Favorite Ten Episodes
1. "Walkabout"
Locke's fantastic first flashback established him as an all-important character on the show, creating a mystery to him that would make him my favorite character on the show. The unexplained miracle that occurs defines the show beyond a simple "cast-away" series, into a whole new realm.
2. "Live Together, Die Alone"
Desmond, being one of the most well received and enjoyable characters on the show, deserved his own episode. Not only did this season finale delivered, it offered such fantastic insight into what was happening within the hatch that I was literally on the edge of my seat. The new mysteries were more shocking than usual, and the hope for a good pay-off still lingers from after the episode.
3. "Pilot, Part 1"
Like a punch in the face, the pilot episode of Lost takes no time to slowly pull you into the fantasy of the island, it instead thrusts you into the adventure in one of the most elaborate sets ever made for TV. It is shocking and riveting and after watching it, there is no way you can say no to more.
4. "Deus Ex Machina"
Deus Ex Machina gave us more of that hatch goodness as it showed more of the mysterious surface we're dying to find out more about. This episodes great flashback proves that Locke is the king of flashbacks with an unforgettable situation. The final scene showing Locke's torn emotions and a light being emitted from the hatch is ultimately satisfying.
5. "Orientation"
Another Locke episode, another great episode. Orientation didn't just perfectly develop Locke's backstory and show his raw anger, it gave us our first eye-popping glimpse of what the hell is going on on this island.
6. "One of Them"
This episode's title was not only a clear indicator of an outsider within Sayid's own past, but a later revelation that the survivors' new prisoner is also "one of them". A smart title for a smart episode, this episode revealed Inman for the first time, as well as the insanely tricky and strangely likable character Ben, at that time known as Henry Gale. This episode also gave a shocking first glimpse of what happens if the button is not pushed.
7. "Lockdown"
Locke definetely dominates my favorite episodes, Lockdown shows a great amount of trust between Locke and Henry and the strange mystery revealed to Locke is the type of "wtf" moment we've come to expect and love from his episodes. The episode title's double meaning is cool also.
8. "Man of Science, Man of Faith"
Finally discovering what is in the hatch. Need I say more? Everyone was dying to know, and when we found out, it was shocking and brilliant all at once. Who would have expected it? The coincidence of Jack and Desmonds past and present meetings threw a really unique thrill our way, and I loved it.
9. "Do No Harm"
Boone accepts his fate and Claire has her baby. Two moments that have been led up to, two moments that have incredible importance to the survivors. These two moments couldn't have been handled better, what could have been too much for a single episode were handled with great care and conviction. Both events were emotional climaxes and helped develop one of Jack's better episodes.
10. "A Tale of Two Cities"
The same trick is used at the beginning of this episode as last season and it works all over again. The first glimpse of the Others' village is interesting and the different perspective of the plane's crash offered more clarity to the crash. This episode gave us A LOT of information about The Others we did not previously had and paved a very clear road of where the season was headed, like it or not.
