Yeah, go on special pages and at the bottom there's a few new superpowers. For espionage, enter either an IP or a username and it gives you the other - so e.g. helps to track vandals and see if a new one is the same as a previous one etc. Also, on recent changes, you'll notice the ban ability. And then on any article you can now protect em, move em, or delete em, at will. Have fun, --Nickb123 (Talk) 07:54, 22 October 2006 (PDT)

Good Article
Hi Pandora. I have a question, do we have a template or nomination page for "Good Articles" that we can use, as in Wikipedia, to award a well written / rewritten article ?
I do not know if such a regulation is added in the new comm. portal or elsewhere on Lostpedia...
Thanks-- 14:52, 31 October 2006 (PST)
- Thanks for your prompt response. I actually had in mind another idea. AOTW is used for nominations of articles indeed, but only those which are accepted , if not of a repeated theme, are the ones that pass a minimum quality criteria. Even so, every now and then, one might weekly reject an article for being good but still requiring more work.
- Now with the Article Attack great addition, we still have the problem of after attacking it, how can you define if it is improved enough or still in need of more work ? An award is given to who tackles the most, but I understand that this would appointed after the article is done...so the question is, when can we say it is done? Although the Admins / Sysops can clearly do that job easily, but shouldn't the quality of the article be a nomination as well ?
- So if we are not going to nominate every article we re-write, to check the opinions on if it reached the required quality or not (which I imagine would flood the AOTW page), then I think we will need an intermediate check point. For example, I had the following thoughts:
- First, we nominate articles for Article Attack, every week.
- After accepting articles for attacking, and editors feel they are done with the rework. They nominate it as Good Article (maybe in a new nomination page, or a sub-section from Article Attack).
- Also articles that didn't undergo an article attack, but anyone feel it is of a good quality, can be nominated as well (which we can start right now).
- Then, after denoting articles as Good, nominations for AOTW shall be done only to those in of the pool of good articles. Thus, the rejected articles would be on the basis of needing to do little more improvements, and start from scratch.
- Through this example or similar ones, I think we can achieve 2 points with one shot.. First, we find a way to determine when an article is done with the rewriting. Secondly, we will have the privilege of a large existing stock of good or almost good articles to chose from for the AOTW.
- Lots of thoughts, but let me know what you think :)
P.S. for all who view this, please post your replies in my talk page, not to use up Pandora's space, and to Pandora: I'm really sorry that I filled up you page like that in posting my idea -- 15:20, 31 October 2006 (PST)

Hi
I'm a brazilian sysop from the pt Lostpedia, and I saw that you are a major sysop here, with great influence. =]. And I want to kwon from where did you take that the last name of Rose and Bernard is Nadler? Can you answer me? thanks.
Ok
I didn't know that you are a new sysop, because I was seeing that you restructure tha page of flashbacks characters and I love how it remain. =]. I'm responsible for update this page in our (brazilians) lostpedia, and I'm always here to see if you change something. =] How can you see, my english is very bad, but I love Lost so much, that a translate many articles in pt lostpedia and then I turned a sysop. But that's ok, thank you for your kindness. =]
Need your openion
Last favor to ask for (today), but since you are sooo helpfull, and an Admin, I couldn't help myself:)
I was passing around the following question, last to Santa:
- As you know I've been rewriting Sayid's page for a while now, and I would like to wrap it up well, now that I'm moving on to other pages and only return to add new events. Recently, I felt that some details are mentioned on Sayid's skills, displayed on The Island, yet many are missing, so I added a new Skills section, in which I added all the data in bullets. But now I feel the page is getting too large. I have also changed today the Name and Faith sections, from bullets to paragraphs, yet I still feel too much bullets are around and the page look a little hard for the reading eye. So I wanted your openion on what's best to do:
- -Keep the section as is, in bullets ?
- -Change the section to paragraphs ?
- -Delete the section, and spread its details within the On the Island sections?
- Though I feel that this is not very adequate, since then I would be like enforcing details about his skills in the narrative part, which I feel akward about it.
- -Delete the section, and spread its details within the On the Island sections?
- -Create a new page, naming it: "Sayid's Skills", much like Jackface, and link to it ?
- I actully like this option, yet don't want to create a duplicate page for no reason.
- -Create a new page, naming it: "Sayid's Skills", much like Jackface, and link to it ?
I greatly appreciate your openion (whenever you can), specially that I don't want to create a page, and have it deleted as happened to me today with another topic. Thanks a lot-- 17:01, 31 October 2006 (PST)
- Thank you so much (most helpfull indeed). I agree with your point on posting it for discussion, which I will do first thing tomorrow, as now I gotta slap my anal editor head and get some sleep, since i'm currently in Egypt, and it's now 3:30 AM here :))

Jumpsuit line removal
Hi Pandora. I don't understand why you think the line you removed about Desmond also wearing a DHARMA jumpsuit doesn't support or refute a theory. [1] Someone comments that he may just be pushing the button like Desmond, and the comment (which admittedly I made) then says, Desmond also wore one of these jump suits when we first met him. Which suggests patchyman may also be taking part in the experiments. I'm not upset that you removed it or anything, I'm just curious to know why you don't think it supports the original suggestion? -- Plkrtn talk contribs email 04:18, 3 November 2006 (PST)

Redemption evidence
Hi, great work..you're really bringing it back to life :)
Regarding the Jack Bender remark, I do not think our friend who posted it was very right..I searched over google like 5 times, and every time I get back the following Amazon customer review of Lost - The Complete First Season (2004), by someone called javaman, which includes an explicit "redemption and rebirth" sentance. So if javaman is not Jack Bender, I think we should remove it, and I think we currently have enough evidence to spare it confidently. What do you think ? -- 18:32, 7 November 2006 (PST)
- Great, and I will also try to check around for the sentence you mentioned-- 18:40, 7 November 2006 (PST)
- I'm also removing my "keeping page" reationale from the talk page, after you moved it to the main and added to it. It is better this way to keep it as a living evidence rather than expectations. I'll just leave the votes-- 18:45, 7 November 2006 (PST)
- Seriously, I am getting more amazed Pandora by your insight all the time, and I'm kinda glad to be talking to someone on this level of thinking...Inspiring! :)-- 19:02, 7 November 2006 (PST)
- Hey, regarding Bender's remark, I kinda didn't know how to remove it while leaveing that of Lindlof intact. I think it would be better if you orgainze it, specially if you can explictly link to the reference at the poadcast. I've also found another interview reference that might be of some use, check it out below in the article-- 19:42, 7 November 2006 (PST)

Template:Books
Hi PandoraX, I looked at Template:Books, and I think there is a small problem with it that prevents the "V"/"T"/"E" links at the top-right from working. The simple solution is to rename the template to: "Template:Nav-Books". The problem is that the parent template (Template:Nav-Template) is assuming that the name of the template starts with "Template:Nav-", and this particular template does not include "Nav-" in its name. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Otherwise, the template looks awesome :).--Dagg 06:27, 8 November 2006 (PST)

- In such cases, you can also find the name by looking in the user creation log --> [2]. - What's the rationale, btw, of blocking these names? I was only aware of LostpediaKing being blocked, and I thought this was because he had a name that might give off the impression he was running lostpedia, such as choosing a name like "SysOp". Otherwise, I wasn't aware of this general rule until marik pointed it out. There really needs to be a written rule, so that users will know ahead of time, most are likely just innocent mistakes. --PandoraX 10:28, 8 November 2006 (PST)
- The rationale is just as you say, a "Lostpedia" name suggests you are in a position of power. As a consequence, we just made the rule of no Lostpedia usernames full stop. And I think its written somewhere - its probably my imagination but I remember reading/writing it somewhere --Nickb123 (Talk) 10:50, 8 November 2006 (PST)
- I checked Lostpedia:General usage guide, and didn't see it anywhere; this should probably be an important point on top. Also, as Cheers mentioned, are their IPs automatically blocked? I assume that IPs are automatically blocked when we ban people, but never asked about this. Obviously, this would not be desirable for a name block. --PandoraX 11:06, 8 November 2006 (PST)
- No usually IPs are not auto-blocked. However, I think MediaWiki does do an autoblock if say I block the same IP three times - it'll autoblock on the basis of this. In this way, they are perma-blocked, but sometimes they have software that makes IPs alternate. In this case, Admin has a special doo-hickey power that sorts that out (only to be used if the vandal is seriously bad) --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:09, 8 November 2006 (PST)
- Added a paragraph on usernames under the general usage guide. Regards, --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:28, 8 November 2006 (PST)
weird naming thing
Hi, I uploaded a picture for my user page, and I think I broke it. The original file was called bear&boat.jpg. I don't think the wiki likes the & character in the filename, because it won't look at the image. I re-uploaded it with a different name, and that helped, but the broken one is still in there. If you can find it, could you delete it? Thanks! -BearDog 17:24, 8 November 2006 (PST)

Hey Pan quick note. Someone is asking you a question on Talk:Blackrock.nl island maps about why two of the pics were removed. I'm pretty disinterested with that page in general, so I'll leave it to you :-) --Nickb123 (Talk) 07:22, 10 November 2006 (PST)

Sounds like a good idea, done. The previous alphabetization bugged me as well :). --Dagg 16:18, 10 November 2006 (PST)
Regarding the Objects navigation template, I love it :). I went ahead and added a[[Desmond]] & [[Penelope]], and I think it should do what you wanted.--Dagg 10:38, 11 November 2006 (PST)
Timing
Hi again. I'm still a little new to wiki'in , as this is the first one I've ever contributed to, and I'm just a little curious about the democratic processes involved. Once a vote has been taken on something (for example, the current theories vote), how long does one leave the polls open, before we start implementing? It's not really a big deal, I'm just curious to see how it works. -BearDog 18:04, 10 November 2006 (PST)
Re:Arabic
Hi Pandora. Regarding the graffiti on the left, it exactly translates to "Please God keep our leader Saddam safe" (It was actually a common thing to find praising of Saddam almost everywhere on Iraqi military walls, as I heard).
For Inman's song, I have to check it well on the DVD and get back to you. Maybe by tomorrow max.
It's totally fine for me to help with anything related to Arabic or Islam, It comes actually easier to me than other aspects of editing, given that I am a native speaker, so please do not hesitate to ask or double check with me on anything. Regards- 09:06, 11 November 2006 (PST)
- I've just skipped this scene of "One of Them" on the DVD to check it, since the image you sent me has it in a very awkward angle that you can't really tell what it means. Now this is funny, the one on the right exactly translates to : " Adli's Barbershop for Men" (Adli is the name of the shop's owner)! It is probably a label for a barbershop on the military premises. Heh :) I actually see how your guy might get confused, given the angle of the screencap, since "Men" in Arabic is written in very similar letters to "Leaving" ..but I'm afraid my translation is most probably correct. -- 09:32, 11 November 2006 (PST)
- Hey Pandora, I found that Kelvin was signing (in a very unrecognizable Arabic accent) the old Iraqi National Anthem! You can verify that yourself through this U tube link: [3] (Don't mind the comments there), where you'd find the exact part you hear him signing repeated a number of times in the anthem. I can provide you with a translation of the lyrics as well if you like, though I think it is of no significance to the storyline (the guy was probably just remising). Re:Template
I honestly didn't know you were also doing it, as you can read from my userpage I love "items" articles and saw that template and thought "oohh thats nice, it'll increase traffic if I add it to the bottom of each one" and then just started. I didn't notice your recent changes comment til about half way through hehe. I've removed a couple from it, if thats ok like ones already under drugs, cause having two navs on one page is a bit much. However, I've left two under Bible cause that is one which I see as an exception due to it containing a video piece etc --Nickb123 (Talk) 10:45, 11 November 2006 (PST)
Quick note, sometimes when you upload pics they're done as JPG - it shouldnt be "problematic", just when you're writing in the formula for an article, just make sure you put the right case and it should still work- sorry nvm I realise you figured that, at any rate yeah it sometimes happens, particularly if you do it through Microsoft Paint, but it isn't a glitch persa --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:26, 11 November 2006 (PST)- Oh I see, sorry. - Hehe, actually I was just thinking "god that girl is gonna think I have a crush or somethin' the amount I message and mither her" lol. But yes I completely agree, rivalries is much better quality, and "fights" is rather ambiguous, and more often than not the fights actually have deeper wider arcing meanings as you state, and so I would say it should be a redirect yeah, with any significant mention added to the rivals article --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:41, 11 November 2006 (PST)

Aquarium page?
Thanks for renaming Cages, and for the tip on "The" usage! I was wondering what you thought of adding a separate page for the Hydra's Aquarium? There's a page for the intercom that seems a little stubby, and it might be helpful to put info on the intercom under "Aquarium" instead of possibly bloating The Hydra.--The Swan 12:43, 11 November 2006 (PST)

I can make out words round there like "facility", "subterrainian" (both over the water-like bit at 1 o'clock, and a date - 10/28/84. Isn't that mentioned elsewhere on the map concerning the incident - it could be the incident date? Religions and ideologies
Hi Pandora. Since I'm growing quite attached to the Religions page lately, I thought today that it would make a great AOTW, specially if you...."maybe, possibly, might ever" consider my little suggestion to turn it from the bullets structure into paragraphs...it might be far fetched, but I think it would really give it a higher chance at being a great read for eyerone...what do you say ?
Ah, and I forgot to thank you for your complements on Sayid's, actually lost of credit is also due to Nickb123, who did an excellent job yesterday. Given that you might like that article, it is actually nominated for an AOTW at the moment, possibly to be featured in 2 weeks after a majority of votes is collected. "this was only a hint ;)". Regards-- 06:59, 12 November 2006 (PST)
- Hey, heh, there seems to be a little misunderstanding either from my side or yours, but I didn't really get the last bit in what you said. I was talking about two separate matters:
- first, about the religions page, that I wanted to check with you if we can collaborate together in turning into paragraphs, before nominating it, since I don't feel it will win lots of votes now being bulleted (of course that's my openion as you said). That was clearly replied, as you mentined that you don't like it for the article.
- secondly, I was talking about Sayid's article, which was the one I mentioned Nickb123 was interested into, or to be more accurate, desrves credit for getting it to be as good as you commentd. Then I ended this note by hinting that you might vote for Sayid's if you wanted to for an AOTW in 2 weeks.
- If I'm not mistaken, you were talking about Nick's interest in the Religions page, right..I don't know, I'm confused. Heh :)-- 07:14, 12 November 2006 (PST)
Ok, obviously it was all from my side, since you just voted :) So getting back to religions, so let me understand what you said at the end. Do you mean we should post the change to paragraphs as a voting suggestion in the article's talk page for example ?-- 07:19, 12 November 2006 (PST)
- Done! and it was fun searching for your replys all over my page:) (nevermind, I know how busy you must be)-- 07:42, 12 November 2006 (PST)

- Since I know you have some opinions toward theories I was wondering how you felt about a rewrite of the policy. I've started one here. -- Paladine<c.t> 16:28, 12 November 2006 (PST)

Brief Q
Hey sorry to bother ya Pan, just saw you're active and wanted a second opinion. Someone keeps adding on The Cost of Living article that Eko whispers to John before his death "I saw the devil". I've removed it twice now and it keeps getting re-added. Did you by any chance notice it? --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:56, 16 November 2006 (PST)
- Yeah, I think I'll stick it under the theories tab, and if it gets re-added I shall leave a note for the user. The synopsis I think should be complete canon and encyclopaedic content. Thanks for the reply. Oh and if you get bored, check this out Category:Episode Levels. Question
I dont understand why you rolled back my edit to Psychology. Patchy was not in the Pearl, nor was he in the Swan. He is clearly in a different station, which proves that the Pearl can display video from the Swan as well as another station. The current version of Psychology states that the Pearl is involved in an experiment to monitor "subjects" in the Swan. We now know it isnt just the Swan.--Slugless 20:31, 16 November 2006 (PST)

Hi Pandora, I wanted to ask you something as a Sysop..What is the protocol followed, when you find that someone has copy/pasted the exact design of your user page, without even notifying you? Of course Wikis are free for all, and I personally encourage the cooperation between the users in reaching better standards for article pages' layout, for example..but user pages is quite a different matter, since it is supposed to uniquely represent you to some extent. I also believe that when you are inspired by someone, you should make some of your won modifications, out of courtesy, and maybe indicate your inspiration by a little link, to pay respect to the original creator, like I did pointing to Nickb123 on one of my subpages User:Nomad/about me, although I was only remotely using some parts of his free design tips and not copying his own page. I have to say it is a bit frustrating, after some hours of work to reach a unique design, that I come a little than a week after to find it copied like that! Please advise. Regards -- 11:01, 20 November 2006 (PST)
- Its definitely an annoyance, and if a user is warned and continues to edit the site without changing their userpage, I would agree with enforcement personally. I agree with you that a note should be added, but realistically we shouldn't need to write it in the rulebook as its simple Wiki netiquette. However, I guess putting it is good to just express the point to the oblivious --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:38, 20 November 2006 (PST)
- Thanks for your prompt response, and for your confirmation. To reply your question, I'm sorry to say the copier is Obi-Dan Kenobi. Please use the following links to verify that:
- After spending more than two weeks of redesigning, I have reached the front page design you would find here, on the 18th of November as you can verify through its history list.
- Next day, at exactly 02:28, 19 November 2006 from his history list, and after a week of declaring that his user page is under creation, right after I started to change mine, he simply copied my exact design in a new front page, only changing the label names and the center image (which at first was of the same exact dimensions like mine), which he later reduced.
- Before that, right after I started to create my subpages, I've noticed just after creating a Contributions page, he created a "Contributions" page too. I didn't make a note about it then since I thought: "great, people are building on my new style, which is always cool".
- To be honest, I had always respected Obi-Dan Kenobi's significant work in Lostpedia, which started months before I even came here. That is why I was both sorry and shocked at his actions !
- I don't know about posting a note at his talk page..with this intentional copying, I'm not sure how his reaction will be. What do you think ?-- 13:39, 20 November 2006 (PST)
- Like I wrote in Nomad's page, I'm really sorry for what I did. I didn't know that Nomad created this format for a user page - I thought it's a common design for a user page. I erased my user page, and I will work on my own design. I just wanted to say that I didn't mean to harm anyone, and I'm not that kind of person. Again, I'm really sorry. Obi-Dan Kenobi 13:56, 20 November 2006 (PST)
- As per Dan's note above and my reply at his talk page, I can gladly confirm that things are all sorted now and the kids can go home and work on what's more important :) Thanks to all of you for helping in solving this so quickly. Now learning from my own story, all what I can do is strongly suggest to add this, maybe even as a highlighted note and not a rule, on our rulebook, given the increasing number of added users by the second..It's up to you Sysops. Thanks again -- 14:30, 20 November 2006 (PST)
- Thanks for everyone who chimed in about this... a lot of user-user problems in online communities tend to be misunderstandings and not malicious, and can be solved by open communication first. Glad we got this one resolved, Obi is a good guy and probably didn't realize there was an issue. So yeah, I figured it's not really an enforceable "rule", though it is netiquette, so I just added it to the Help:User pages page that it's a "General Guideline" and "not kosher". --PandoraX 14:39, 20 November 2006 (PST)

Cubit
Hii Pandora, how've you been ? I finally made it to Cubit today, pretty neat! It comes pretty handy in my rewrite of Religions. I also came at Eastern Religions. The site says if you have any correction...etc. So instead of routing my message to you there through whatever in between levels, I thought to write you my correction here: "After getting together with two of my Arabic-speaker Lost-fans friends, we confirmed that the label on the wall Does not read: Allah forgive the one who is leaving, but: Adli's barbershop for men" :) Heh..I made my tedious note, and will go back now to my hectic religions task. Regards :) -- 17:17, 25 November 2006 (PST)
- Hmmm..this is probably gonna be long:) Regarding how certain I am, I can confirm that I'm absolutely positive of this translation, based on my level of Arabic knowledge. Regarding the reasons to why would they write such a petty graffiti, lets divide and conquer this point:
- 1st, this is not a graffiti, it is very common in Arabic nations, and others from third world, to write advertisements for shops on the walls, since it is cheaper than making a sign. This I confirm, since I saw myself.
- 2nd, to the unfamiliar eye, Arabic looks a bit like a horizontal Chinese, which makes it looks like graffiti, though it is not.
- 3rd, you should also consider they might not have filmed this scene in a set specially built for it, given the huge construction required, and may have went to a friendly Arab nation, like Kuwait or Dubai, and filmed it there at an empty construction that resembles an army premises, which may really be just a regular neighborhood, then added CGI details to the bckgnd later. Thus, the label may have already been there.
- 4th, in case this was painted intentionally, it could be based on an erroneous advice from their language consultants, who could come up with the idea that in addition to the line on the right wall praising their leader, a military barbershop Ad. would make the place look more real.
- To verify it yourself, lets also divide the written phrase. I'll break it to you in its three words, to use each in searching over any engine, or a dictionary and check for its meaning. You can validate if each is what appears in the scene. Just remember that Arabic is read from right to left:
- 1. First word to the far right ---> صالون , means: "Salon"; French word also used in Arabic to denote a high-quality barber shop (which makes me believe more the theory of "already there label")
- 2. Second word to the far left (the one that appears clearly when Sam Austen is going down the stairs and leading Sayid) ---> عدلى , means: "Adli"; a male name with no alternative interpretation.
- 3. Third word, the one down at the middle ---> للرجال , means: "For Men"; again with alternative interpretation.
- 4. Putting all the words together, it becomes: "Salon Adli For Men" , and given the way the Arabic works, interpreted as: "Adli's Salon for men".
- That's all. Again, this is just a note (that I'm absolutely sure of), and it's up to you to decide:)-- 18:07, 25 November 2006 (PST)
- Useful links:
- Try using Sakhr's Multilingual dictionary for words 1 & 2 (Salon & For men). Copy in the Arabic word from here, and search with the English-Arabic option selected, to find the English translation. If you
