A tree frog was featured in one episode of Lost. Tree frogs are frogs of the Hylidae family, and despite its name, some tree frog species may be found living on the ground or in water, as well as in trees. Some variants produce a particularly loud mating call.

Appearances

In "One of Them", Sawyer heard a frog whose croak was so loud it drove him to hunt it down. Hurley attempted to persuade Sawyer to take the frog to a nearby beach where it would not disturb anyone. Instead, Sawyer crushed the frog to death in his hand. He then joked to the distraught Hurley that he had "...heard with a little bit of ranch they taste just like chicken."

Although the characters refer to the frog as a "tree frog" (a member of the Hylidae Family) the actual species of the frog is [Dendrobates auratus][1], which is a member of the Dendrobatidae Family, the Poison Dart Frog Family. D. auratus is native to Central America but has been introduced in Hawaii where Lost is filmed.

His killing of the tree frog contrasts with his earlier animal-encounter with the wild boar-- after he caught up to the boar that had been tormenting him, he unexpectedly spared its life, contrary to his original plan. ("Outlaws")
