Dharma Van

Can you put this on the dharma van page for me?--Nokia 19:21, 28 February 2007 (PST)

An idea

Hey Mr.Leaf I just had an idea. How about we do Lostpedian of the week. Then users can nominate who they want. Then the users that have been nominated can put this template Template:Nomlostweek on there user pages. Then the users can vote for one of the users that have been nominate. Then on every sunday we pick The Lostpedian of the week. P.S. I tell you the rest of the plan later.Nokia (Talk) (Email) (Contribs)

unban

You can unban User:Princess Dharma, time has expired. Hopefully she won't be a problem. --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 12:31, 1 March 2007 (PST)

Also you can unban User:CRFL78. (I think though that it would be better to ban him permanetly) --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 12:34, 1 March 2007 (PST)

Thanks, I still think you should ban CRFL78, he was never trying to help Lostpedia. --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 12:42, 1 March 2007 (PST)

Thanks

Ok thanks--Nokia 15:47, 1 March 2007 (PST)

DST

I don't know if the DST thing is that big of a problem, really. Does Canada take part in this foolish practice too? I never know. Anyway, in the U.S., our illustrious leader (bless his hanging chad) decided to pass an "energy bill" that made daylight savings start three weeks earlier, and end three weeks later. It doesn't accomplish much except to confuse cell phones and computers, but they should all catch up in about two weeks. -BearDog 09:17, 15 March 2007 (PDT)

Unprotect some images for a sec

Can you unprotect every image that has been on the front page for about ten minutes, so I can add the appriate categories to them? Thanks --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 12:21, 15 March 2007 (PDT)

  • Well maybe not every image, that would be asking a lot. Just do a few. --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 12:23, 15 March 2007 (PDT)
    • Unprotect images that were protected because they were or are featured articles. I need to add categories for those. Thanks. --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 12:25, 15 March 2007 (PDT)

Psuedo Edit War

Hey, over at Scientology (theory) we've worked hard today to make it a decent article and not a POV ladden article. An admin came by earlier and requested that a Logo image be removed as the reason it was up there was incorrect and proven incorrect by J.J. in a podcast. The image was placed up again, and I removed it and asked them to not replace it until an Admin could approve. Since that time, I have constantly attempted to make the page NPOV by editing after the other two users: User:TomCruise and User:Enturbulate, who I highly doubt are two people at all but one, though that is merely speculative. Every new edit of theirs is making it less about the purpose of the article and lost-centric to a Scientology-centric article which is more or less irrevelant. Every edit is also being listed as 'minor' when they are adding pictures and information to the article. I do not wish to cause any problems but I thought that an admin may want to go through the last few edits and see which one they thought may best suit the purpose of the wiki. Thanks for any assistance.   Hooper   talk    contribs    email   16:44, 26 March 2007 (PDT)

Thanks for taking the time to look into it. I know admins are busy, and it was appreciated.   Hooper   talk    contribs    email   17:12, 26 March 2007 (PDT)

Hey Man

You removed a whole lot - such as the philanthropic organisation. hubbards mention of dharma (that i can provide a citation if needed) and the references to buddism (which concidering other thoughts about lost is very relebvant to the theory) i feel your removal has unneccessarily weakened the theory

thnkx :)

TomCruise 17:06, 26 March 2007 (PDT)

i'm confused scientology ARC? and dharma SWAN

i am confused i just got back, what exactly is wrong with the file. is it POV or against policy. am i wrong about bout the arc of scientology and dharma Enturbulate

Hi, I'm wondering if I violated protocol by putting the sub's status into question in my edit, or if you simply disagree. If I did something inappropriate, I'd like to know so I don't do it again. Was my edit a spoiler, or theory?

Hey, noob here. Did I do something wrong by editing the sub page to make the explosion inconclusive? The latest podcast refuses to answer it conclusively. Is that a spoiler that shouldn't be there, or a theory that shouldn't be there. Damon is pretty coy in the podcast. RMlives 00:48, 27 March 2007 (PDT)RMlives

Causes of Death

Hey, got your message, and I don't see why causes of death shouldn't be included. They're one of the most important actions in a character's lifespan, and other info, like why they're in australia, their origin, and their occupation are all included in the box. It doesn't take up much space, nor does it detract from the aesthetics of the page. Get back to me. Svmenhovex 19:31, 27 March 2007 (PDT)

Yeah, I guess you have a point, but for characters with larger articles, and characters who aren't just redshirts, the death of a character is a relatively important piece of information regarding them. I think I did a decent job explaining most of the deaths, most of the time it's just one word, like "suicide", or "killed by _____". It adds an extra line to the infobox, when other things that are less relevant to the character take up far more space. Svmenhovex 16:45, 28 March 2007 (PDT)

CoScient. theory

as you suggested i have added some addition suggestion to the Scientology theory Talk Page. it would be great to discuss lostpedia and my article in IRC... i am sorry i am a total newb. someone who spoke about Lost theories on youtube suggested i post my theory to lostpedia as he thought my theory was really quite frighteningly good. I am sorry there has been quarrelling. i have no quarrel with Hooper but i assumed he was a sysop from the moment he communicated with me (this was my first question to him) as his tone suggests a "what i say goes" kindof air about him. no problem. but much of the dispute was a "pseudo edit war" as he called it, because whilst i was working on the article he kept jumping in and removing things i had written b4 i had a chance to strengthen the links. sorry i am quite slow with editing but i am a newb and i have forgotten much wiki coding. Also Hooper is stating as fact that i created two accounts to edit the article (i dont understand why someone would do that) - can you tell from the IP's (?) that this was not the case plz. He is also accusing my of "Religious Trolling" by stating simple canon from Scientology that relates to Lost and is mirrored in the Lost narrative. Scientology is a minority religion, many do not know about it, and my mentions of sci canon is strictly NPOV - i am not mocking it in the slightest.

thanks ever so much TomCruise 00:00, 28 March 2007 (PDT)

  • BTW, we should incorporate a link to character appearances in all of the relevant character articles (so people don't continue to add that info). I'm thinking incorporating it into a hard-coded line in the infoboxes... although alternatively we could toss it into the character nav boxes. 3x11 Transcript

  • FYI I inserted the Russian and Arabic dialog into the Enter 77 transcript. The Russian has also been interleaved within the other characters' English dialog (a few lines from Sayid were missing). Anyways I see we're working with Lost-TV which is great, would you mind letting them know of the updates, in case they are interested in this minor update? Also I'm interested in your contacts there when you have a chance in IRC or email. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 13:59, 21 April 2007 (PDT)

Origin/Location

  • Before I made the changes, I checked out the usage guidelines for the various character templates. My understanding of the infobox templates, which is what I would have thought from common sense, was that "place" for people on the island such as Main Characters and The Others refers to their origin since obviously they are on the island now and we don't need to say that in the info box. But for flashback characters the usage guide said "Place" refers to current and other important locations, since obviously for flashback characters we aren't going to know where they were born but rather we want to know where we saw them in flashbacks. So as to avoid confusion, just for the flashback characters I changed the "Place" variable name from "Origin" to "Location" to be more conistant with the usage guide as written. I left The Others and Main Characters infobox templates as "Origin" since the usage guideline for them specified it meant origin. I think it's an important distinction that should be reflected in the flashback infobox. In any case, whatever you ultimately decide, it should be accurately reflected in the template page guidelines. References below... --Jackdavinci 15:11, 21 April 2007 (PDT)
    • Template:Infobox Flashback Character Place=The character main, or important locations. City, state, country (Note: this is what it said when I looked at it. Looks like you changed it)
    • Template:Infobox OceanicPassenger Character Place=PLACE IF KNOWN, OTHERWISE "UNKNOWN" (Note: this is still confusing in the usage guide)
    • Template:Infobox Other Character Place=[[PLACE OF ORIGIN]] (Note: less confusing, but could still have City, State, Country)
    • Template:Infobox Island Character Place=[[PLACE OF ORIGIN]]

--Jackdavinci 15:11, 21 April 2007 (PDT)

  • I definitely see where you are coming from. My main concern was that people were being way too picky about proving that someone's shown location is their true ultimate brithplace origin. If we wait for proof that someone was born where they live, then all of the flashback infoboxes are going to have a blank spot, in which case what's the point of having it? How about this compromise: keep them all as "Origin" and change all the guidelines to PLACE=Birthplace if known, otherwise first known location or "UNKNOWN" if neither is known. City, State/Province, Country--Jackdavinci 15:46, 21 April 2007 (PDT)

Blank Theory Pages

Hello Leaf, I have a question for you since you're an admin and everything. How does Lostpedia feel about blank theory pages? I say this because some people have put in theories for things like Michael Emerson/Theories and Robin Weigert/Theories only to have them be deleted minutes later. I point out these two theory pages because they are both actors and having bogus theories in there like "Michael Emerson is really Ben Linus and trying to take over the world" is, at least in my opinion, borderline vandelism. I haven't been able to find a Lostpedia page that talks about this. Do you know by any chance if they should be deleted if they're blank (except for the navs) or if we should just let them be? --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 16:24, 23 April 2007 (PDT)

Alternative 'ep' implementation

Just FYI, I added a discussion to change how Template:ep works here: Template talk:ep#Alternative way to implement. This may solve a problem currently happening on the Crimes page.-- Dagg talk contribs4 8 11:22, 29 April 2007 (PDT)

That's good news. I experimented some more as well, and I was only able to use Template:Ep 946 times on a page. Whereas, I was able to use User:Dagg/Test10 over 6,000 times. Shall we go ahead and implement this? I can go ahead and create all the required sub-templates with a script if we want.-- Dagg talk contribs4 8 15:41, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
Sorry about that, I didn't see your message in my other window until I'd already submitted them all. I'm going to need to submit some of them manually (such as ?, Fire + Water), since they don't follow the normal convention, but I gotta leave right now. The new ep template might need modified to handle those exceptions. -- Dagg talk contribs4 8 15:58, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
I think these are the final changes required:
  1. Edit: Template:Ep/1x18 and change it to: {{#if:{{{1|}}}|Numbers (episode)|Numbers}}<noinclude>{{protected}}</noinclude>
  2. Edit: Template:Ep/1x25 and change it to: {{#if:{{{1|}}}|Exodus, Part 2|Exodus, Part 3}}<noinclude>{{protected}}</noinclude>
  3. Edit all the new sub-templates, and remove the newline after the <noinclude>{{protected}}</noinclude> line.
  4. Then go to: User:Dagg/Test11 and verify it all looks good. If it does, then the latest contents of User:Dagg/Test10 can be copied into Template:ep.
-- Dagg talk contribs4 8 17:06, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
I think I've got the crossref/link issue fixed. I had to make another slight change to User:Dagg/Test10 to make sure that "" is returned if the argument is not a valid template name. If this is copied into Template:Ep, I think it will work. -- Dagg talk contribs4 8 18:48, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
I found a technique on Wikipedia to work-around that problem. Here is a new version that should fix it: User:Dagg/Test10. Unfortunately, this makes the template a little bigger, but it should still be ok. -- Dagg talk contribs4 8 21:58, 29 April 2007 (PDT)
Awesome, looks great! Glad to be of help. -- Dagg talk contribs4 8 15:50, 30 April 2007 (PDT)

hello?

Why exactly did you feel it necessary to ban me for a day? I really didn't appreciate it. Sysops are supposed to help people, not abuse their power. You don't have to be a jerk to moderate the system. Tarabyte 18:21, 21 May 2007 (PDT)

You have a messed up definition of "spam".

So what, now posting any external links to another user's talk page, no matter how relevant, is considered spam and is a bannable offence? Unbelievable. Tarabyte 18:25, 21 May 2007 (PDT)

Not like I was posting about viagra.

I was posting a highly RELEVANT request to people who are both interested in 24 and wiki contributors. Less than 10 such posts, and you consider it spam? Apparently you're not sympathetic towards any cause outside of Lostpedia.

Instead of having a sense of community and allowing people to interact in a friendly way with each other, you want to have a dictatorship.

I am simply trying to build up a site as great as Lostpedia for a different show that I love. But unlike you, when I get big I will not simply ban people for having interests outside of the primary subject material.

The point is...

You didn't need to ban me. Period. Not for one day, not for one hour. You said what your definition of spam was and I respected it, even though I didn't agree with it. The warning should have been enough. But you had to abuse your power and ban me, which I take offense to it because you didn't bother to give me the benefit of the doubt. Is it the same person ?

Hi Mr.Leaf, I saw your comment to User:Blownbylost about the extra Beth Merritt. Is it possible that you two aren't talking about the same person? The link you provided to a talent agency about a Laurabeth Merritte is about a 16 year-old person. I don't think there are middle-section extras of that age on Lost. Also, the Beth Merritt on Lost is a person that looks like she's probably around 40 year-old. You said that "we have been given the link her talent agency profile by a fellow background cast member". Could you explain where this reference can be found and who that person is (or claims to be)? Do you know if it is reliable? Given the above considerations, it seems strange. I haven't found any reference to this either on the article discussion page (there is currently no discussion page for the article) or on the background cast discussion page. Thanks. -- Cheers (talk) 10:03, 22 May 2007 (PDT)

Hamster

Thanks for redirecting deepdish, but while you're at it could you redirect hamster to animals? When you delete pages and protect them for recreation, sometimes they'll come up when you press "random page". Thanks --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 13:35, 25 May 2007 (PDT)

V

Thanks. Your explanation makes sense. That was probably the idea. I don't see the point of his redirection, however, as I can't see why someone would search or link "V" for "Bonne". It's like that other redirection created by that same user, "Johnny L" for John Locke. What's the point? That looks like creating pages for the sake of creating useless pages. Bah...

Ah, while I'm here, you got anything regarding my question about Beth Merritt? -- Cheers (talk) 17:12, 25 May 2007 (PDT)

Minkowski

Sorry, I don't have a recording of the episode, so I can't really confirm. What I do is I take written notes while watching the episodes with the captions on. So, I can't guarantee that my notes are always accurate on every detail, but in general I try to copy the names as they are spelled in the captions. Looking at my notes, for what it's worth, I see that I have noted that name as "Minkowski". -- Cheers (talk) 09:48, 26 May 2007 (PDT)

Vandal

Thanks, I was worried no one would come --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 18:49, 26 May 2007 (PDT)

Okay, I'll leave you a message next time. I thought adding the summary in the recent changes list would get your or someone else's attention --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 19:00, 26 May 2007 (PDT)

Redirecting

Hey, I was just wondering, how do you redirect a page?--Phil (talk) 12:57, 5 June 2007 (PDT)

Thanks for the help--Phil (talk) 13:01, 5 June 2007 (PDT)

Personal Attacks

I think you should ban User:Rooneyromero, on Talk:Lol*lost he has been attacking User:Plkrtn. Thanks --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 17:02, 6 June 2007 (PDT)

  • Hey, could you move Nav- Clip Shows to Nav-Clip Shows? Thanks --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 16:50, 8 June 2007 (PDT)

My Charlie Pic

Hi Ted,
The image you deleted wasn't borderline pornography. It was from the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind album. Can I have it restored please?
NigelWebb 02:25, 9 June 2007 (PDT)

  • I agree with your definition that pornography is "literature, pictures, films etc that are indecent in a sexual way" -but the image is in no way sexual. Maybe you know people who like to knock one out over low-res images of nudie babies with the superimposed face of Dominic Monaghan but I don't. Censoring the image is a massive and perverse over-reaction because the image is inherently innocent. You're protecting no one, and your decision is at best ill-conceived, and at worst perverted because you're the only one who's looked at the image and thought dirty things. Good luck to you x
NigelWebb 02:33, 14 June 2007 (PDT)
    • Aye, I won't but the image back up. But with all due respect, I think it was a terrible decision to remove it on that grounds that it might be offensive. Anyway, take it easy
