The Hierarchy of The Others

I was just wondering why you deleted the hierarchy of the others page....I was in the process of bettering it. Thanks, 10panichellia 15:49, 5 March 2007 (PST)

Jigsaw Puzzle #4

Hey, "un Vis Classique" means a Classical Screw, and some have theorized it refers to "A Turn of the Screw" but I don't want to put that on the page because it might not be correct. Although an online translator did translate it for me, it is French. .-- Poppin' Fresh

My friend is a French translator, and her first though was that it meant the classical path. I also work with a native french person, so I will as her tomorrow.-- Poppin' Fresh

Yes! My puzzle #4 arrived 2 days ago. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to start on it.--Iagomonk 12:13, 22 February 2007 (PST)

Hey, could you add the transcription I just did to the Nav please? Thanks. --lewisg 05:14, 1 February 2007 (PST)

That Guy

That guy (his username is hard to remember, but you know who I'm talking about) deleted stuff from his talk page earlier, do I have the right (as a regular user) to put what he deleted back on his talk page? --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 09:52, 1 February 2007 (PST)

He just did it again. I agree with you though. Although there's stuff I would like to delete off of my talk page, I can't and neither should he --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 09:57, 1 February 2007 (PST)

First off, don't feel bad for the IP mix up. I logged on at a friend's house to show him my account and later that day he just played a joke on me. Plus it forced my to do constructive edits to prove my innocence :). I know what an archive is and how to make them, but I'l wait for my talk page to get a little bit bigger before I do that. Thanks for your help. --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 10:16, 1 February 2007 (PST)

Podcasts

Hey! On the podcast talk page I added a section whereby people can reserve a podcast to transcribe. My reasons for doing so are on that page. Just wondering if I am allowed to do that, or whether it should have been left to a SysOp to decide? I know that makes little sense... basically, am I taking authority I don't have? Gah, I'm confusing myself!!!! :P --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  10:18, 1 February 2007 (PST)

  • Awesome. How bout we do it in five minute chunks? I.e. you do five, transcribe and post, I do five, and so on and so on... makes it easier for me.. Is that alright? -   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  11:17, 1 February 2007 (PST)
  • Agreed, Im pissed right now though, as I started then my comp crashed. It's put me off it for the night, I'll start tomorrow, if that's alright? Feel free to start though, and do as much as you want :) --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  11:21, 1 February 2007 (PST)

Dear transcript God..

hey does the "no wiki links" thing apply for all transcripts? 'Cos Silvastorm rewikified the Final Episode one. you know what the policy says, what do u think? --lewisg 16:10, 2 February 2007 (PST)

Aw no your kidding?? Will be a huge shame for you to leave :( But yeah I have no problem with the transcripting lark :) --lewisg 02:08, 3 February 2007 (PST)

Re: CD was debunked

Sorry Pandora, I thought he made it clear that the CD was just in the wrong case. Never mind, I think they must've changed the song at the last moment as he said in the podcast. Also, what was this about me creating spoiler articles? --SilvaStorm

Thanks for understanding. I...uh...understand about the spoiler articles, it's just that I remember there were pages for Cages, etc. before A Tale of Two Cities aired, so I thought it wouldn't matter. --SilvaStorm

What do the rules say about this?

  • User:SMJ signed up today. All he has done is edit the Lost Moments page. After looking at his edits, he has changed quite a few of the Youtube links. Although they are still the same clips they appear to all be posted by one Youtube user, "Save me Jeebs" (SMJ) so it appears he is just changing the lost moments videos to those hosted on his youtube account. I have already changed one back as it was worse than the one that was already there. Just curious as to what the rules are on this? He hasn't made any other productive edits, and someone mentioned us on the talk of one of the videos before he signed up so it appears he just wants more people to view them on his account for whatever reason (not sure how youtube works exactly like that). Just thought I would let someone know. -Mr.Leaf 17:22, 2 February 2007 (PST)

P.S. Moments #1, 9, 11, 12, 13, (10 but I changed it back) if your wondering.-Mr.Leaf 17:26, 2 February 2007 (PST)

Games

Is there a reason you just hit the revert button rather than reincorporating what you liked about the previous revision? The page was live for a week, and I didn't see any complaints. I am changing it back.-- Dagg talk contribs4 8 19:48, 2 February 2007 (PST)

  • You said: "The thing is, Dagg, you make a lot of major changes to articles without any kind of discussion."
    • Response: I didn't see any complaints. You reverted the change without any kind of discussion after it was live for a week.
  • You said: "You can see where you changed the page for animals, and it basically reverted back to the more complex form, because people naturally want to know more about every individual reference."
    • Response: The Animals page was not whole-sale reverted at the click of a sysop's button... it is evolving by the community:
      • It started out like this before I touched it: [1]. That old version of the Animals page is subcategorized way too much, and it has no pictures, and there is way too much white space, etc.
      • I experimented with several formats, and I ended up changing it to a simple list.
      • And now, because of the Article Attack, it is growing to show the data in several ways:
        • The full list of occurrences are shown in a simple table, rather than the original 25 sub-sections.
        • ... and most importantly, it is starting to actually explain why Animals is considered a theme.
    • This evolution of the Animals page is a good thing. The page has definitely not reverted to what it looked like before.-- Dagg talk contribs4 8 20:49, 2 February 2007 (PST)
      • If you disagree with something, then please add a note on the discussion page and ask for consensus. Please do not whole-sale revert the changes made to an article simply because you have a difference in opinion. Lostpedia is really turning me off lately with 1. Sysops reverting changes that are non-vandalism, and are not against any rules and 2. some sysops saying they are "pissed off" (you didn't use those words, a different sysop did) that they weren't consulted about certain changes, and 3. tons and tons of pages getting permanently protected without anyone tracking why they were protected. Some users, such as myself, are becoming afraid to make any changes for fear of pissing off a sysop. I guess I'll be subservient to all the sysops if that is what it takes to make changes on this site. Please give my changes a chance. -- Dagg talk contribs4 8 21:43, 2 February 2007 (PST)
        • You said: At any rate, that's just my opinion, and I'm willing to look for some sort of compromise
          • I'm willing to change the page to look like Animals, because I think it is a good compromise between a nearly 100% flat list and full-scale section boxes. I think, though, that I should wait a bit until the Animal article attack is over. I want to make sure that the majority likes the new style. However, can I make anymore changes to the Games page, or should I wait to get input from people like Senor Eko and Peephole who aren't around to give their opinions at this time? Can you point out the changes of theirs that I erased so I can reincorporate them? I didn't mean to erase anything, except for the long descriptions about the games that seemed inappropriate (I seem to remember you also making this judgement about non-Lost content in the past, and I see again that you agree). I did leave in relevant descriptions such as this about Mouse Trap: The mechanism of the trap evokes the trebuchet that he later used to try to open the window pane of the Swan station. The game can also be interpreted as a metaphor for the trap set up by Locke's father to steal Locke's kidney.
          • BTW, I have a lot of patience, but I also like being bold. My overall goal was to update all the themes pages to have the same look and feel. I made the changes slowly at first, and I attempted to incorporate people's opinions as they came up. However, for the most part, I only got praise for my changes, so I became bolder and changed more pages a bit quicker. I take offense that you think I have changed these pages indiscriminantly, and that you think I have ignored the opinion you gave me about Rebirth, etc. I have not changed a single page to a simple list since you gave your feedback.-- Dagg talk contribs4 8 08:18, 3 February 2007 (PST)

Podcast Page

Hey again, sorry to bother you but just wanted to get your opinion on something. Somebody made a template for fan questions on the podcast (here), and I attempted to implement it on a page. Here is my idea of how the page will look with the template. What are your honest thoughts? Also, a couple more queries:

1) Can Enter 77 be added to the Season 3 Nav? It was confirmed here.

2) Similarly, can Enter 77 be added to the Season 3 page?

3) Finally, "Tricia Tanaka Is Dead" can be confirmed as a Hurley flashback; the writers said it was in the October 30th podcast.

Thanks a bunch, and sorry to bother you again --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  00:11, 4 February 2007 (PST)

  • OKeydokey, fair enough. :) I have sort of caught the podcast transcribing bug and do plan on doing some more when I get round to it. :) The only thing is, Lost is back on wednesday in the US (Hoorah for you guys) but us Brits have to wait till Sunday. Thus, between Weds and Sun, I won't be on Lostpedia so I don't get spoiled. All that equals less Lostpedia time for me, which makes me sad :( OK, ramble over :D --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  05:43, 4 February 2007 (PST)
  • You bet I have! LOL I did that for a lot of S2 and some of S3.. but hey, it's only four days... it won't kill me.. I have other things to occupy my mind :) --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  05:56, 4 February 2007 (PST)
  • Okeydokey, no problemo :) Oh, and another question: Is every theories page supposed to have {{theorytabtop}} on it, even if it has no text? Or do we just leave the no text ones blank? --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  06:02, 4 February 2007 (PST)
  • Alrighty, thanks a bunch, Pandora! I might do a bit more transcribing in a bit... how long did your chunk take you? --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  06:05, 4 February 2007 (PST)

Categories, sorting

Good question about the categories. I read through the docs, and I don't see a way to automatically sort them as you requested. There is an interesting new feature called {{DEFAULTSORT:}}, and that could be useful, but would still require a lot of articles to be edited.-- Dagg talk contribs4 8 11:47, 6 February 2007 (PST)

Hey Pan. It seems you know Magnolia from somewhere else. I was wondering if you still speak to her. Re: S2 Lost: On Location

Hi Pandora, I did create that page with the intent to transcribe it myself, but now that I am really busy, I couldn't find the time to do it. That's why I nomd it so someone else would be able to instead. Sorry for the inconvienience. --SilvaStorm

Mittelos translation

I got that by using Alta Vista babel fish translator, from German to English. Not the most reliable translator, but the fact that it yielded something, I thought was significant. My roommate speaks German, and said she hadn't heard of the word, but it came up through a translator so... And I qualified my entry by adding "Some online translators say.." to it.

irc link

Yeah the irc URL was ok. It's the irc:// protocol rather than http://. However, if you don't have an IRC client installed, or a IRC plugin (like Chatzilla), then your browser will not be able to use it. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 01:25, 14 February 2007 (PST)

Last Man Standing

Grammar

Thanks for changing the tense on Flashes Before Your Eyes. In your edit summary, however, you noted that the s in sings does not belong. I'm sorry, but "The lyrics that Charlie sing" is simply not correct grammar. I know lyrics is a plural word, but sing does not describe the action of the lyrics, it describes Charlie's actions. If it were in the present tense, it should in fact read "The lyrics that Charlie sings" — but I guess that it's kind of a moot point now that it's in the past tense. :) - RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:38, 14 February 2007 (PST)

Lost-Media policy

  • Wondering what the policy is regarding using the Lost-Media screenshots. Their usage seems to indicate it's ok as long as there's attribution and the whole gallery isn't copied but cropping would delete their watermark. I've also seen it suggested that it's okay to use them as long as they are flagged for later replacement. Any ideas? THe image usage page wasn't informative. Thanks! --Jackdavinci

Lostbook

It seems to be working perfectly for me now... did Justin and Kevin add some new fixes? How does it look for you? --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:01, 16 February 2007 (PST)

I just thought it was weird that yesterday I on IE7 saw exactly what you saw even with Justin's changes, but now its suddenly alright. Maybe its cause yesterday I was on a widescreen laptop and am now on a PC? Pfft who knows, I'll let the experts figure it out :) --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:08, 16 February 2007 (PST)
My reasoning is just that they are direct gaps in knowledge. I don't care as much about the Paulo and Nikki thing (its assumed they just went back), but the John and Sayid thing there's a direct gap. Its like Kate and Sawyer saying they're going to the statue and then arriving back at camp. There's a question regarding what happened. John directly said they were going somewhere and started heading North I think. That's why I think it should stay as there is a big discrepancy --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:23, 16 February 2007 (PST)

Yes I know we have those templates already. I'm just giving them a new design. What I was asking is how do you like the new design?--Mr.hanso 11:33, 19 February 2007 (PST)

kitsis/horowitz

From my memory of it, I'm pretty sure that is Kitsis, because in that DVD extra (which was floating around youtube at the time), Adam Horowitz was sitting next to him on the left. And Horowitz is the guy with the glasses, since his photo (with award statue) is from his brother's blog (both urls are referenced on AH's article). Let me know if there still seems to be a contradiction. I think I remember the wrong photo being formerly up on one of the crew articles, and it very well may have been one of these two. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 21:01, 19 February 2007 (PST)

anthony coopers

we add the third earl of shaftesbury because drawing parallels between characters and philosophers or literary works is good and well for absolute and direct comparisons, but these kinds of allusions can be just as productive by contrast - it tells us just as much about Locke's father to say that the first earl has parallels as a patron or benefactor of the historical Locke as it does to say that the first earl's grandson, who was also a philosopher, as well as having the same name, offers in his own philosophical work, points of contrast.

that's one of the things that i take issue with in the lostpedia treatment of literary, philosophical, and religious allusions. david hume is not desmond david hume. david hume's relationship to desmond, just for example, nor any of these others, are one-to-one correspondences, nor do they have to be. otherwise, rousseau wouldn't be a disaffected and asocial french woman, but a genevan man with a powdered wig. allusions are allusions because they offer useful, richer, and more complex views of characters, situations, and philosophical currents of thought than one-to-one correspondences could ever offer.

that there are two anthony coopers (both related) that were restoration and early eighteenth-century philosophers should not be seen as confusing or contradictory, but give us a deeper understanding of who these characters are as well as what they aren't by virtue of the historical figures after whom they are named.

to deny that contrasts don't offer us as much as direct comparisons is to limit the interpretive meanings inherent in the show's broad historical, religious, social, political, and organizational (and so on, to say nothing of the way these facets interact with each other) thematics.

like the last guy who took out Edward Said completely, saying that he had nothing to do with philosophy, we have to be careful of completely denying the myriad ways of meaning that this show offers.

plus, as a scholar of eighteenth century philosophy and literature, i believe i have some qualifications or justifications to say that the third earl of shaftesbury was the more immediate point of reference to me (specifically as a contrast) than was the first earl when Locke's father's name was first revealed. please don't think i'm trying to be snippy - i just want the lostpedia - at least the philosophy section, to be mindful that philosophy itself is built upon openness of discussions and debates.

RE: Dharmacakra reference 3x07

I could have swore I posted a comment and image reference. Please refer to this screen capture. The painting above Rachel's bed looks at first like a sun...but is also the Dharmacakra symbol. It appears there is the symbols for Capricorn and Aquarius as well. I apologize for the revert...again I thought you received my comment and when I did not hear back thought it was good to go. Re:Brit/Scot

Yeah he kinda is lol, its quite a grey area in my opinion hehe. Its like saying a Canadian is American, its technically true but hardly anyone says it. If you are from the United Kingdom, which encompasses England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - then you are classed as British I would say. However, most within this would refer to themselves as English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish etc. Its not really something many people think about nor care much about though, and I wouldn't have thought anything wrong off-hand of your "British/Scottish" edit to be honest. --Nickb123 (Talk) 08:13, 23 February 2007 (PST)

Lol yeah well its a good question, but yes let's not debate it - I'm sure you saw the heated Canadian-American row --Nickb123 (Talk) 08:30, 23 February 2007 (PST)
Gotta interject. If you're from England, Scotland or Wales ur British. If you're from Northern Ireland, you're Irish. :) -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  12:28, 5 March 2007 (PST)

Rule page?

Hey Pan, I was just wondering if there is a page where users can suggest a general rule (like Ryan is doing with swearing) and users can vote if they'd like to accept or reject the proposal? If not, do you think it would be a good idea to have one? It would keep things like the swearing business from turning into arguments (theoretically ;) ) --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 10:14, 23 February 2007 (PST)

Okay no problem :) was just wondering for that Ryan guy, not because I want to argue about the swearing thing. --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 16:44, 23 February 2007 (PST)

Jigsaw translation

Maybe we could get someone who speaks the language (french?) to translate for us.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 17:20, 23 February 2007 (PST)

À mon humble avis, cela n'aidera guère.  :) -- Cheers 18:24, 23 February 2007 (PST)
I was only saying that I don't think that speaking French will help much. Even if we assume that the clue is supposed to be in "French", the wording does not seem to have an immediately obvious meaning. I think the problem is not so much one of translation, it is more of finding what the clue is about in the mind of the people who wrote it. They may have tried to translate it approximately from English into something else, but what is important is probably what they intended to write in English. -- Cheers 19:26, 23 February 2007 (PST)
About the "vis" part, well, at first sight, "un vis" doesn't seem to make sense. If, as some people suggested, that is supposed to mean "a screw", then the gender is wrong, because "vis" is feminine. So, either it is supposed to mean something different or whoever wrote it didn't care about writing correctly. If it means something else, what can it be? I don't know. Could "vis" be an acronym? If it means "screw" despite the mistake, then what is "a classic screw"? -- Cheers 20:19, 23 February 2007 (PST)
Like your friend, I thought about the possibility of Old French for explaining the masculine gender, although I doubt the puzzlemakers would use that. Anyway, in Old (before 1340) or Middle (before 1611) French, vis could mean "face" (visage in modern French) or "opinion" (avis in modern French). However, I can't see how that would help us find a book with chapters and verses. By the way, vers refers specifically to poetry. A conventional division of scripture, which is also rendered by the word "verse" in English, would be verset in French. Then again, the puzzlemakers may not have realized the difference between the two words when they were trying to translate "verse". So it's difficult to decide if the use of vers is a clue or a mistake for verset. -- Cheers 05:24, 24 February 2007 (PST)

Podcasts

Hey just to let you know ive finished another transcript. Got a lot of coursework over the next few days though so it "might" be a week or so before I start a new one :) --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 03:56, 24 February 2007 (PST)

lostbook images

Hey did you make those images? If so you've done a fantastic job with them! --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 11:33, 24 February 2007 (PST)

Yah, they are awesome, is it okay if other users submit some for consideration? --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 11:34, 24 February 2007 (PST)

Also, should we make a catergory for Lostbook images? --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 11:41, 24 February 2007 (PST)

There is a category for them already. The base image is by plkrtn and I think Pan has been creating some more. Pan, by the way, you don't need to put the full URL in for the pic. It's better to just use the shortened path starting with /images.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 12:00, 24 February 2007 (PST)

Jigsaw puzzles mystery (Un vis Classique, Chapitre et Vers)

[...] I caught your msg on Plk's talk page... and was wondering if you had any thoughts on Jigsaw puzzles, a mystery where we now have a reference to "Un vis Classique, Chapitre et Vers". The vis part doesn't make much sense in French, and was wondering if you had any thoughts or ideas on what book it refers to? Thanks and take care! --PandoraX 13:12, 24 February 2007 (PST)

  • Heum... Actually I haven't any thoughts on the reference "Un vis Classique, Chapitre et Vers". But I'm now baffled and if I come up with some clues I won't forget to keep you informed. --Gregcybergal 06:05, 25 February 2007 (PST)

Just checked em all out. Love em! Especially those skylines - really pretty. Have we worked out when we'd use them? --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:24, 25 February 2007 (PST)

I don't think its anything at Lostpedia's end. I'm guessing it might be something to do with your setup. Possibly. Have you tried using a decent browser? :-D -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  04:09, 26 February 2007 (PST)

Pics

Hey, regarding the pictures. Most of them are promotional pictures that I cropped, like Hurley golfing or talking to Jack. I used the same ratio you used on Klugh's image for Hurley and Sawyer's image. Could you please tell me what is the images’ right ratio, so I wouldn't do it again? Obi-Dan Kenobi 18:40, 27 February 2007 (PST)

No idea why.. When I press the talk-page button it links me to my talk-page. Could you actually delete my contributions page, as I don't use it anymore. Back to the pictures, where in Photoshop you find the "constrain proportions"? Obi-Dan Kenobi 16:26, 28 February 2007 (PST)
I just checked, and I don't have this option on Photoshop, probably because I'm using the 7th version. Obi-Dan Kenobi 18:34, 28 February 2007 (PST)

Jigsaw #2

Pandora, the image in the puzzle in the lower left hand corner right above Goodwin being stabbed is not a picture of Locke and the Hatch. It is a picture of Goodwin above a dead body (presumably an Other). On close inspection (of puzzle, not necessarily image on Lostpedia due to glare of photo) of the puzzle, you can make out that it is Goodwin. Then, you can see he is holding a torch, and that he is standing over a body, lying on the ground. So, no the image is not of the Hatch (that wouldn't really make sense in the puzzle anyway, although the 'Respect' sign doesn't either).

P.S.--Sorry if my tone isn't portrayed well, I sometimes come off as being snotty, I don't mean to be. Thanks, for your concern, David 19:18, 6 March 2007 (PST)

  • I changed some content of my post on this page, because I just inspected it after I typed the comment, and some of my info was wrong--but now it's right. Same general idea, jsut different object Nathan was standing over. David 19:23, 6 March 2007 (PST)

Nav etc.
