Some people say that the twists in this plots were obvious, however I completely disagree. It's interesting that I had complete faith in the 'hostiles' to go through with their threats; this is why I was sure that Jin, Sayid and Bernard were dead.
However I also trust Desmond's flashes, so I knew it was likely that for a season finale, Charlie wouldn't still be running from death, and he would in fact brace it as a hero, as he did. The use of placing the audience in the mind of Charlie as we discovered that Penny had nothing to do with Naomi. And the realisation on his face was the realisation running through the audience's mind.I felt stupid for coming to trust her (at first I had suspicions that she might have been a hostile). Now it could easily be true that the Oceanic survivors were not found at all. But what use is it making up such a thing? Fooling them into thinking they're in hell? But Charlie has had contact with Penny so we know that it cannot be hell.
Ben and Locke had the island's best interests at heart and in the back of my mind I hope that Desmond might be able to get back to the beach and radio Jack to tell him, I guess it still might happen.
I thought of Penny's russian, chess playing team, who apparently found something. Is it possible that Naomi's team found them while looking for the island to exploit it's powers and infiltrated them, taking their identities as having been recruited by Penny Widmore? Thus explaining how Naomi got the photograph of Desmond and Penny.
The hope of being rescued was lost with me ages ago, upon first watching Lost in the first season I wanted them to be rescued, as they did. However as the secrets of the island began to be unfured I realised that there are much more interesting things to explore. This is why, I guess, it matters very little that we now know that Kate and Jack cannot die. It was obvious from the beginning that somehow the survivors that are left will eventually be rescued. It is about the island and all it's secrets, and yes, we've seen the finish line but getting there is the fun anyway. We now know that it will take Jack untill he is off the island before he realises that he was happiest there. And that his normal life was just a lie - "i'm sick of lying!" Kate's tears made it look like she still had feelings for him and Jack was so unbelievably troubled it told me that in showing something so powerful they have opened a tin of possibilities, we know the outcome and now they have left us desperate for the details.
All in all, I loved the 'flash forward.' Seeing Jack with the new motorola phone made me believe it to be a continuity error, and I couldn't understand why Jack definately looked older, thus shown by juxtaposing him with a beard to him looking fresh faced and alert on the island. Yet somehow I didn't piece it together, because I didn't believe the writers to be so daring. But now we know the kind of tricks they can pull. Looking back on it after having the knowledge that it was in fact a flash forward as opposed to flashback made me look at the funeral scene and in my opinion I think it must have been Locke. He looked genuinely upset and I don't think he would have been if it was Ben or anyone else that was "neither" a friend or family.
The Season 4 premiere should give some insight, why Mikhail refuses to die, how Locke was suddenly healthy again after having the unexpected help of a very pubescent Walt, how they could get rescued if these people are "bad guys" and will Desmond deliver the ill-fated message in time?!! --Peppergirl 16:44, 28 May 2007 (PDT)
