Wanted pages

Hi Kevin, is it possible to change the parameters on the wanted pages list so 1 link pages don't show up anymore? I know it used to be a minimum of two links. Also, is it possible to make it only count main articles rather than talk pages? Thanks, --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:53, 12 May 2007 (PDT)

adult language in high-traffic articles

Hi,

There is an issue with adult language on the site. The term "mindfuck" which used to reside in its own adult-marked article is now being applied as a "literary term" to some of the most heavly trafficed articles on this wiki. Those articles include most of the articles for recent episodes. When I started to notice it tonight, it had spread to 15 articles.

I dont think this issue can be dealt with by the sysops because a number of them are vocal advocates for the use and application of the term in Lostpedia. Those who are not advocates are unlikely to challenge those who are.

I think there needs to be a decision about the direction this site is going to take in terms of adult language on the high-traffic articles. I would suggest at a minimum that adult language warnings have to go on the articles. I'm no prude about language, but going down the path that seems to be starting is likely to really hurt this site.

Thank you for reading Dharmatel4 01:07, 17 May 2007 (PDT)

I think we need a new name instead for mindfuck. Perhaps "mindwarp"? This is the only bad language that appears around here though. --Blueeagleislander 01:29, 17 May 2007 (PDT)

I haven't completely formed an opinion on the term. I do like Jabberwork's suggestion about linking to the article as Mindf*ck. --Admin 17:16, 23 May 2007 (PDT)

High there, I recently uploaded a new high-res version of Image:Normal 77-cap17.jpg and the thumbnails it is linked to are nor all stretched, can anything be done about that? --Jazza|talk|Contributions 15:23, 17 May 2007 (PDT)

unethical behavior by sysop

There was a proposal to delete a controversial article mindfuck. The proposal to delete was made around May 5th. At least two sysops including    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   were strongly against the proposal.

As of yesterday, 21 users expressed opinions in favor of deletion agianst 8 opposed. In spite of the overwhelming vote in favor of getting rid of the article, none of the sysops would make a decision to get rid of it.

Today    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   moved the discussion without comment into an archive. When pressed on what he had done, he admitted that he personally determined that 21-8 was not a consensus and terminated the proposal. His behiavior is unethical for the following reasons:

1) He had a strong personal stake in the proposal (opposing it). For him to decide to end it is a conflict of interest.

2) He ignored the consensus of the Lostpedia community.

3) Rather than come out and terminate the discussion openly, he attempted to hide the dicussion in an archive and put nothing in that archive to indicate that he had personally decided to reject the proposal.

4) He tells the user community that "it's not a vote and there are no ballots". But if thats true, I would like like to know by what authority a single sysop gets to make a decision against the wishes of the user community. If the sysops as a group have decided something, they should stand up and say what they did.

The bottom line is that a sysop with a very strong view about a proposal should not be making final decisions on their own about that proposal. And if decisions are made, that should be made in the open. Dharmatel4 16:35, 23 May 2007 (PDT)

SysOps are appointed to make decisions on behalf of the community as a whole. The discussion was closed because after a good period for discussion, a consensus on what to do, delete/rename and a suitable name if we were to rename it, wasn't reached. The contents of the article itself is sound, there are no grounds for deletion based upon contents, and no deletion will occur when the content is sound but people disagree with the title. If people find the article's title offensive then that is each person pregogative, however if the content of the article is sound, and the majority of the sysops believe that the removal of an article would be against the best interests of Lostpedia, then deleting an article based on title alone is nothing short of foolhardy. An acceptable replacement title, which summises the genre point being made hasn't been found, and until that point the article does not warrant any major aleration.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  17:03, 23 May 2007 (PDT)

1) If sysops didn't take an opinion in such matters then no maintenance would ever get done. 2) Not true, I did take into account the opinions of of the community when I closed the discussion as "no consensus". The discussion had been open for some time and it was going nowhere. At least six other sysops agreed that it should be kept, but considering there there was a substantial number of editors that favored deletion the outcome was "no consensus". 3) The deletion banner was removed on 5/10 and I only archived the old discussion today since the page was very long and there was another current discussion regarding the renaming of the page. Nothing was hidden. The banner on the top of the page clearly states the results of previous deletion nominations and refers users to previous discussions on the matter. 4) Deletion/Merge/etc has always been done in this manner and the Job List stating it as a "vote" was incorrect. It has been updated. The reason it's not a vote per se is because we carefully examine the opinions of other editors and they are also weighed against the person making the contribution and whether or not they actually give reasons for their recommendation. A user that has recently registered and makes a comment of only "delete" with their signature does not have much bearing into the final decision.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 17:16, 23 May 2007 (PDT)

Dharmatel4, I don't believe it was unethical of Jabberwock to come to the conclusion "No Consensus", just because he endorsed it. I have absolutely no doubt that he would have deleted it even if he personally disagreed with it, had there been a clear consensus in his opinion. If you believe that sysops should *never* make a final decision in articles that they comment on, then let's discuss as a potential policy for Lostpedia. Do you believe this has been a problem with other articles? --Admin 17:37, 23 May 2007 (PDT)

New Theory - Please add to template

I have just created a "Black Hole" theory. I'm not sure under which heading it might go, but it is duly supported by numerous allusions to A Brief History of Time, and it actually fits fairly well. Please add it to the template that includes all fan theories thus far. - NINguy711

The Flame(printable page) problem

Hello, The printable page of "The flame" just prints a blank page with the flame written on it i printed out several other pages and they worked but "the flame" page did not work. Just wanted to let you know. Sorry if this is the wrong place. Lostfan815 22:14, 30 May 2007 (PDT)lostfan815

My Image

My image won't show on this page. What's wrong? -Some Person 14:02, 31 May 2007 (PDT)

Pictures

I see that most, if not all, pictures here are screenshots from TV broadcasts. I was wondering if that's because you have some predilection for those, for whatever reason. However, if there's no established rule concerning images, I could easily, though slowly, replace them with high quality DVD screenshots. --AlexAx 17:41, 6 July 2007 (PDT)

Many of our screenshots are from high-quality DVDs, especially S1 and S2. --Blueeagleislander 21:10, 6 July 2007 (PDT)

SysOps on the Spanish Lostpedia

Hi, man!

I'm Calick, from the Spanish Lostpedia, and one of its more important editors.

These last months our wiki has experienced a rebirth and a high increase of its numbers of articles thanks to me and other members who have taken the new control of our wiki. However, we have not complete control, because we are not SysOps (the original administrators probably were gone, leaving the page abandoned, or maybe they never existed...).

What I'm asking to you, is there any way to become and Admin based on the qualities a SysOp must have, no matter that I am from another Lostpedia? We have no idea how to become an Admin or a SysOp, and we need to take control of some activities, specially against some recent vandalism actions. I know I haven't done as much as you and sure here I wouldn't deserve the right of what I'm asking for, but the Spanish Lostpedia is smaller by the time, and I've done a huge work as an editor and controller.

Please, if you can help me and my partners, we'll be very grateful to you.

Bye!

Calick

Spanish Sysops

Hi, man!

My name (well, my geek name, lol) is Calick, and I am a high-rank editor in the Spanish Lostpedia.

Today in Lost History

On the main page, Today in Lost History, is behind a day. Not sure if this falls under your "jurisdiction", but it seems logical to tell you. As I type this, it's 11:23 PM in US Central time zone, meaning nowhere in the world is on the day Sept. 29 (either Sept. 30 or Oct. 1), but today in Lost History is displaying events from Sept. 29. Thought you should know so you can fix it. David 21:29, 30 September 2007 (PDT)

you are my hero!

thanks for creating this awsome site! DOWN WITH BOB!(even though he is already down lol) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gollum lover (talkcontribs) .

Request

Hello. I'm a contributor of the French version of Lostpedia and I just found an extension that would ne nice for every version of Lostpedia : [2]. It would allow to make images clickable and going to an other page than image description. Images maps could also be used for World locations. If you could install this extension it would be very great. As a last word, it seems that it dosn't work in a template so there is some possible patches : [3] (it should also correct <gallery> in templates I think). Best regards. Problem with FORMATNUM

There's a problem with the FORMATNUM magic word on Wanted Pages at the Dutch Lostpedia, see nl.lostpedia.com/wiki/Speciaal:Wantedpages. I guess it has to be used as FORMATNUM: instead of FORMATNUM| but I don't know how or where to change it. Riki 13:51, 8 January 2008 (PST) (admin on the Dutch Lostpedia).

Russian Part of Lostpedia

Hi! I am from Russia! Many people in my country love "Lost". But there is no Russian Part in Lostpedia. Please make the Russian Part of Lostpedia. ;) Plazik 11:14, 12 February 2008 (PST)

I agree with Plazik. I thk we should translate the original Lostpedia into Russian Language because many Russians want to know more about Lost but they do not know English. Langly 22:29, 12 February 2008 (PST)

Problems with templates on the german lostpedia

Hello,

I'm one of the Admins of the german lostpedia. We have some problems with templates, if there are to many of them, they're shown as links (for example: template:ep instead of "Left Behind"). You can see it here or here. Can you help us? -- Clark Taylor 04:45, 5 March 2008 (PST)

  • I'm sorry, but the problem we have, is still there and I have no idea, were it came from. Could it be, that some settings in DefaultSetting.php (or some non-settings in the LocalSettings.php file) averting more than 40 templates per page? (Somewhere in this file I found this: $wgMaxTemplateDepth=40, could it be the reason) -- Clark Taylor 13:18, 30 March 2008 (PDT)
    • I found the problem, our {{ep|...}} template was to big. So ... forget it.

Next time on lost

I saw the "Next time on lost" box on the main page. I belive it needs to be updated (On 3/13/08 it says that LOST airs tomorrow, instead of today.) Hey, there's a huge problem going on around with the images. Each new image uploaded can't have it's thumbnail, there's some kind of error message like the site can't create a thumbnail from the picture or something.
