Theories Tab

Hi Jabberwock, I think you've just added your comment with the wrong discussion, The new section I made was actually meant to open a new discussion on a possible addition for a Article appropriate for Theories section in the Theories policy page. I think your comment goes with the above discussion of a Theoies tab. can I please ask you to move it, not to confuse both discussions and lose track ? thanks-- 07:34, 3 November 2006 (PST)

Thanks-- 07:46, 3 November 2006 (PST)

Thank you

Thank you for banning User:Blackface. I've been fighting him since he started with little help. Thank you, kind sir. Now, I'll be able to get some sleep when I'm done. --Aero*Zeppelin 00:43, 5 November 2006 (PST)

It might have come from a different IP. I can't tell what the IP for the first user was. --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 01:05, 5 November 2006 (PST)

I tried IRC, but for some reason, my computer or internet won't let me enter any sort of chatroom. I'll notify you next time something like this happens. I put out a message on the forum that no one seemed to notice or respond to. Anyways, thank you again for putting a stop to him when you did. --Aero*Zeppelin 01:06, 5 November 2006 (PST)

IRC scripts

  • As requested, FYI here is my general script, partially adapted from the original by neuralstatic in #osx and #macologist.
  • Fizban30 aka Paladine knows much more of this mIRC scripting, and he sent me some code for some of his scripts too. He's a great resource if you have questions on this stuff. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T17:30, 5 November 2006 (PST)

Username Ban

Hey Jabr, would you mind checking the bottom of my talk page? Marik pointed out a user who is using lostpedia in his name, but I couldn't find that exact person on doing a search; the link he gave was User: Walking lost pedia. --PandoraX 10:06, 8 November 2006 (PST)

  • Thanks; got him. PS, can you please link the page with the written rule against names with lostpedia, so I can reference it next time? Thanks in advance. --PandoraX 10:19, 8 November 2006 (PST)

Screencaps

Hey Jabr, do you do your own screencaps? I was wondering if you could help us get some caps from the S2 DVDs, if you have those... of the Secrets From the Hatch featurette (phase 3), about 2 or 3 min in, there's a bunch of blueprints of the Swan station design in there that I think would be useful to capture. Thanks in advance if you are able to, sorry for bugging you if you don't. --PandoraX 17:37, 8 November 2006 (PST)

New Theories template

Hi, Excellent work with the new theories tab!! I also noticed you came up with a new template with links to the main article and the talk page, another great idea. I just wanted to ask if we can consider resizing the new template a little ? it looks somewhat Huge and out of style when compared to the other templates we have, like the "theories may be deleted if" template added on the same page for instance. Also I think we should consider removing one of the two links in the template to the main article, cause currently both the template main text and the main article link to the left direct you towards the same page. Thanks-- 14:08, 14 November 2006 (PST)

Work with Dt7 on that template. I just through something together quick that was functional. I do like the idea of moving it up -4.5em's though to cover the ugly title generated by mediawiki. --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 19:07, 15 November 2006 (PST)

theory emigration w/ protected pages

hi; i just copied The Numbers' theories to the theory page however the topic is protected so i cannot remove them.. here are two things: 1- Can you remove theories from the main article when you have time? 2- What about theory pages of protected articles? will they be protected too? how 'bout that? thanks, Hudd talkcontrib 16:29, 14 November 2006 (PST)

Protection is always on a case-by-case basis, though I can't think of many protected pages where a theory page will really be needed. --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 19:07, 15 November 2006 (PST)
  • I just got it, thanks for pointing this out. --PandoraX 16:37, 14 November 2006 (PST)

Your theory tab is a thing of beauty, sir. I commend you. XSG 00:21, 15 November 2006 (PST)

Theory Tab - Fixes etc

  1. Move to the third tab along, after edit.
  2. Behaves like any other tab, rather than its unique behaviour at the moment.

Other than that, it works well. I think we might be implementing it a tad early, but its still a big step forward. -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  01:38, 15 November 2006 (PST)

I agree that it would be good to have it as the third tab, but I'm not sure how to get it there without actually hacking the mediawiki code itself. As an extension it just gets added as the last tab. --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 19:07, 15 November 2006 (PST)

Theory tab header template

I've prettified it... example here. I've also merged the little sidebar into the top, so it takes up less space overall. -Chris[dt7] 01:54, 15 November 2006 (PST)

  • Not perfect -- on the left side of the tab, you can see part of a hyperlink sticking out at the bottom. --Amberjet11 10:28, 15 November 2006 (PST)

Font

When you guys were playing, did you mess with the site's font sizes. Every page I go to I have to manually switch text font to the right size. And recent changes is automatically in like size 6 when I go to it --Nickb123 (Talk) 03:31, 15 November 2006 (PST)

Sorry, I think its just my computer. Also though, could we possibly have a template for the bottom of each article similar to the site notice. Saying, for instance, "all theories have now been moved to a separate subpage. You can find theories in concern of this article at [[Article title/Theories]]" - and use a set formula so it links to the right page? --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:29, 15 November 2006 (PST)
nfont thing its not just your computer.. but its probably something with ie because firefox2 shows it just fine.. Hudd talkcontrib 10:25, 15 November 2006 (PST)
Not sure what's causing your font problem. It looks fine for me in IE7 and Firefox2. --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 19:07, 15 November 2006 (PST)
Well I use netcaptor w/ ie6 and letters are pretty big.. i agree with firefox2 showing it fine. what is odd is special pages (like contributions and preferences) show fine in ie6, but article pages, talk pages, edit pages and main page does have large letters.. interesting.. Delete all Parody Theories

They are nothing more than focused vandalism labled Parody for legitamacy. While some might be intertaining, they offer no enhancement or factual knowledge of the show LOST. What's next, a whole "parody" page where people can post which character is gay, or which one they'd like to sleep with?--ASEO 13:50, 15 November 2006 (PST)

I'm with you on that, but it's certainly not a decision that one person would make. I suggest initiating discussion on the talk page for LP:TP. --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 19:07, 15 November 2006 (PST)
Please see Talk:Fan theories, where a long discussion was already had on the topic, and the consensus was to keep as a general category and approach deletions on a case-by-case basis; individual parody theories are clearly labeled as such. Anyone, however, is welcome to reapproach that topic. --PandoraX 22:26, 15 November 2006 (PST)
Im guilty of NOT exactly, totally, really,. ..... OKAY OKAY! So I created a parody! Geeez! Big deal! But parodies are documentations of all EXTERNAL parodies of LOST. I admit i broke, or rather bent the rules on that with my parody theory... but we all gotta have some fun sometimes. Big Ass Text

  • You might know this already, but the text for Internet Explorer users has gotten a good deal larger. Could you possibly do something about it?--CaptainInsano
    • I agree, it is quite annoying. My userpage has been enlarged nearly 3 times it's normal size, and the mainpage dosn't look as good as it did before under the new change. Could you find a way that benefits both Firefox and IE users? Thanks, --Gateboy42 17:00, 15 November 2006 (PST)
      • Not sure what's causing that. It looks fine for me in both IE7 and Firefox2. Are you using the monobook skin? Does it happen on all pages? --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 19:07, 15 November 2006 (PST)
      • I've seen it in IE6 & 7 and it still looks big...and I'm using the monobook skin. From what I can gather it seems to affect most of the pages on the site except those with the "Special:" prefix (like Recent Changes). Frankly its a pain in the Arse...Kivipat

It is very annoying. I took a screenshot of how it looks big, and how it normally looks (as it still looks normal on the Special pages):

Dude, great work with the Theory Tab thingy. Seriously, congrats! Is it possible to make the Theory tab red if there is nothing on it? Not all the pages have theories so it's nice to know instead of clicking every time you get to a page.--EvilSmoke 18:32, 15 November 2006 (PST)

Mediawiki on equations page

Hi Jabber! I was wondering if you knew anyone who could fix Blast door map equations. It used to look great, and now something is all messed up; I guess it's a mediawiki coding problem. I don't know who might know how to correct that. --PandoraX 14:56, 19 November 2006 (PST)

More rumor articles

Thanks to you and Plkrtn for clearing those out. I think it's a good idea to delete the page before locking it since some around here seem to have a fetish for being first on the history list (I won't mention any names, but I bet you could get it in one guess), and that may be part of the reason these keep getting recreated. I found a few more articles created based on rumors: Sherry, Kimberly Estrada, Zeljko Ivanek, Fionnula Flanagan, Paris Barclay and Bai Ling. --Minderbinder 15:59, 20 November 2006 (PST)

it's me

Hi, yes I'm the real Mark Stitham! [president and only member of my fan club!] I don't have a higher resolution head shot right now.

I think Glen Cannon, our local SAG branch president, and I are the only two to have two different guest roles on Lost. Do you know of any others? [Glen was the priest who heard Charlie's confession and the old man who sells Hurley his scooter at the airport].

Anyway I felt pretty damn lucky even though the unseen editors literally cut my scene in HALF! I had a page-long monologue that came out pretty choppy with all the transition dialogue gone. oh well

is this email or another page?! you'll know what to do i'm sure

Further to talking to you on IRC about odd images I couldn't view unless I disabled the firewall, another user has highlighted this. Interestingly, its on the same images that I can't see, and we both use the Norton firewall. Thus, the images must be special in some way from others, and as Norton is a popular firewall, it would be interesting to understand whats going on. Any ideas? Two images so far are [1] and [2]. Dude, what the hell?

How come you removed all of those articles of my userpage, saying I didn't create them? Did you seriously spend the better part of half an hour going through each page I had listed and checking to see if I was telling the truth? That's pretty sad, man. I actually did create all of those pages, no matter what you say (except for The Hatch (Swan exterior) which someone else created, but I wrote the entire article for it). If you look at the pages history, you will see my name for the person who made it. It doesn't matter that some of them may have been redirected, I still created them in the first place! That was just unnecessary, it's not like I'm claiming to have made The Others or DHARMA Initiative articles... --SilvaStorm

Get over it. It's obvious that you were manually moving articles just so you could claim you created them...even after being asked to stop. It's pretty sad that you feel the need to take credit for pages that you did not create. On the pages that were redirects, I did in fact look at the "What links here" and view the original articles. I only removed articles that were originally created by other users. Copying existing content, redirecting, and creating a new page does not count as "creating" an article. --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 07:41, 24 November 2006 (PST)
I take serious issue with taking credit for an article based on "creating" it. An article is written by many different people, in those cases (and many others) you just started a page with little or no content, and the real work was all done by others. The point of a wiki is not to take "credit", it's to collaborate on a project. If you're doing this to get "credit", you're here for the wrong reasons. I completely support Jabber's deletions and I actually think there are more that should go. --Minderbinder 07:49, 24 November 2006 (PST)

Not in Portland

The podcast is an official source and they say "shall we pre-hash Not in Portland?" - which is always the next episode, so to me it is obviously 3x07 - can it not be readded? --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:57, 13 December 2006 (PST)

Well I just mean that they always pre-hash the next immediate episode, and have never done so for any other one. Also, I don't know if waiting for ABC Media is good enough when sometimes they don't even do releases (e.g. "I Do"). But OK, I don't care that much, just pointing it out --Nickb123 (Talk) 10:03, 13 December 2006 (PST)

sockpuppetry (multiple account)

  • Re: IP 62.171.194.36. It recently got reg'd for 3 accounts, but there have been no contributions yet. I wasn't sure if we had an explicitly stated policy against that, so I didn't apply any bans, and dropped a note here to your page instead. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 04:19, 19 December 2006 (PST)

Season 2 correction

  • Not sure if you were the right person to talk to but I'll give it a try as you seem to have posted a lot on the Season 2 talk page. For man of Science, Man of Faith, David Ely is credited as a Nurse which just goes to the disambiguation page. However the actual character he plays is the Intern. As the page is locked I thought I would point it out to someone who can change it.

P.S. Why is the Season 2 page locked? I'm just curious, the Season 1 and Season 3 pages aren't.

Future Guest Stars

  • What is Lostpedia's policy or views on pages for future guest stars. Such as those appearing in Not in Portland. Is just adding a infobox alright? Or can we fill all the information about the actor in? And do those pages need a spoiler warning?Thanks--Mr.Leaf 16:56, 22 January 2007 (PST)

Orchestra Sp

Hey Jabbr, I'm confused about this Orchestra special. Are you sure it is not the same podcast as for [[3]]? It's the same date, and if you read the description, the interview is also with Michael Giacchino, and also if you listen to the podcast, it is also about composing the score to Lost. It would be weird if they had two podcasts out the same day about the same soundtrack info? Let me know, I wasn't downloading at the time. Thanks. --PandoraX 15:33, 23 January 2007 (PST)

  • Ahh, thanks for clearing that up! I was confused. As I was reading the descriptions (since people didn't have the actual archived mp3s), they sounded the same, and I found it hard to believe they'd have two different ones on the same day, both interviewing the composer. I'll make sure that's clear on the page. And yes, that would be a great help if you could upload any to the server and link to lostpedia. As you can see, we are missing a few archived ones, and they are no longer available through itunes. I spent like half an hour searching online to see if anyone had them, and all the links were broken. Thank you!! --PandoraX 15:39, 23 January 2007 (PST)
  • You could email them to me at (edit: removed email address) and I'll keep it to myself. On the other links, I don't know that person, but they were offering up the links on a forum, so I figured it was fair game, but do you think they'd take issue with it? I figured it would not be a huge bandwidth on this site, hidden in one link. But we could remove them if you think it could be un-kosher. --PandoraX 15:48, 23 January 2007 (PST)
  • That's a very good idea. I didn't feel entirely comfortable with the outside links either, and was considering taking them down once transcripts were made. --PandoraX 16:05, 23 January 2007 (PST)

user question

  • What do you think of User:Kente? He made edits to a single article only (Wheelchair), but I couldn't tell if it was vandalism (2nd edit) or a case of mistaken identity (did he think this was the Spanish lostpedia?). -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 19:03, 23 January 2007 (PST)

World locations pg

Hey Jabbr, LP has been slow for me all day, but I can still get into most pages. But for some reason, I can't get into World locations. I've tried several times, and it's mostly just that page, I think, for me. Any idea what's wrong? I want to add something on Tallahassee that the writers said in the podcast. --PandoraX 11:27, 24 January 2007 (PST)

Spoiler "Official Sources"

  • Hey Jabbr, saw you deleted the Juliet-centric note at the bottom of Not in Portland, could you leave some of your thoughts on clarifying "official sources" for us at [4]? We've had this ongoing debate about sources outside of ABC media net. I understand it's important to be cautious, but that particular quote by Elizabeth Mitchell that the episode will be Juliet-centric (in no uncertain terms) on SciFiWire seems pretty official to me. --PandoraX 08:22, 28 January 2007 (PST)
  • Ok, either way, it's no big deal, but I just would like to hear what the other mods feel about what constitutes "officiality" in that discussion thread... it would seem to me that if Matthew Fox tells TV Guide that a certain future episode is about him, that that should count as official? Are we going by the strict ABC media-net/ABC-centric definition only? This is for curiosity and clarification only, not contentiousness. Thanks Jabbs. --PandoraX 16:35, 30 January 2007 (PST)
  • Keep in mind this project is supposed to be an encyclopedic, not a spoiler-filled fansite. Interviews and statements by actors have been incorrect before and they do not know the whole picture. Keep it to official sources. There is usually only a two week gap between press release and episode. If people feel they can't wait that long, there are several other sites out there that should be able to quench their thirst. --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 18:35, 30 January 2007 (PST)
  • I understand your reasoning and the idea of erring on the side of caution on this site, but I think you'll continue to encounter resistence and confusion over this subject (not from me, I mean, but I've seen this brought up quite a bit). Is there a LP policy page on this? You can see where Dagg and I and others were trying to make a template on this, and it seems the I think the consensus there was more to allow other larger media sites (TVguide, EW, etc), so long as there are specific quotes included (yes, actors do not know the whole picture as far as plot arcs, but they do know which episodes they are starring in). I'm ok with your definitions also, as I really don't think we need to be so impatient on LP, but think we need clearer definitions for others in the future. --PandoraX 04:36, 1 February 2007 (PST)
  • PS: Nevermind. I see where you referenced the theory policy article now. My confusion is that... if this is considered an all-inclusive list, then it conflicts with the canon policy page's last point:
* Other information that is publicly released; interviews, etc.

--PandoraX 04:38, 1 February 2007 (PST)

  • Interviews could be considered canon or official, but it depends on who is being interviewed and the topic. Jorge Garcia would be considered an expert about the way he had to act in a particular scene as Hurley or something like that, but his statements about future episodes shouldn't be considered official. An interview with someone from TPTB such as Damon or Carlton would be considered official (as long as they aren't joking). Things aren't always black & white, so stick to official sources for future episodes. This isn't a spoiler site. --   Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 07:16, 1 February 2007 (PST)
  • Thanks, Jabber, and I do know where you are coming from (as far as the site goes)... there is a lot of impatience from some of the new users to get things up. On another note, would you please give me access to the admin section of the forums? I usually don't mind leaving notes on talk pages, but I have a personal matter. My username over there is just Pandora, no X. --PandoraX 12:33, 1 February 2007 (PST)
