Parody url
- Just wanted to note that there's a new thread in forums re: parody policy. link. I think some of what you said makes sense, although I'm conflicted because I love parodies. Anyways I thought it was worth a good airing out in forums. Hope to hear your opinions in more detail. Cheers. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T04:54, 15 September 2006 (PDT)
Sig
Hey your sig is the latest to be experiencing this new problem we've had since the system update. It leaves the full formula when you sign even though you've clicked "raw signatures". You just need to create a new subpage, User:Plkrtn/autosig and put in . Then, on "preferences", put your nickname as . That should fix it all :-) --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:16, 15 September 2006 (PDT)
SPAM
- What do have against redirecting spam pages to spam. If we put the delete template on pages (even the pages that don't belong on this site), it takes you sysops a long time to delete it. Redirecting to spam is a whole lot quicker and reduces the amount of arguements (since apparently you guys have something against arguements). So what are your reasons for not wanting people to redirect to the spam page?--CaptainInsano 18:20, 2 October 2006 (PDT)
- It's pretty easy to see the list of all pages directed to spam, is there a way to see all pages with delete (or using any other template)? --Minderbinder 05:10, 3 October 2006 (PDT)

sunset and other pics
- Hi Plkrtn. All the photos in that article are mine, all 10. I haven't really thought about ownership issues. None are really good enough to "own", I've kept the better ones I took at these events for myself. What do you suggest? -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T04:18, 3 October 2006 (PDT)
- I second the "who hit who in the what now?", they're just my pics I took when I was there, just uploaded them for everyone's benefit. They're my pics, I didn't think about their licensing - open to all? --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:24, 3 October 2006 (PDT)
- I'd like to choose what you originally mentioned, that they are "...only to be used on Lostpedia". Also, I would like to echo Nick that although clarifying the licenses for all images is a good long term goal to have, the more pressing need is to identify images that have been taken from sources other than the editors, e.g. from ABC, from other fansites, or other fans. For now I'd almost suggest that we have a template marking it as a self-made photo of the editor who uploaded it, and that the photo is to be limited to Lostpedia only. In other words, just leave these 'private' images be for now, since they have been identified as having been "cleared" from questionable use, and move on to the more pressing need of clarifying the use/ownership/rights of the images that may questionable.-- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T04:46, 3 October 2006 (PDT)
more on parodies
- Do you have moderator privs in forums? If so, would you consider moving the Parody Debate thread from the main forum to the Suggestions subforum? I fear it will simply get lost in the frenzy of new S3 threads of the main forum. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T04:52, 3 October 2006 (PDT)

Hey, I made a few more edits to the main page. The Index section had some bad code (one nested table was never closed with a |}) and there was a loner </div> in at the bottom. The page looks the same, but the code has been cleaned up. -- Jabberwock talk contribs email - 20:32, 3 October 2006 (PDT)
Warning
Yesterday you told me I was warned not to put up anything spoilerish, and that you would ban me if I did it again. First of all, I was never notified that I shouldn't have made the page! No new messages or anything. And secondly, I looked back after I created the page and saw it was not there, so I just assumed I had quit the site too early or something, which why it didn't show up. That's why I made it again! Sorry for the misunderstanding. Peace! --SilvaStorm

Comparing IP's
Hey mate, would you mind checking the IP on User:Dothedew and comparing it to MatthewFenton (Iron Chef) or 9lukeb? He left a message on Capt. Insano's page saying "You'll never guess who this is" and since hes been having arguments w/ both of them, it might be one of them. --Marik7772003 18:13, 5 October 2006 (PDT)

It seems I will have the final word today
Okay, i think you know WHO this is. It's Iron Chef, Revenge Seeker and Dothedew. Listen up, I apologize for insulting you. I also Apologize for flamming other users, racism, ect. But you need to know this, I signed up for Lostpedia hoping to become a respected member, then I created a dumb parody article that was somewhat of an iside joke. I was having a really bad day (my dog just died) and I got pissed off when everyone tried to delete MY article when the "Pink Bunny" article could stay. I apologize for that aswell. But listen, I am NOT Mathhew Fenton. I AM IRON CHEF, on both Wikipedia and Lostpedia. MATTHEW FENTON is actually a respected member of Wikipedia, who HAS NOT VANDALIZED, NEITHER HAVE I. I have never vandalized a wiki. I know that Fenton was probaly banned for something serious, but dont label me AS him. It's not only insulting, its gossip that has no place in a Wiki. The only reason I created "Revenge Seeker" was to apologize to Captain Insano, You, and others who I insulted, I also created that account to start off with a clean slate. But I was banned before I knew it. I then created "Dothedew" to do the same thing. But, guess what... Got banned. I do not mind me getting banned, its only fair. But I would like to stop this thinking that I am Mathew Fenten. IM NOT! Once again I apologize for my actions, all the best --Onelastword 10:33, 8 October 2006 (PDT) , or as you might know me --Iron Chef

Re: Recreating Deleted Pages
I didn't even know why it was deleted in the first place! --SilvaStorm
- In that case, could you please tell me why my Protestant Reformation page was deleted? --SilvaStorm
- It was nominated for deletion, and all the vote (except yours) voted in favor of deletion on the grounds that it wasn't significant to merit its own page, and that the info could just be on the appropriate character page. --Minderbinder 06:37, 10 October 2006 (PDT)

Sorry
I had no intention of spoiling future episodes with that TV Guide post, I should've deleted it when I put in in the prespoilers section, but honestly forgot. Thank you for erasing it though and I hope you can still enjoy Season 3 after that incident. Again, my deepest apologies.--MightyRearranger 11:14, 9 October 2006 (PDT)
Bravo
Thanks for finally recognizing the common thread among all the ugliness going on here. It's tiring to see sysops constantly apologizing for CI because he occasionally contributes something of value (although he tends toward quantity over quality.) How you do things is just as important as what you do. An occasional ban will be applauded by many here. --Mramsey 04:25, 11 October 2006 (PDT)
- I have to second this feeling. I am a regular visitor to Lostpedia; however I have created an anonymous screen name for this post so I will not get into some type of flame war with CI. I have made some edits and even created one of the recent lengthy articles and I would contribute more but I am discouraged by the way CI chooses to deal with people. I understand the nature of a wiki and that any article you create or add to could be deemed "delete worthy" but who wants to spend time creating an article and then not only have it deleted but be insulted. I would not argue that CI has made some significant contributions like the Automobile page but he also makes a lot of crap edits like changing punctuation. Also, look at the lostpedia forum; he contributes nothing to that except to ridicule people. You can tell by looking at the recent posts he just goes down the line and makes one smart ass comment after another. I think I have seen only one post out of hundreds that wasn't insulting in some way. His use of profanity on Lostpedia is a bit excessive as well. If he continues, you will have more users looking at the User Talk pages then the page that actually pertain to Lost. It is getting to the point that CI actions could be a detriment to the site. I know there are many people on this site who feel the same way as I do. I love Lostpedia but who wants to deal with a bully. --DocZero 06:42, 11 October 2006 (PDT)
Question About Banned User Pages
Do you think we should create a template that informs other users that a certain user is banned? Like, put it on the banned persons user page, along with information as to when it expires, and what he was banned for. Just an idea... Thought it might be helpful. --Ironman 10:04, 11 October 2006 (PDT)
Info about people getting banned is here: Special:Log/block. Usually a reason is listed. --Minderbinder 12:04, 11 October 2006 (PDT)
Hmmm, okay. Thanks. --Ironman 15:32, 11 October 2006 (PDT)
The Reasons
- A reason is because people don't know the difference between speculation and theory. So when I delete their speculation, they come yelling at me; so I yell back. I am just a lot better at it than they are. Another is when people point blank copy off my userpage I get pissed, I'm not going to lie. I am fine as long as they modify it. Another reason is vandalism when it is minor vandalism Nick has started to make give warnings, and I have been. Major vandalism (Lostdude815, Bob), the reason I say stuff to them is to slow them down, make it easier on you sysops, because frankly you guys are to few in number. Anything else you want to address me about?--CaptainInsano 11:42, 11 October 2006 (PDT)
A new template
Me and Paladine have been working on this template. What do you think? --IronMan 12:02, 12 October 2006 (PDT)
Cap
Haha.. that's too funny, I don't know *why* I thought he was a sysop, when I've seen that list a bunch of times. I guess because his red & blue name is ubiquitous on this site. I kept thinking he gets away with a lot of the stuff he does with newbies *because* he's a sysop, but I guess not. Either way, I have no issues with him or any of his contenders, but that was amusing. :) --PandoraX 15:56, 12 October 2006 (PDT)
sorry, wnt happn agin--Lostgirl15 15:57, 12 October 2006 (PDT)
- I repect your judgement and understanding, even though I have to disagree with you on somethings. But I... well.. I guess... I will tone it down. PS: just for the record I have never cursed anyone out for using something on my userpage. I have something else though, this Fan99 guy basically everytime I'm mentioned on any page he addes a negative remark about me can you ask him to stop?--CaptainInsano 16:17, 12 October 2006 (PDT)
Captain Insano
Your right when I was making that vandal template I had to put lostdude815 on my list. So I did history on his talk page and he seemed that Captain Insano encourage him allot more to delete lostpedia. So Captain Insano could make another user mad and he could make another Bob or lostdude815 thats another reason I think he should get banned.--Fan99 11:28, 16 October 2006 (PDT)
- Of course the irony of this comment is that lostdude815 was a pseydonm for the user Fan99, along with several other sockpuppet accounts he was using (Lostgirl15 being a great example) so he could get them abused by Capt, and therefore booted off the site. This course of action by Fan99 led to his own banning because of his own bad faith. LOL. -- Plkrtn talk contribs email 01:13, 17 October 2006 (PDT)

Re: Requirements
You said:
When its decided there is a need for another SysOp, the other SysOps nominate names that they think would suit the role, and then Admin takes a look and decides out of the picks a suitable candidate. Though to be honest, with the amount of time you've gone completely against what SysOps have asked you, I really cannot see it happening for you. --plkrtn (my talk · my contribs · email me) 08:51, 15 October 2006 (PDT)

Wiki reply
- I didn't know he was on that wiki! Anyways, I would insert the specific URLs to all of the relevant talk pages that nicely illustrate the tone of the debate, as well as the inconsistencies you are attempting to cite. There are about 3 or 4 such talk pages. Perhaps also include a link to your userpage here. Introductory text or summary text that glosses over the "bottom line" in 3-5 sentences would also be a suggestion. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T05:27, 18 October 2006 (PDT)
- Nice response, I'll be curious to see what if anything he responds with. If he agrees with the wiki guys that Lostpedia shouldn't be linked, I'd recommend asking him what specifically would need to be "fixed" with LP for it to be linked - the current reasons wiki gives just seem like vague "LP sucks" type comments (that in many cases would also to apply to wikipedia itself). I don't think it's crucial that LP get its own page on wikipedia, just a link on one of the Lost pages would be sufficient (although there do seem to be some fan wikis that get their own page). Keep us informed how this goes, thanks. --Minderbinder 07:02, 18 October 2006 (PDT)
- The thing is, to me its an issue of keeping up standards and applying them fairly across all wikis. We won't give up our theories, which is what some on Wikipedia want us to do. Theories are the life blood of this site, and the thing that makes us one of the most popular tv show fan wikis on the web! We're far more popular than Memory Alpha for example. -- Plkrtn talk contribs email 07:05, 18 October 2006 (PDT)
- I completely agree - I definitely think the accusations against LP are completely exaggerated, but I still think we can try harder to keep the standards of this site high. I think the theories are a great part of the site, but we need to be consistently vigilant about keeping them clearly separate from the facts on each article. We also need to enforce the theory/spec policy, there are still many pages overflowing with crackpot spec that has no evidence to support it. I have some specific ideas, I'll hopefully write up some proposals/examples (on my user page) to get some discussion started. --Minderbinder 07:23, 18 October 2006 (PDT)

Galleries / Fair Use
I notice that you've removed the galleries on several pages, and replaced them with the legend "The creation of galleries is against fair use as described in United States Copyright law. Please do not recreate this gallery."
Which of the four tests do these galleries fail? Can you explain the difference between a gallery of pictures of Kate (for example) and the pictures on your user page, in terms of copyright law?
- In the terms of copyright law and fair use, we can use small thumbnail web resolution images as long as they are to illustrate a point. Putting the images in galleries, for any use except categorisation purposes (so for example, a collection of images of certain characters at the bottom of their pages, without any article content nearby making that image relevant) is against the principals of fair use. The difference between my images on my user page and the main sites content, is that i haven't got around to reorganising my user page yet. -- Plkrtn talk contribs email 07:51, 18 October 2006 (PDT)

Lostpedia, Wikipedia, and Lost.wikia.com
- Wow, well, I looked into it, and read in particular the entire debate at that last url you sent me. What a mess. As you may know, I try not to personally get involved much in detailed content disputes, and in this case, I really don't know enough about tv show linking policies as they are put into practice to know for sure about that. At the same time, I do think that Lostpedia should be listed there, and that in general Wikipedia should do a lot more linking to community-built resources.
Anyway, in the meantime, I think we should work together at lost.wikia and lostpedia because of the issue of the new "official" wiki which is going to potentially confuse a lot of new users. I think users there need to understand that the ABC terms of service mean that everything people do there belongs to ABC, unlike our two sites, where the licensing terms mean that the community can leave if the host is not a good host. People writing at the official site have no right to take their own work elsewhere later on. :(

Re:Gallery Issues
- Example on 1st Issue:
a.Check out the OceanicPassenger Character Infobox of Jack, you'll find the 5th item labeled "Images", with a link labeled "Category", which links to the Gallery page of Jack constructed using the template: Screenshots of LOST.
b. Now, check out the MainIsland Character Infobox of Desmond, where you will find the 5th info item here labeled "Gallery", and the corresponding link labeled "Here", linking into a Gallery page that is also constructed using the template: Screenshots of LOST.
My question is, for consistency, shouldn't the labeling be unified in all pages?
- Example on 2nd Issue:
Check out Sayid's gallery, "Category:Images_of_Sayid_Jarrah", You will find many images out of timeline order, example images of Sayid with Nadia and Inman, after images of him on the Island..Unfortunately, I currently can't edit that if I want to rearrange them in correct timed order...this among other issues.

I am guessing you have noticed that there is, quite literally, a growing problem with theories, most notably on the articles for the last three episodes. The Further Instructions theories section is longer than the episode main article. I know I, as well as others have attempted to keep this theory sections free of wild speculation but it is getting hard to keep up. I wanted to suggest a possible solution for this problem. Perhaps a subpage could be made for theories, similar to the prespoiler pages for unaired episodes. This would help keep the articles tight and streamlined. All episode articles as well as the character pages would benefit from this layout. Also, I would further suggest that the Theory policy banner include a link to the forum. I feel that is a more appropriate place to discuss speculation instead of the article discussion page or maybe we could link to both. I would be glad to make the edits to the layout myself but I wanted to see what kind of consensus we can get for this idea. I will post this suggestion in the Lostpedia Suggestions forum as well, to see I if we can gain any buy in for this idea. --scocub
Next Week...
I have a few ideas about doing something Community Portal related, in which we can link to everything we've planned (OGD) as well as things like the Job List, as well as my latest adventure, the Triple A (I'll explain it later). Basically, can we work on designs next week in keeping with what you did for the front page? Hopefully by the end of next week we could have a Comm. Portal in the navbar linking to everything, which would be great. As I say, next week... but it should be good. Speak to you soon, --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:41, 27 October 2006 (PDT)
Gallery Pages Issue
Given the great effort you have done so far, creating the GalleryFairUse template and cleaning up the erroneous Gallery section in character articles, for Fair Use violation, I think I should have directed my note posted here to you in the first place.
I know we discussed a certain aspect of this problem before, but I was looking to contribute in a complete solution, if possible. Of course i'm quite new to the portal, only a few months now, so maybe I am missing a lot on the origin of this issue and how you have decided to handle it on Lostpedia. Please let me know if my posted observations, accessed from the link, are correct..or not. In case they are indeed correct, I offer my help to work on a solution with as you, if you would like, to handle this as soon as possible..So far I have started to add the Delete template to some of images that are not linked anywhere, but don't know what to do next :)

Criticism of a SysOp
Aside from the possibility that you're attempting to bait me so you have some shred of justification should you choose to put yourself in the position to have to explain to the other SysOps why you've banned me, I can't possibly think of another reason why you would try to bring in such unrelated and inflammatory nonsense into this argument. I'll ignore your nonsense and hopefully avoid such a foolish banishment. If you want to talk about all of that unrelated stuff some other time, that's fine, but none of it (especially acquisitions made by my employer) are really germane to this argument.
So here's my point: There's no arguing that you've done a great deal of work around here. This site is a better place because you're here. At the same time, you and every other person here started contributing to this Wiki freely and without any anticipation that even a portion of their body of work would receive any form of recognition. As a SysOp, taking attribution on the front page sends a message to everyone that it's okay to follow in your footsteps and take credit for their work as a matter of personal pride. It's a slippery slope which I don't want to see this site fall prey to. Followed to its likely conclusion, you'll find attribution on every navigation menu and template that took more than a few hours to create. I think it's irresponsible as a SysOp for you to start this trend, and I would sincerely like you to reconsider taking credit for your work. I ask this not because of any shred of jealousy in me but because I believe that it does a disservice to this site, of which I am a proud, contributing member. —XSG 20:19, 2 November 2006 (PST)
- Actually, I realize perfectly well that conversations go on that I am not privy to. Because I believe that good ideas tend to win out on this site, I felt it worth interjecting in case the slippery-slope aspect of credits wasn't considered.
- Your comment about my choice of words rather than my intentions being at fault is true. I'm pretty burnt out on this Wiki due to constantly having to edit in order to make certain that theory sections adhere to the site's theory policy. I designed a small banner for the tops of new theory sections to specifically remind people about this, and when they completely ignored this banner, no more than an inch above where they added their speculations and debate, I got very frustrated and let off steam by negatively drawing attention to the fact that this was being done. I hope that in time you'll forgive me for burning out on this stuff. And... I hope that in time, people will learn to read banners...
- You accuse me of jealousy, however there's not a shred of truth to it. When I objected to someone receiving an award, it was because I felt that the doling out of the award for seemingly trivial things (in comparison to the reasons for which the award was originally given) was diluting the value of the award. I don't believe that the new recipients did anything special to deserve an award, and I don't think I deserve an award. I also have no desire to take credit for the days of work I've sunk into this site. You'll notice that unlike other people, any mention of the pages I've created or spent significant time working are are absent from my own user page, in contrast to other peoples' pages. I can see how you might incorrectly assume that my criticisms are out of jealousy, but no... they're out of a desire to keep up the standards of this site, which I see are slowly slipping...
- You can stop thinking of me as jealous and petulant, now, and start realizing that my suggestions and criticisms come out of a desire to keep LostPedia as one of the best sites on the Internet, especially in the face of so many new users. Just because we disagree or because I've seen a different possible future than you doesn't mean we have to fight about it. I'm counting on you, as a SysOp, to set a good example! —XSG 11:57, 3 November 2006 (PST)
- My two cents, not to get in the way of a "its between you and me" thing, are that firstly yes theory sections are hell and recently I've found myself constantly trying to clean them up, remove the to be blunt god awful crap, and categorise them. Its dire it truly is. Second, I agree that accrediting edits is bad but I don't think the slope is currently that slippery as Xsg would seem to suggest. The only pages I know with credits are the DJ Dan Live Broadcasts, episode transcripts ala Spooky, and the front page. For the transcripts, Spooky kindly let us copy all the work he/she did so we needed to put something. For DJ Dan, it was a huge collaboratively work between editors that took each about 5 hours to accomplish, and a little tag of thanks was necessary (Lostpedia was and still is the only site on the web to have transcribed it). Finally, the front page does deserve recognition as much as the main logo does by Placid Asylum. They're part of the main site and so I don't disagree with them having a little tag at the bottom. I can't see credits start overflowing into every article, and its a bit OTT to suggest otherwise. I just don't really care, I couldn't have made a better front page in a million years so fair enough if you wanna stick a sig at the bottom --Nickb123 (Talk) 12:14, 3 November 2006 (PST)
Eyepatch
Hey Plk, hah, I was confused at first, because I didn't recall removing that line, and it looked like it was already there. Then I looked back in history to see what I did:
*** When we first met Desmond on the island during the episode Man of Science, Man of Faith, Desmond also wore a DHARMA jumpsuit.
If you mean that line, I thought it was just redundent to this one:
** This might be supported by the DHARMA logo on the jumpsuit. Since The Others do not usually wear suits with DHARMA logo, as seen in Every Man for Himself and The Cost of Living
It was confusing what it was trying to support because at the time, there was another picture inserted in between that was interfering with formating, so I thought it was just a random line floating around (not one about the button pushing thing). I think I understand now... but still probably could be added to the phrase that's already there rather than have its own bullet, like:
** This might be supported by the DHARMA logo on the jumpsuit (as Desmond wore in Man of Science, Man of Faith), since The Others do not usually wear suits with DHARMA logo, as seen in Every Man for Himself and The Cost of Living
...I think mostly because I've been trying to crack down on length and number of bullet points in the theory sections, they're getting really bad lately. To be honest, just a short line about "He's wearing a DHARMA jumpsuit (which the Others don't typically wear)" would have brought the point home for me, since Kelvin and Desmond are already mentioned in the main bullet.
LOL, anyway, hope that explains, sorry if it was confusing what I was trying to do.

Do you...
Do you think I like you very much after the incredibly long ban you gave me, and the fact that you're the only admin to do so? --SilvaStorm
Spoiler policy
FYI, I created a proposed spoiler policy, check it out when you have time: Lostpedia:Spoiler Policy (proposed). Is there somewhere to post about things like this to make people aware and request comment on it? --Minderbinder 10:11, 5 November 2006 (PST)
Re: I don't care if you don't like me
So why is the Not in Portland page still in existence? There haven't been any official sources on that, either. --SilvaStorm
- Good job. ;) --SilvaStorm
MYOB!
I've kept out of your business so now I'm asking you to keep out of mine. I never knew that the issue was over, and wanted to add something more. I can tell you've got a problem with me ever since you banned me a million times in the past month or so, and that comment about becoming a SysOp was unnecessary, so just leave me alone and get on with your own business. --SilvaStorm
- Hey, I've learned my lesson about making articles on speculation only, and I won't be doing it again. I am in no way trying to vandalise or harm the site, as I really think it is a great one. All my previous efforts have been for the greater good, but not everybody sees them in that way. --SilvaStorm
Re:User
He wasn't THAT bad Paul, he was just posting speculation. He's made other average edits, so is an infinite ban necessary? --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:57, 11 November 2006 (PST)
Template: Index on main page has incorrect link
The Hatch link on the locations section is wrong, it should take you to The Hatch (Swan exterior). --SilvaStorm

Well since...
Since Jabr didnt answer, or rather, ignored me... im finishing the Lostpedia:Bureacrats page. What i have so far is just basicly a report on how many bureacrats we have. Rather boring since we only have two. I need to know information on how one becomes a bureacrat so i can finish it up. Thanks and Namaste -- Iron Man Send a message View contributions 18:12, 17 November 2006 (PST)

If you can, come on IRC. I have some er... interesting news --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:37, 18 November 2006 (PST)
- I know its charity, but do we really need to sell it off to all our users like this? From the page you've made, I don't even fully get it --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:07, 20 November 2006 (PST)
More rumor articles
Thanks to you and Jabrwocky7 for clearing those out. I think it's a good idea to delete the page before locking it since some around here seem to have a fetish for being first on the history list (I won't mention any names, but I bet you could get it in one guess), and that may be part of the reason these keep getting recreated. I found a few more articles created based on rumors: Sherry, Kimberly Estrada, Zeljko Ivanek, Fionnula Flanagan, Paris Barclay and Bai Ling. --Minderbinder 15:59, 20 November 2006 (PST)
