Talk:Mythical character archetypes on Lost

What should be done with this sort of article

This article amounts to analysis from a POV of the show rather than encyclopedic information. The same problem in my opinion exists with the economics article. The content isn't bad, but I think we need to somehow seperate the encyclopedic information about the show from individual analysis of the show. Dharmatel4 15:09, 19 March 2008 (PDT)

I agree--on Wikipedia this would be called "original research." Unlike Wikipedia, though, Lostpedia need not necessarily make such a thing taboo--but it should be distinguished from factual content sourced from the canon. Is there some sort of template banner already created to top articles like this one? "Fanon Alert" isn't quite right... Robert K S (talk) 20:41, 19 March 2008 (PDT)
  • LP is different from WP in that it does indeed allow original research, for example on various storyline analysis article (e.g. leadership, symbolism, etc. or events cataloging such as ARG like the various articles concerning The Lost Experience). That said, the argument for the existence of this article is that mythical archetypes are "Writing 101", and ALL of the writers for Lost surely know about it, and it is essentially an architecture for constructing a storyline or an individual episode. It's not just personal interpretation (although it may descend to that at times); of course it would be nicer to have someone directly associated with the writing staff (e.g. Damon, or Gregg Nations) to official comment on this. This stuff is as basic as "who is the main character", "who is the supporting character", and "which incidental characters move along plot line X"? It's very real, and not just POV as far as writers are concerned. BTW LP is indeed moving more toward encyclopedic content, for example in the recent move of theories OUT of the main article space into their own space, and the elimination of user-made parody Theory articles. This article is very different, and has the potential (it is not there yet, and neither is the article Archetypes) for absolutely clarifying the construction of the Lost storylines. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 20:48, 19 March 2008 (PDT)
