The user Aeris_Dies is going around lostpedia and replacing whole pages with'Aeris Dies'. He even did this to my user page that i have now restored.

Asterisking

Hey Santa, thought I'd ask you, don't know who else is around right now. Do you know how to add a real asterisk to a sentance here? Putting * just wikifies it into a bullet point. I would like to asterisk some of the Apollo events that require preregistration. --PandoraX 13:58, 26 August 2006 (PDT)

  • Uh, that was dumb. In writing the above, I just realized that an asterisk only appears as a wikified bullet point if it's at the beginning of a sentance. Nevermind! :) --PandoraX 13:59, 26 August 2006 (PDT)
  • Thanks, that works fine! --PandoraX 14:13, 26 August 2006 (PDT)

Cultural references

Santa - I saw you commented on a bunch of my deletion tags. Go to the forums (http://forum.lostpedia.com/showthread.php?t=173) to see (& comment on) the rationale & proposal I posted to understand why I tagged those for deletion... Thanks! --Jajasoon 15:41, 26 August 2006 (PDT)

  • Thanks, I am honored. I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you.--CaptainInsano 17:20, 26 August 2006 (PDT)

Aid

Hey are you on now? Could use some assistance if possible. I'm trying to sort my userpage and have the infobox in the middle and pics running across the top and then down the sides. Cept I can't make the first three go on the same line, and can't split up each sort of row without using breaks. If you get me well done! Could you help me at all? --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:00, 28 August 2006 (PDT)

yeah thats useful but I don't understand how to use them lol --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:05, 28 August 2006 (PDT)
K I'm getting it now, but tried to split up the userbox for effect and the second part has for some reason indented itself. Can you see why this is please? --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:58, 28 August 2006 (PDT)

Help with <Pre> tag?

Hey Santa, not sure who else is online to answer this question, could use some help. Whenever I do the pre tag, not sure how to make it so that the margins end where the page ends, it always goes to the end of the line. See The Hunt page for an example of what I need to fix. Thanks! --PandoraX 17:38, 30 August 2006 (PDT)

Hey, I think I figured it out! It wasn't in the wiki guide (though thanks for the link), but was just playing around with it... found that if you indent all your sentences by one space, it will automatically format like pre quotes, without tags. Take care. --PandoraX 17:55, 30 August 2006 (PDT)

YouTube

No problem, glad I could help, seemed like quite a project (and there will still be more found still, they pop up everywhere). Oh, and on the above Pre tag thing, sorry, you're right it was in the wiki article you linked.. I think sometimes I am impatient reading the instruction manual and learn faster by doing... LOL. Take care, --PandoraX 16:13, 31 August 2006 (PDT)

Filming Locations Question

Wanted to say good job with your Filming locations page, I nominated it for AOTW, nice research. Are you located in Hawaii? I lived there for a short while, and am homesick for the islands still. My question... do you have any idea where these scenes are filmed? [1], [2] I would like to say Hanama Bay, but I'm not sure. It's a recurrent location in Lost, I think it was shot in both Collision or The Other 48 Days and also in Live Together, Die Alone (where Desmond kills Kelvin, and also where the Elizabeth is kept), and I'm thinking of making a location page for it. --PandoraX 12:06, 1 September 2006 (PDT)

Kate's Bike

  • Their the bikers we probably want to go with them.--CaptainInsano 14:42, 2 September 2006 (PDT)

Taurus

  • I am pretty sure it is a Taurus, but it isn't a 2000-present one. I will try to find the year by the rims on.--CaptainInsano 06:36, 4 September 2006 (PDT)
  • Never mind, it is a 1993-1997 Nissan Altima.--CaptainInsano 06:48, 4 September 2006 (PDT)

Gabriela Busoni

  • Crap that is a hard one. You don't see many antenas like that. We can eliminate Mini Cooper, because it sits to high up. I'll try but I don't if I can find this one. Looking at the picture I can't tell where the antenna is, can you clairify?--CaptainInsano 13:13, 4 September 2006 (PDT)
Okay hopefully; I couldn't find a SUV made during the time of the filming and had that kind of antenna.--CaptainInsano 05:39, 5 September 2006 (PDT)
Lexus IS (1998-2005) is the top candiate. My only the problem with it is that it is a tuner. I would thought it would be more luxurious. I don't tell me what you think?--CaptainInsano 12:11, 7 September 2006 (PDT)
Toyota Corolla 100% sure.--CaptainInsano 15:19, 8 September 2006 (PDT)

Editing Articles

In answer to your question about why I haven't edited any articles, just my userpage, is because, even though I joined about a month ago I just created my userpage about four days ago. I am in the process of getting comfortable with the wiki formatting and I'm doing that by experiementing with my userpage. I intend on making contributions to Lostpedia I just need a little time to get up to speed. Right now I though I could help by giving information for the automobiles article. I didn't want to just jump right in and start making edits before I knew what I was doing. Make sense?--scocub

  • I understand completely. I don't want anyone to think I'm here to just promote myself ;) I just bought the 2nd Season DVD today so I'm hoping to add as well as edit with more juicey details from the DVD extras.--scocub

userpage glitch

Add this under your Lostaway template to fix your overlap problem:

<br clear="both" />

--   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 11:45, 6 September 2006 (PDT)

I think it was happening due to your combination of the userboxes with the lostaway template. Also, if you put the Lostaway template above the userboxtop section then you won't have nested boxes.

"List of Videos available on YouTube" - 7th September edits

Hey Santa, Great work on the videos, put please use the preview button. I've come online to do some SysOp work, and I've got hundreds of edits to the YouTube article on the screen, making it a little difficult to see what changes have been made across the site! Ta! :-) --plkrtn 01:45, 7 September 2006 (PDT)

LostpediaKing

I've banned him due to his inappropriate username. He can freely create a new account thats more fitting, but I wasn't impressed that he copied GEOH's page and then Aero's (I think it was his?). Anyway that and using the medal counted in my book for a warning at any rate. I know his IP so when he makes the new account, I'll keep an eye on him. Cheers, --Nickb123 (Talk) 03:14, 17 September 2006 (PDT)

Stubs

I was going through some of the stubs and was wondering what the criteria for changing an articles stub status. I know some articles are short but they maybe as fleshed out as possible which would lead me to believe that they are not stubs. Here is an example Ethan's Canteen, I don't know how much more you can write on that subject. I didn't want to just abritrarily de-stub an article without knowing what the proper procedure is. I want to help work down that stub list--scocub

  • thanks for the help on this.--scocub

Sunset

  • With the Sunset on the Beach thing what is going to be the deal. Are we going allow the adding of info before the 4th or respect the producer's wishes and not allow people to post it? I am leaning towards the not allowing. We want the cast and crew to be happy with Lostpedia and respecting them might be good for the community. What do you think?--CaptainInsano 16:10, 24 September 2006 (PDT)

Sunset on the Beach photos

Hey Santa. Where did you get the Sunset on the Beach photos? Are they yours? and if so what permissions do you give to the photos? Are they only to be used on Lostpedia, or are they in the public domain for anyone to use freely? -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  03:06, 3 October 2006 (PDT)

Its up to you how you license them. Personally, if I were you I'd take a look at Creative Commons licensing, as it allows people to share and alter them... and then decide which one you'd like to use.

This is the website you'll need. Choose the various options, let me know which license you end up with, and then I'll get the licensing template created and applied to your images. The reasoning is We've had a user or two complaining about our licensing against our images, so I'm just trying to make sure we're covered as best as possible! On your Others "redshirts"

I think it's possible that could be Luke, though he seems a little different, just can't tell; either way, insignificant. On the black lady, she does look similar, though it begs the question why she should be a friend in a book club one moment, and then a slave at the rock quarry the next. PS: I just saw, I definitely have enough points for a free trip to Hawaii ;) But it's just a matter of everything else in my life now... --PandoraX 13:37, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

Regarding the black lady, I think you're overcomplicating, she's probably just an extra who is categorised under "Other" by the producers so they know they can only use her for that kind of role. Likewise, they probably put the socks as "backgrounds" and just use people from that group whenever they're doing a beach shot --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:42, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

Well I guess you could add to Template:Lost Experience along the near top banner, so it will then be "Clues, Characters, Revelations, Calendar" and you then either link calendar to the main LE article, or you could create a new page specifically just as a calendar (which would be pretty easy as you'd just need to add the e.g. {{LEcluesJuly}} templates etc. Gimme a shout if you wanna discuss it with me further --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:17, 23 October 2006 (PDT)

  1. I remember no-one provided glyphs from the magazines during TLE - I just assumed they weren't listed as actual glyphs (some weren't, just listed as codes instead). As for the other one, it was given over the Comic Con audio, but there should be an audio glyph image somewhere (I think Dt7 uploaded it, so maybe ask him?)

Missing ATOW

Hello, I do not if yu can help me with that, but I htought you might be connected to running the ATOW project..where I have added the following in its Talk page :

Did you notice that no Article was selected to feature during this week; week 44 (Oct 30 - Nov 5) -2006 ? When I checked the Project page today, I have noticed two nominated articles with no votes at all. Consequently, the ATOW section in the Main Page is currently empty, which looks rather strange, as if it is a section that is still under construction...I do not know if it is acceptable to have a missing ATOW, but I generally believe that we should come up with a corrective action to prevent such an event from repeating in the future.

Thanks -- 06:56, 30 October 2006 (PST)

Re:Radio Harvest

Need your openion

Hi Santa. As you know I've been rewriting Sayid's page for a while now, and I would like to wrap it up well, now that I'm moving on to other pages and only return to add new events. Recently, I felt that some details are mentioned on Sayid's skills, displayed on The Island, yet many are missing, so I added a new Skills section, in which I added all the data in bullets. But now I feel the page is getting too large. I have also changed today the Name section, from bullets to paragraphs, yet I still feel too much bullets are around and the page look a little hard for the reading eye. So I wanted your openion on what's best to do:

-Keep the section as is, in bullets ?
-Change the section to paragraphs ?
-Delete the section, and spread its details within the On the Island sections?
Though I feel that this is not very adequate, since then I would be like enforcing details about his skills in the narrative part, which I feel akward about it.
-Create a new page, naming it: "Sayid's Skills", much like Jackface, and link to it ?
I actully like this option, yet don't want to create a duplicate page for no reason.

I appreciate your openion as well on the current quality of the whole article.

Thanks-- 09:13, 31 October 2006 (PST)

Disambig pages

Hi Santa. I've been working hard to standardize the Lostpedia disambiguation pages according to the evolved, consensus standards arrived at by Wikipedia. Doing so now will save a lot of growing pains in the future. I have authored the section on disambig pages on the proposed Manual of Style and I hope you will give it a look.

  • I noticed you restored the disambig tag to BMW. Apparently you did not notice that there had already been discussion on this subject and that the disambig tag had been intentionally removed. I see that your reasoning was to try to synchronize the article's appearance to that of the Mercedes-Benz article. Taking a look at that article, it also does not qualify as a disambiguation page.
  • The Henry Gale disambiguation page requires cleanup to conform it to MoS, but it is locked. If you have the capability to unlock it, would you do so? Thanks.

All the best, Robert K S 03:59, 6 November 2006 (PST)

A Ha... so you are the vandal! :)

  • Hey Santa, I've been going through some histories of problematic pages, and realized that some of the edits were by you... though inadvertant, I'm sure :) The "Ray Mullen" letter was never part of TLE, and is a known hoax. Not sure where it started online, but I'll try to find the stuff refuting it? Do you remember the website, because I'm forgetting where it is? --PandoraX 16:43, 6 November 2006 (PST)

PS: Just saw your q in Portal: Transcripts... hope it didn't seem like I was ignoring your q, but I addressed it, yeah, we could do that someday if it'll help with searching. --PandoraX 18:26, 6 November 2006 (PST)

Aw, well you take care of your other pressing things in life first, seems like most of the sysops are pretty active nowadays, so a few of us can take breaks without guilt. :) On another note, when you *do* get a chance, just wanted to make sure you are aware of the discussion we are having in here: Lostpedia talk:Theory policy. I didn't want you to overlook this conversation, because if something gets implemented, it would change a lot of things around Lostpedia. So far, Admin and others have been pretty supportive, but just wanted to make sure all the active sysops were in the loop on the conversation, even if they disagree, and to put their 2 cents in. --PandoraX 04:49, 7 November 2006 (PST)

Today's Rec News Item

I don't normally lobby for a particular news item to be featured but I thought the item I just recommended from MSNBC might be a good one for the front page today since it relates to tonight's mini-season finale. What do you think? --scocub

Sorry About That

When I originally followed the link to that Nov 9th story about Ben, it didn't prompt me for a password. I'm not registered with the site and I was initally able to read the whole article. It was kind of weird when I clicked on it this time and it asked me to log in. I've been pretty good about recommending news sites that don't require registration and it is a shame because it was a pretty good article on Michael Emerson. Oh well, I'm sure they'll be plenty of more good articles coming out, especially as we get close to Feb 7th. Oh, by the way, Matthew Fox is going to be on SNL Dec 2nd. That will probably be the only reason to watch SNL. I've given up on SNL this season. I hope they do a funny Lost parody. --scocub

Bole pie with Spielberg

Actually, when I said he was a composite of Spielberg/Lucas, it was just a total guess based on appearance. You'll have to ask the person who added it to the page or Paul (plk), he told me on chat it was confirmed, or something. I'm not sure what the source was, I was just gloating that I got it right... hehe. --PandoraX 03:49, 21 November 2006 (PST)

Come back in chat, babe! :) --PandoraX 18:04, 22 November 2006 (PST)
Ah well, now you guys are nowhere to be found :P Either way, no biggie, but here's what I wanted to discuss, I just put it on the talk page: Category talk: Fan-Created --PandoraX 18:40, 22 November 2006 (PST)

Front Page

Hey Santa, hope your set scouting went good (you'll have to show me the photos later). Just a quick message, when doing latest news can you protect the images you use. As they appear on the front page they are prime vandal targets, and its the first thing a potential longterm contributor/reader would see --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:33, 25 November 2006 (PST)

Jon Dixon

Santa, I believe Flight Attendant #2 and JD are the same character (That is, TPTB decided to give the character a name later in the season) - so a new page (& multicharacter infobox for his page) is not needed, just perhaps a redirect from a Flight Attendant #2 page to JD. I'll leave it up to you to fix :-)--Kivipat10:25, 25 November 2006 (PST)

  • Sup man, Richard has been active tonight so keep your eye out.--CaptainInsano 19:28, 26 November 2006 (PST)

Thanks

Thanks for your comment about the conversation between Plkrtn and me, I agree. We both have different viewpoints towards Lostpedia, which resulted in our dispute. It is, as you say, an "absolutely fruitless" exercise, and one that is not easily settled. --SilvaStorm

Indeed. Your points were well made. -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  03:32, 27 November 2006 (PST)

YouTube

Well I spotted that Wikia had installed the plugin, and I'd asked for it about 6 weeks or so ago, plus the ABC wiki already had this functionality, so I thought I'd push Admin to install it sharpish as it was a quick install. 90 minutes later we were there. If only the List of videos didn't take 6 hours to rejig. The Captain did one of the big ones, so I managed to get to bed before 2am! The great thing is too, YouTube are the video hosts, so are responsible for copyright infringements/removing the videos. -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  03:32, 27 November 2006 (PST)

Youtube bugs

  • Hey Santa, could you check out the following Youtube subpages and see what's up with them? Just the code for them are showing up, and not the vids, so it looks like this: <youtube>pfRTLm8p3CY</youtube>. It may just be something with my comp acting up, but the rest look fine. But anyway, here's the ones that are acting up (at least for me): Episode clips, Promos CGI Recreations, Fanon, and Fanmade parody. I don't know what is up with it. --Marik7772003 12:57, 3 December 2006 (PST)

Hey Santa, congrats you get the Article Attack this week for the ABC article. Feel free to move this to your userpage:

Media Appearence

Santa, I know you were working on the current news section of the main page are you doing the media appearences too? If so I wanted to give you a heads up that on Friday Dec 8th Matthew Fox will be on the NFL Total Access which airs on the NFL network 7pm EST. little comment

Hi Santa, I was just viewing your great page today, when I noticed something. I think in your AA award, the article added is Lostpedia:Talk, while I think it should have been ABC ? Just thought I might help with the comment :) Regards-- 22:59, 9 December 2006 (PST)

Re: Vandalism comment

Santa, I have read that before and I just wanted to see what the vandal's motives were, nothing else. I know you shouldn't retailiate, but it's not like I was getting angry at him, causing him to "target" me. --SilvaStorm

Duly noted. :) --SilvaStorm

Hey

Can you check your email please? Thanks... (or come in chat?) --PandoraX 18:57, 11 December 2006 (PST)

Videos

Hi, on certain pages, I've noticed people have been embedding YouTube videos at the top of pages. An example is Sex. I think it would be better if the videos were at the bottom of the page rather than at the top. What do you think? --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  00:35, 12 December 2006 (PST)

How come...

How come you moved ? back to ? (episode) and made ? a disambig. page again? I thought it was good the way you had it. --SilvaStorm

No problem! As you would've seen, I started that discussion, which didn't exactly go my way...oh well, good luck with your input tomorrow! :) --SilvaStorm

Re: crew

Hey again, Santa. I have screencapped a load of pictures from the S2 DVD which I am now uploading and adding to their correct pages! As you may already know, I have done this for Stephen Williams (is he Jamaican or something?!), Roland Sanchez, Jim Van Houten and Robert Montjoy so far. --SilvaStorm

Yep, no problem. I've been having a conversation with him via email recently, and he's told me all about how he made LR 1 and 2. --SilvaStorm

Formatting of episode titles

Hi Santa, I see on the MoS talk you've proposed a sea change in the way episode titles are formatted, singling me out as the driving force behind the quotation marks standard. It's true that I see episode-titles-go-in-quotation-marks standard as conforming, not to Wikipedia per se, but rather to established rules of English style (major works go in italics, minor works go in quotes). It's also true that I was the author of that portion of the MoS and that fixing this issue has constituted the majority of my effort on Lostpedia. I think I see your two points: that having the episode titles themselves wikilinked but the quotations that surround them unlinked is aesthetically lacking, and that in the context of Lostpedia, episode titles should be considered major works. While I disagree with both these points--I think neither of them is sufficient to overrule the prescriptions of English style--I do understand your perspective on them and am glad you are working to achieve consensus through the MoS talk page rather than just going and changing them all wherever you see them, which would be kind of chaotic. If we both understand each other's points and still disagree, what is your recommendation for achieving consensus? I've always been a little foggy on this process! Cheers, Robert K S 06:33, 13 December 2006 (PST)

Right--I don't see it as a personal issue at all, either, and didn't mind you singling me out. And I'm happy to go with whatever the consensus decides. But, as you say, on this issue my vote goes with the "Strunk & White" convention. Cheers! Robert K S 18:04, 13 December 2006 (PST) PS hope you don't mind I'm moving your message from my user page to my talk page.
Re: Your list of pages posted to the MoS talk. I had never seen these pages before. To me, this reads like a to-do list of pages that should be conformed to the standard. :) I'll hold off working on such a herculean task until others are on board, though. SysOp Insano seems especially opposed to the idea of an MoS governing how pages are formatted on Lostpedia. I hope to soften him up by giving him a can of WhoopAss for Christmas. Religions structure & voting issues

Hi Santa, I know you've been busy lately by fighting back the recent vandal attacks, but I wanted to remind you that you haven't replied yet with your openion on the summeries of new proposed strucutre for Religions page, which I made from our discussion. I am also looking forward to know what you think of the voting issue I added. So, waiting for your replies. Thanks-- 17:32, 13 December 2006 (PST)

  • First, please allow my to strongly apologize for an uncalled for mistake from my side, by citing wikipedia's AGF in our discussion, which I just discovered minutes ago from the AAGF article! I have to thank you also for your patience and not commenting on my mistake, which you had every right to. Please refer to my post for further details on that. I'm greatly embarrassed by this action, and I hope you accept my strong apologies.
Replying to your message, I understand and respect your choice to wait for more discussion, not to force any hasty decision, and I agree to do the same.
Regarding my other questions on voting, Polls and means to reach consensus, as you can see I am yet learning from the experiences of wikipedia, documented in its guidelines, and I would greatly appreciate it if you can guide me in that field, of course if you have the time. I would like also to know what similar policies are carried here, and the reasoning behind it. In the light of our discussion, and my recent readings, I have started to notice the term consensus repeatedly present around Lospedia discussions as well, which I may not have noticed before. I am starting to get an idea about the tricky use of polls, and its pros/cons. Polls seem to serve here in a number of uses, but with the aim of reaching consensus rather than a majority of votes. However, I still do not know where does it start and end, meaning when to use it or not, and will greatly appreciate your help on that, if possible. Thanks-- 22:20, 13 December 2006 (PST)

  • I am very disappointed and highly disturbed by the post you have left at my talk page, replying to my clear apologies to "you", above, and at the religions talk page as well, which you have simply ignored and claimed to be a mini-argument with myself!
Moreover, you deliberately ignored again, my clear as day light separate requests to you, as a Sysop, to help me with learning about consensus-related guidelines in Lostpedia!
Instead, you continue to charge false claims and accusations, such as of essay-length replies I have left at your talk, which is never true, not even for this post or the one above it, which are both clearly shorter than the reply you have left me!!
I could easily go on, refuting similarly the other false claims you made at my page, and on other pages, but learning from my lessons, I refuse to be dragged again into a seemingly constructive discussion, which you soon divert into a serious of accusations from your side, starting with my perception of your comments as a personal issue. An approach, which based on other posts at your talk, you seem to be using frequently, as soon as other editors issue disagreeing opinions to yours on any work they might have contributed in.
I will continue to respect your authority as a Sysop and an editor, because this is what's right, but I will also practice my absolute right in refusing to contribute to such levels of discussion. Thus, I highly recommend that we refrain from direct contact over our user talk pages from the time being, and stick to actual constructive discussions over other pages.
Regards-- 11:31, 14 December 2006 (PST)

  • I refuse to even attempt to refute your false claims of my assumption of ownership of that article. Please stop posting repeated and heated comments at my page. As I said, I highly recommend to stop contacting each other directly at the moment. For the reference, I also recommend you to read Lostpedia:General_usage_guide#Be_nice another time.-- 13:20, 14 December 2006 (PST)

Hey, I'd like to request that the Season 2 article be unlocked, so that I can make it be formatted in a similar way to the Season 1 article (ie with guest stars listed). Thanks a lot, --
