Musings
There's a bunch of Lost sites I do follow, but I tend to stay away from discussion threads other than the talk pages of Lostpedia articles just because I already spend so much time looking at other information resources and writing articles. Although I had to take Par Avion "off" because of real life work load, I usually try to write the first in depth episode synopsis each week. And I also usually try to transcribe the podcast. I also try to collate easter eggs, enhance things like maps, and step in to rewrite things as NPOV if there is an edit war (like the 'unidentified line DHARMA logo').
I also come from a somewhat meta view. There's a lot of times when people will argue about some specific point when it's clear that the argument stems from a lack of clear general policy. In those cases I think it's better to just make the general policy clear in which case the specific issue will disappear. Also related to the meta issue, I'd like to see all pages that are of a generic type (main character articles, episode article, location article, etc) have a link to a template and style policy for that type of article. I'd also like to see a banner on the article for the newest episode every week that links the the templates for the major types of related articles.
I also have a strong view about collaboration versus conflict. There are times when people that will just delete things when I feel it's better to correct them. Generally if something appears in the wiki it's not totally random. Maybe it's better suited as a theory in which case I think it's better to move it to the theory page rather than just delete it all together. Sometimes something isn't written quite properly in which case I think it's better to fix the wording than delete it. Sometimes there's a conflict about something in which case it's best to just note what the controversy is and state the facts that we know in relation to them. Just deleting things outright has the disadvantages of 1) disrespecting the original editor 2) possibly losing important information 3) risks the information just appearing again or an edit war. I also think that in the cases where it is appropriate to just delete something, an edit summary should always be used so the person knows the reasoning.
Anyway I guess that's where my mindset is at :-)
Lost Links
I noticed that Lost Links has gone. I thought some of it's links might still be useful so I'm mirroing it here.
To Do
- clean up supply drop versus dharma food vs stashes vs other food (inlclude userpage food)
- references portal... better categories to include things like nicknames and Nadia gymnast
- translations
- some timeline things similar to http://lost.cubit.net/timeline.php with the confirmed dates, plus justification for other dates
- better map/geo data
- pictures, posters, and art in lost (include Mr Paik island photo) - already precedent with Joshua Tree
