The wise man once said, "The devil is in the details." Frankly, I find it difficult to believe that the writers of the show are devils - despite the trickle pace of answers to our Big Questions - but they do so love hiding their secrets in details so fine they frequently escape notice. LOST, one of my true pastimes and passions, truly is a conspiracy of details...
So, I try to advance different ideas, hypotheses based in reasonable fact, that tie together some of the more...eclectic details.

Details Sought
Who knows? They may be significant:
1. Exterior screencaps of The Looking Glass.
2. What is on Horace's medallion?
3. What is written on the label on the innoculation gun's load bottle during Ben's and Roger's registration at the DI site? Is it our "CR 4-81516-23 42" vaccine?
4. What is the stuff that makes up the apparent Circle around Jacob's cabin?
5. What was the content of the DHARMA Initiative logo on young Ben's school notebook?
6. Good comparative photos of Olivia's rifle and Rosseau's.
My own wacko hypotheses
1. The DHARMA v. Hostiles battle was more over industrial secrets and espionage than anything else. Consider the involvement of the cheerful Mr. Alpert. Mittelos Bioscience was making a hostile ploy to seize research from the DHARMA Life Extension Project for profit.
LOSTDAQ
My ongoing stock rating of our Losties and Others, with explanations in three sentences or less.
A note from the LOSTDAQ Exchange: Welcome to the new season of trading on the LOSTDAQ! We continue to calculate stock changes of our group of Lostaways based on actions, behaviors, and attitudes, and look forward to a lively (albeit truncated) trading season!
- Week In Brief -- Recent Event: Beginning of the End
Trading this week was unusually modest for a season opener, with few stocks advancing or declining by significant amounts. Often, season openers are characterised by serious changes in market standing, so it is somewhat unusual to see stocks jostle a little, but otherwise not do much. Still, there have been some changes...
- Top Stock: Hurley (43.3) Second week
- Biggest Gain: Rosseau (+3.2)
- Biggest Loss: Jack (-1.1)
- Bottom Stock: Ben (7.1) Eighth week
- IPO Stocks: Karl (34.0), Alex (30.0)
- Delisted Stocks: Tom
Hurley : 43.3, -0.4 : Typically, if your best friend comes back from the other side to tell you something, it's probably going to be pretty important. At the same time, it's obvious that his brush with Jacob has not left him in the best place. So, Hugo slips just a little bit this week.
Jack : 42.0, -1.1 : This week saw Jack make his worst mistake yet, and it's going to cost lots of people in a big way if the flashforwards are what they appear to be. By failing to listen to important information - not to mention Charlie's dying warning - he has placed the entire group in mortal peril...peril which, apparently, kills all but six. He's become blind to everything but what he wants, and that will cost him this week in the trading: Jack's stock dips a point plus.
Charlie : 41.9, +2.5 : Evidently, you can't keep a good man down. Charlie's stock, thought closed, is still running as he wends his way through his post-demise appearances. You'd think, being on another plane of existence, Charlie would have a few things he'd want to do, but what is he trying? To warn his best friend. Bonus points for the ultra-direct "proof of presence" approach.
Desmond : 38.6, 0.0 : No movement in Desmond's stock this week. First, we didn't hear much from our favorite Scot, so there were no major events to fuel a significant rise or fall. His handling of the Charlie situation earned him some bonus points, but he quickly lost them again when he quavered during the argument over Charlie's last message. If he believed Charlie, then why did he stay? Desmond stays steady for the first week of trading in the new season.
Jin : 37.0, 0.0 : Not much to say about Jin this week, so his stock will stand pat.
Sayid : 35.2, +0.5 : Sayid sees a modest increase during this first week of trading on his wise advise on both communications security and options for the future. Sayid has always been a steady performer, and although he had the opportunity for larger gains this week, he still walks away higher than he began.
Karl : 34.0, IPO : Karl has done a lot of good for the survivors, from delivering a timely warning to joining them in their cause for escape. So, Karl's IPO with the LOSTDAQ is a very healthy 34. Good luck, kid. You're going to need it.
Bernard : 31.5, +2.0 : Bernard proves once again that he's a better husband than he is a warrior. His willingness to go against his better judgement for his wife earns him a two point rise.
Rosseau : 30.2, +3.2 : No love for "daddy" from the real mommy. Rousseau takes the opportunity to put the boot in a few times on Ben…who, honestly, deserves it. But she's also bright enough to listen when trouble is coming - and do what is necessary. Rosseau's stock bounds up the leaderboard.
Alex : 30.0, IPO : Another stock with an IPO to start the season, Alex comes onto the market with a solid 30. She has been very helpful to our lostaways over the last several (mis)adventures, but she seems to be regressing into a very introverted non-contributor. Anybody could forgive the kid for being shell-shocked, and we have, too. Welcome to the market, and may you have a good run.
Rose : 29.7, +0.3 : Conflicting goals end up troubling Rose for this week's trading. While we would traditionally back anybody for not listening to Locke - he's been extremely unreliable and, frankly, dangerous as of late - following a leader blinded to facts is not much better. Still, Jack is not the spree killer Locke has lately been, so you can't fault a survival instinct.
Claire : 25.5, +2.1 : Poor Claire. It's been a rough road. She's kicked the whining habit, proven herself a good mother, and now the one guy she cares about is gone. She earns an admirable increase this week for a few reasons. First, she accepted the bad news about as well as anybody could. Second, she did not start immediately blaming others or asking why Desmond survived while Charlie didn't - which the Old Claire would have done. And third, it's part pity points. Plus, she even made a slightly self-deprecating joke about having babies. Claire moves up, tied with an unexpected rally.
Sawyer : 25.5, +0.8 : Sawyer's stock rallies a bit this week on news of both his acceptance of the Charlie Message, and an uncharacteristically community-minded move. While it would have been easier and, probably, safer, to strike out alone following the warning, he joined the expedition to the Radio Tower to warn the group. Sawyer gets a 0.8 kudo.
Sun : 27.6, +0.2 : Another Sun-rise this week. It's a modest gain, perhaps, but she shows once again what a great woman she is.
Juliet : 24.9, 0.0 : The market has reopened for the new season…and there's nary a twitch from Juliet. This is surprising, but we'll take it in stride.
Locke : 23.3, +0.5 : Locke rallies a little - but not much. He seems as though he might have the group's welfare at heart, but it's difficult to tell with Locke. His stocks take a modest, very cautious, increase. Instability in the Locke stock in the past prevents any major gains without demonstrative proof, and investors are still cautious that Locke may be the cause, not the cure, for whatever kills much of the group.
Kate : 19.2, -0.4 : Stock in Kate sinks a little lower on this, the first week of trading in the new season. She has regrettably continued her whining about the world, and has been breaking down into tears far too often. It's a rough world - as if 90+ days on the island wasn't enough proof of that - and she needs to, in Sawyer's immortal words, cowboy up. A lot.
Mikhail : 13.6, 0.0 : Despite the apparent demise of Mikhail (and many hopes to that effect), his stock has not yet been delisted; the crafty Ukrainian has cheated death at least three times by our count, so we're not certain he's completely out of the picture…yet.
Richard : 11.2, 0.0 : No news means no movement.
Ben : 7.7, +0.6 : Ben stock sees its first rally in a very long time. Yes, he's still the same jerk he's always been, but for the first week at least, he's being a normal, non-psychopathic human. He even earned a bonus tenth for twitting Jack while he was being a self-absorbed idiot.
Jacob: PRIVATE : Jacob is still sitting on the sidelines, and investors are puzzled. Jacob seems to have some very definite views as to what is going on at the Island, and he has shown that he has some definite likes and dislikes. But his curious lack of action on the Island - and suspected interference in Hurley's post-rescue life - teamed with his apparent new avatar has investors nervously wondering: just what is the Jacob Agenda? No IPO yet, but we're watching...
People I Miss
Boone, one of the great explorers and a bright guy.
Shannon, who was getting to be a useful member of the group, and was very pleasant.
Libby, the one person who was truly nice to Hugo, and was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Mr. Eko ... it's hard to sum Eko up. He's one of those people that you really wish you personally knew. Well, after the whole warlord thing was over, anyway.
Charlie Pace, who, although he started off being someone relatively unlikable, really grew to be a great young man. It seems a shame that he died - his death, at least apparently, should have been avoidable - but he gave his life admirably.
People I Don't Miss
Michael, the murderous self-centered psycho of the island. Good riddance to you.
Ana-Lucia, the other murderous psycho, who shot our beloved Shannon and was a general-purpose pain in the paw until her untimely demise.
