Purpose
As a decoy
- The fact that the entire village outside was abandoned, not just empty, but cleared of all of its contents, means both the door and the village are just meant to keep up the charade of the Others.
- Likely given the subsequent revelation that it was a "decoy village". The Others thought that their village would be more credible if it had its own DHARMA station.
- The fake Door is a copy of the hatch of a real station or The Door may still be a hatch/station on the Island, just not at the location of the camp. The Hatch doors may have been scavenged from another station entrance.
- Could possibly be from the underwater lab that the producers have hinted at in the past.
- That's the Looking Glass.
- Could possibly be from the underwater lab that the producers have hinted at in the past.
- The Others set up the fake hatch door as extra bait for the Losties, having noticed their curiosity about the Swan and Pearl. Hearing about another hatch would encourage the Losties to make a visit.
- It is unlikely it is mentioned on the Blast Door Map as it is such a far distance away for a Swan member (Radzinsky or Kelvin) to travel.
As a real Dharma Initiative station
- The Door was an attempt by the DHARMA Initiative to control the Island's teleportation abilities; it may be how the polar bear got off the island.
- In the Swan, there is concrete poured over a door that hides the electromagnetic noise. The Others poured concrete over the entrance to hide another mystery of the Island.
- They thought it would keep the monster locked up.
- The door is some type of housing/control system for the monster but during/after the incident, it collapsed, so now the monster runs amuck on the island, ergo the need for a sonic fence.
- The rock behind The Door is a façade and there is a way to get past it.
- This is supported by the fact that Sayid never actually touched the rock wall. He merely looked at it and shut the doors again. If he were to press on it he would find it was a less solid material than rock and he could enter.
- There is something similar to a "Garage door opener", a remote control that opens/removes the façade so you can enter and use the station.
- This seems smart, to make the hostiles think that the station was useless.

- The Door is a parapsychological station.
- Very possible. One of the purposes of the DHARMA Initiative stated by Dr. Marvin Candle in the Swan Orientation Film was parapsychology. So The Door may actually be used for remote viewing. Visually, you can't see what's inside, but perhaps some people can "see" inside the station with their mind.
- The Door is a psychological research station. The rock wall is an experiment, and there is some way to get past it. For example, it serves a similar purpose to the blast doors inside The Swan. In fact, they are blast doors that are made of rock, or built to look like it.
- The fact that there were guards outside the door was a part of the experimentation going on inside.
- The Doors do not even lead to a station, but are part of an experiment being conducted from a totally different location/station.
- This is where the other captives are being held and/or home to where the "tests" that Walt spoke of happen.
- That was the Hydra.
- This is where the other captives are being held and/or home to where the "tests" that Walt spoke of happen.
- The cave behind the door was used as a supply shed or storage facility for the DHARMA Initiative, and was emptied after The Purge.
- The cave served as a kind of prison for the initiative.
- The Door was once used as a kind of Pandora's Box experiment. A DHARMA team were told that they had to guard 'The Door' but must never open it. At one point the guards’ curiosity got the better of them and they opened the door. When they discovered there was nothing inside they realized that they were part of an experiment and abandoned it. The Others used the same tactic to trick Michael into believing The Door was important.
- The Door is an entrance to an actual station that has caved in, or was intentionally filled in with earth by for reasons unknown, such as the Incident.
- The Door is the site of the Radio Tower. The rock formation located above The Door is long and narrow, much like a radio antenna. In addition, the name of the station is a metaphor, because the radio acts as a "Door" to the outside world. Hanso mentions in the Sri Lanka Video that the radio broadcasts its signal in a secret frequency, but selected staff on the Island were able to contact DHARMA's overseers using it while the Initiative was still active.
- From what is seen when Michael arrives at the camp, the rock formation above seems to have a hole in the middle... If someone were to climb there, and see through, the view might reveal the Radio Tower, or another island at the bearing of 325.
- The surface behind the doors looks more like concrete or masonry/stone wall rather than natural occurring stone face. It was sealed off by those who abandoned the camp.
- Most of the other main stations have had escape hatches, so The Door also has one.
- The Door is something like the wall in The Swan that seems to attract metal objects and might be meant to keep something out, or in.
- It was not the wall that was attracting metal in The Swan. It was electromagnetic energy, behind the wall.
- As its name suggests, The Door is actually just meant as a door. Its purpose is as an access route to the Barracks, avoiding the Security Perimeter. This is supported by the fact that the Others must have some way to get around the sonic barrier as it is unlikely that they carried Ben over the structure in his stretcher in the same fashion that Locke, Sayid and Kate did in "Par Avion"
- The sonic fence is able to be turned off as Juliet did with Kate to get away from the Monster in "Left Behind"
- Further on this, it is an exit from one of the subterranean conduits mentioned on the blast door map.
- The sonic fence is able to be turned off as Juliet did with Kate to get away from the Monster in "Left Behind"
- The village itself is the station.
- It was an unfinished DHARMA station.
- This seems unlikely since in a typical construction site the doors etc. would be installed near the end of the construction. If it really was an unfinished station at early stages, then there would have been no need for the placement of the doors on the Dharma Initiative's behalf.
- This is "the room" referenced by Ms. Klugh to Walt in "Three Minutes." Only special people, like Walt, can access the "room" that is behind the door, and Walt was in the room while it was being guarded by the armed Others. What goes on in there and what it accesses is yet to be revealed, but Walt's ability to access and manipulate things in the room is what exceeded Ben's expectations, and because of this, Juliet wants to see Walt off of the island (as mentioned in "The Deal"), because he could be coerced and used by the real bad guys (The Freighties?) to do their bidding. This also is where Anthony Cooper was found.
- The room Bea Klugh was referring to was room 23 and the writers have said the others kidnapped Anthony.
- The Others filled the station with concrete after they abandoned the village.
As The Magic Box
- The rock wall covering the entrance is what Sayid wanted to see and wasn't actually real.
- Sayid never actually touched the rock wall covering.
- The station was guarded by two armed men in the episode "Three Minutes"
- In order to keep with the 'fake village' ploy for Michael
- The rock wall was to keep things from getting out of the Magic Box that the Others might be afraid of.
- Ben tells Locke that he can take him to the Magic Box and that the Magic Box is large (such is being in the side of a cliff?).
- It is drawn on the blast door map but is scribbled out because they don't want people to find the Magic Box.
- Can bring people from the past/future, people such as Christian Shephard.
- Christian has not been proven living, nor was he found anywhere near The Door (White Rabbit)
- The Smoke Monster "scans" peoples by sequence of stimuli and reports back to The Door station in order to make their deep wantings and desires a reality.
- Does the Smoke Monster in fact have anything to do with The Dharma Initiative at all? If so, why does it still continue functioning long after The Purge?
- The Door logo is shaped like a box
On the Blast Door Map
- Possible candidates for its location on the blast door map are the "C3?", the C4?", the crossed out station, and the "ABORTED [station] #7".
- Could be the scribbled out station on the Blast Door Map, drawn when it was discovered by Radzinsky or Kelvin, but was found not to be a station and was subsequently crossed out.
- The people from Jack's campsite refer to the shore where Michael is supposedly leading them as the "North". If you look from the map, the scratched out hatch is North of Swan.
