The Live Together, Die Alone page

What happened to it? I've been gone for a week visiting my grandmother, and I came back to see that page a jumbled, unorganized mass. What exactly happened? -- Ramirez Selvarn 16:25, 4 June 2006 (PDT)

I'm working on cleaning it up now, starting witht the theories section. -- Ramirez Selvarn 16:43, 4 June 2006 (PDT)

Front Page Spoilers

I'm hoping you'll agree that revealing that Michael is a murderer on the front page isn't cool for international viewers and you'll take action. XSG 12:15, 5 June 2006 (PDT)

My Request!!!!!!!

I have seen that you post most of the theorys, comments, and over all stuff on lostpedia. I now want to see how well your imagination is. Go to my talk under my name to post a made up character you that could appear on Lost under my username. I have aleready posted one of my characters. I just want to see one of yours. Sincerely--Jigsaw 07:20, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

Thank you User:GodEmperorOfHell for your information. I appreciate that you didn't shoot down my idea of posting made up characters on my user page. I thought of the character Zack when i was in school and me and my friend have come up with a pretty cool idea for what the epeisode would be like. I still would like to know what strange, twisted, and crazy character you could come up with. As you can see I have already posted myn. Sincerely--Jigsaw 14:33, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

What do you mean you already are your character? Is there a way to reach Lost producers so that I can see if they would use my character in a later season? If there is, please let me know or tell them your self that Jigsaw has a character that would be cool to appear on Lost. I don't care if they use it, I just want to see it on Lost because that would be a cool character. So if you have the answers to my questions, please let me know. Sincerely--Jigsaw 15:30, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

I have posted Zack thuogh I would like to know how to change the name of the page so i can find it under the search engine rather than typing Template:Lostaway. I thank you. Sincerely--Jigsaw 10:02, 12 June 2006 (PDT)

My sincerest apologys, I thought once you changed the name of the template, it would make it it's own page. I am very sorry. Sincerely--Jigsaw 12:02, 13 June 2006 (PDT)

Pages that don't link anywhere

How do you tell which pages don't have any links pointing to them? -- Ramirez Selvarn 18:56, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

Then what does Special:Lonelypages do? -- Ramirez Selvarn 19:03, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

Canonicity

Continuing from some of your previous comments, I started a rough draft of an article on canonicity: Canon. Obviously SYSOPs should actually write the final article, and I know you have a lot of content for the issue. I've noted the draft status in the article talk, hope that is OK with you for now. Also I noticed there's no article on the Fuselage forums yet. C¯ _Santa_ ¯T19:15, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

Opinion

Just want your opinion on something. On the Arrow and stations pages there's reference that 'the producers have hinted there are many arrow stations, and that they are like supply houses'. One of the articles says this info came from a podcast, though I can't find the specific one. I've posted on the discussion thread for some specific date or evidence and given ample time for someone to intervene. Considering the blast door map information identifying the Arrow specifically, do you agree this theory should now definitely go? I didn't want to just delete it cause in a way it makes some logical sense, but without evidence of the producer statement, I'm taking it as pure speculation --Nickb123 03:17, 9 June 2006 (PDT)

Thanks for the advice, I'll do some digging to see if I can find a reference --Nickb123 12:09, 9 June 2006 (PDT)

Keith Baker - 1000 Article Fun

I just thought it was kind of cool, going for number 1,000... maybe we shoud have a contest for every 100 articles? Something to excite people about generating new pages...

Keith Baker -- His former page was a wiki-nightmare, so I moved it all to Keith Baker, changed all the pages that linked to the old article, and capped it off with a redirect page.

Loving Lostpedia!

Jenolen 08:59, 9 June 2006 (PDT)

Re: Contests -- I remember the Logo contest -- it's what got me to sign up as a user (and contributor) here, as opposed to just a browser... Contests do work! Maybe the Order of the Swan (The Pearl Prize?) would work, too..  :)

Jenolen 09:27, 9 June 2006 (PDT)

Couple of ideas

Just wanted to express a couple of ideas to a sysop to see if its possible: 1)It might already be done, but could we create a template like cleanup that identifies articles that lack any pictures? I mean many pages are being stubbed when all they are missing is just a little image to make the article look a littler fuller. 2) Just a simple idea for a competition on here, again might have been done, designing a LOST background character and sending in brief biographies for the character - the most unique and interesting of which would win. Just some thoughts, probably old news like I say --Nickb123 14:55, 13 June 2006 (PDT)

LostDude815

Can you please ban Lostdude815 cause he did vandalism? He already been warned but he continue. John LockeBIGGEST fan

I want to join in on this request. He's too immature to be active on this kind of collaboration project. I've tried to to warn him, but he has later on tried to remove all content on talk pages and there's this article he's constantly has been trying to move... --Jambalaya 07:40, 2 July 2006 (PDT)

He made an template that said poooooooop on it--CaptainInsano

I wanna jump in too, LostDude815 should be banned, though if I'm being honest I think he's moved on - he reverted a vandalism he'd done and said 'ok its been changed, good day to you all' or words to that effect. But, still a ban would be appropriate --Nickb123 (Talk) 14:23, 2 July 2006 (PDT)

Links after a page is deleted

I've just been going through the wanted pages looking for titles that don't actually need a page but are simply mis-directed (e.g. with Christian Shepard the link just needs a tweak etc). Anyways I've noticed that when a page is deleted it'll simply go to the wanted pages cause more often than not there's links pointing to the culprit page from other articles. Shouldn't it be checked using 'what links here' if there are pages pointing to an article when it gets deleted, otherwise someone might come along and make the article again? --Nickb123 (Talk) 08:24, 3 July 2006 (PDT)

User:Platypus222

Sorry to bother you, but Platypus222 has made a welcome template and I know that you disapprove of welcoming new users, so I thought you should know. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, CaptainInsano

Cool. I have my own topic. Anyway -- Take a look at the template. I have described my reasons for why it exists and why it should remain on the template talk page. I think you'll agree it's better than The thing's welcome. It offers information and actually welcomes people, rather than just "being a doorman." I hope you "approve." -Platypus Man | Talk 22:07, 5 July 2006 (PDT)
i think the welcome message is a good idea, personally, especially now policy is starting to take shape. as opposed to just an 'hello' message, the new one contains some genuinely useful links for n00bs. my 2c --kaini. 10:48, 6 July 2006 (PDT)

potential flamewar

I'm trying to avoid a flamewar. Could you keep an eye on this discussion so it doesn't get worse? Thanks as always. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T20:51, 5 July 2006 (PDT)

I'm one of the participants in the exchange Santa linked to. I'm cool, so long as CaptainInsano is cool too. We're having a "heated debate", not a "flamewar". But it seems to be more or less resolved, in any case. :) --Shodan1138 23:24, 5 July 2006 (PDT)
Thanks Shodan =) -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T13:54, 7 July 2006 (PDT)

TheThing

Was TheThing supposed to have stopped posting welcome messages on users' talk pages? I just got one - and I've been using the site for quite a while. Annoying - not severely so, but still annoying. --Doc 10:13, 6 July 2006 (PDT)

He used my template (see above). For some reason, he copied the contents out rather than using the template itself. Apparently, he didn't realize that it was meant primarily for new users, but I have set him straight (I hope). -Platypus Man | Talk 09:48, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
Yes, very nice - except that he has been explicitly asked repeatedly not to post welcome messages at all. Check TheThing's talk page for the full history. --Doc 10:03, 7 July 2006 (PDT)

"Welcome" alternatives

I agree that cluttering each and every user's talk with a template is unnecessary as well as being abusive (am not gonna quote the whole smolderwar thread). You did good by quashing this practice.

Yet, there is a nub of value to what they were attempting to do. Can we create a 'new user' page, listing most of the points and links in the welcome template, then link to New_User_Info (or whatever) from the main page? Redirects for 'newbie', 'clueless', and other euphemisms may be in order. That way, a search will turn up the page as well.

Worth considering? Dmuk § 12:20, 7 July 2006 (PDT)

p.s. I meant in addition to the help links at the bottom of the main page. Dmuk § 12:23, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
good idea. i might have a go at it tonight. --kaini. 12:24, 7 July 2006 (PDT)
I'm not sure how technically possible this is, but why can't the wiki just send a user a one-time email with a Welcome message with some helpful links, at the moment they create their account? That would make it completely automatic, and more importantly, it would reduce an enormous amount of clutter on the main page. The drawback, I suppose, is that it's not something that a "normal user" like us could implement. --Shodan1138 12:25, 7 July 2006 (PDT)

It`s a good idea having a 'start here', mebbe as a subsection for help, I have been having good faith that this is not the first wiki people go to, but then again it is. I really like when a new user asks directly how to create a page, instead of referring them t the help page I take the time to explain it, that helps to create a community. we have done a heckuva good jorb on that, don't you think? --†††GodEmperorOfHell††† 14:16, 8 July 2006 (PDT)

All articles are now Protected from Moves

TO: All Sysops

Our most recent troll found a really annoying way to automate a ton of edits. Making the rolling back process take much much longer. He made rollbacks very difficult by deleting the content on the article, saving and then moving the article to a new location.

Long story short. I have updated the database to force every article to be move protected. Only Sysops have the rights to move articles from one place to another.

When this vandal returns, we will be able to roll back his changes in the normal EASY way. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks, Admin --Admin 07:25, 8 July 2006 (PDT)

blank label comics

found you there via a simple google search! seems you're the only person on the web with this username... --kaini. 09:12, 8 July 2006 (PDT)

d'oh! even whilst writing the preferences help document, i could not find the link! and now i can, on the left of the screen. oh well. i too am a fan of comics and graphic novels... during my formative years, i was a huge fan of 2000 AD if you know that (you probably will via judge dredd) - but Pat Mills as well, possibly; he was involved in writing nemesis the warlock, sláine, and ABC warriors, all of which have a strong discordian element in the plot. additionally i love Neil Gaiman's stuff, Alan Moore's stuff, and i rank watchmen very highly as well. --kaini. 18:39, 8 July 2006 (PDT)

Why I re-created the JERK Insano entry...

Someone decided to delete the article without deleting the corresponding talk page. I saw the talk page through another recent change, referring to an article that clearly should be deleted. I then saw that the article itself was blank, so I added the {{delete}} template, so that it could be deleted... not realizing that it had already been deleted. So basically, the lesson that I think should be learned from this is that when you delete an article, delete that article's talk page as well. XSG 01:12, 22 July 2006 (PDT)

Okay

DHARMA Initiative Protection

Hey, could you please unprotect the page? I was just working on it. I don't really see the need of protecting it. If that guy is gonna continue causing trouble you should just give him a warning or something. I think that would be enough to stop him. --Peephole 16:12, 30 July 2006 (PDT)

Re: No doorman

OK, but you're warning me now? I made the template on July 5, but I stopped using it after more people didn't like it. I still defended it, but I haven't used the thing since July 7. I figured out a long time ago that you people don't like it. I still like the idea, but I have defended it with all of my reasons to no avail. I got it. However, I do have one request. Could you change the "NULL" on the template to something else? Now, on all the pages that have it, it says "NULL" with a signature. If nothing else, change "NULL" to "Welcome" so that it still makes sense where it has been used. The damage has been done, so to say. These people have already been welcomed, so it won't hurt anything if it says "Welcome" and nothing else on their page, rather than "NULL." A <noinclude> message may also help to directly tell people not to use it. Either that or manually go through and remove it on all the pages on which it was used. -Platypus Man | Talk 09:08, 1 August 2006 (PDT)

Rachels

As "move" powers are now for Sysops only, was just wondering if you could do something for me. There's now three different Rachel's in Lostville and so I was hoping you could move Rachel to e.g. "Rachel (Claire's Friend), so I could then make Rachel a disambiguation page to account for Rachel Blake, Rachel as in Tom Brennan's girl, and Claire's friend Rachel. Thanks in advance --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:20, 1 August 2006 (PDT)

OK...your poem is lost on this simple mind. Thanks for your quick response anywayz. By the way, been waiting for you to lay the smackdown on that welcome template :-) --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:31, 1 August 2006 (PDT)

My second request of the day: can you unprotect LostPedia:Article of the Week Archive. It currently needs an update for the last couple of weeks, and to be honest I'm wondering why its protected anyway, it acts just like a template really, and its not exactly difficult for editors to grasp, just add and change the week date accordingly. So I guess I vote for a permanent unprotect, but a temporary one for the time being will do for me to update. Thanks in advance again --Nickb123 (Talk) 15:16, 1 August 2006 (PDT)

Lost Season 2

Hi there, you seem be a sysop. I would like to request an edit on the protected Lost Season 2 article. I would do this on the talk page, but that's protected as well. Recently the article ? has changed into a disambiguation page, with the episode going to the page ? (Episode). All the links on season 2 page lead to the disambiguation. --Phmall 14:41, 1 August 2006 (PDT)

EDIT: Jabrowsky sorted it, but I noticed that when, I presume its the rollback command, was used that the picture changes he'd done weren't reverted at the same time, and so they stayed for a while before editors realised.
