ARTICLE TASK LIST

  • Fill in the "Sources" column (where the song as played in the episode) for:
    1. Papa Loves Mambo (Fire + Water)
    2. Compared to What (Lockdown)
  • Identify songs in the Unidentified Song list, below. This is a task list for any interested editors. I took this from Lost-forum, but I noticed they they took some recent content from this Lostpedia article as well, so I don't mind =). This is verbatim from that thread:
Unidentified songs:
  1. "Do No Harm" (s01e20) - Melody played on the piano by Jack and Sarah. (time in episode 0:14:50)
  2. "Lockdown" (s02e17) - The country song that plays in Locke and Helen's house at the beginning of the episode.
  3. "S.O.S." (s02e19) - Music played on violins at the restaurant when Bernard propose to Rose. (time in episode 0:12:10)
  4. "The Man From Tallahassee" (s03e13) - Played on the piano by Jack. (time in episode 0:08:26)
Great list & can't see any duplicates. Note: No.8 is apparently called "Seashore" and is from a music library that does not make its tracks publicly available. See Gregg Nations at the Fuselage.--Kivipat

To ID

  • "S.O.S.", Song when Locke is sitting in front of the Swan computer trying to draw the map and then he wants to talk to Henry, but Ana-Lucia says the door stays closed. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 00:13, 10 April 2007 (PDT)
Great job Kiwipat, I haven't checked our Music to-do list in a while. I'll make a note to add it later, or you can do it yourself. Thanks for digging up the citation URL at the fuselage. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 22:40, 27 July 2007 (PDT)
Added this in the list above. / Dreamingtree72 10:52, 13 September 2007 (PDT)
Gregg Nations has confimed that this is an APM music library (ie. non-commercial) track called "Waltz Without Whispering" see [1] -- Kivipat

Man from tallahassee

  • "The Man From Tallahassee" (s03e13) - Played on the piano by Jack. (time in episode 0:08:26)

Does anyone know the tune Jack was playing on the piano??? If so, add it! --Puppyfury -- talk -- contributions 21:22, 24 March 2007 (PDT)

Don't know, but Damon & Carlton in the Official Lost Podcast/March 26, 2007 say it is an original composition written by Michael Giacchino, and Matthew Fox played it himself with no previous talent for piano playing--Kivipat
Yes, it has been confirmed from several sources that it was a original composition by Michael Giacchino... it might be the same song we heard him play earlier (See "Life Taken, Life Given" section, above on this page). At any rate, as an original composition, it doesn't belong in this table, unless we make a new section that refers to Giacchino songs that are not in the soundtracks. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 00:12, 10 April 2007 (PDT)
Is there any links to the sources saying this is a composition by Michael Giacchino? I have added this song to the task list until it can be confirmed that it's not a commercial song. / Dreamingtree72 13:45, 1 October 2007 (PDT)
Kiwipat linked to it three posts up. :p ^^ The Official Lost Podcast/March 26, 2007. -- Graft   talk   contributions  15:48, 1 October 2007 (PDT)
Sorry... I missed that link... ;-) / Dreamingtree72 09:59, 2 October 2007 (PDT)

Misc

Someone should add the song played in the (bear) cage when Sawyer successfully wins a fish biscuit. The name escapes me at the moment. --Brother 14:13, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

The name of the song is The Thunderer... Dreamingtree72 02:05, 12 September 2007 (PDT)
I love this list, makes me want to throw together and burn a couple of CDs. --Circeus 21:23, 25 January 2006 (PST)
Totally, but I don't get the point of just a random splatter of songs under "websites" at the end, that doesn't really have any structure to it, does it?!--Webbskinner 22:31, 16 May 2006 (PDT)

Layout

How come one section has title on lef tand artist on right, while the other is vice versa? Pretty dumb, but I can't b ebothered fixing it right now so can someone else do it? --Blue eagle islander 02:30, 22 August 2006 (PDT)

Rename

Shouldn't it be something like "List of Songs featured in Lost"? Music is more suited to soundtracks rather than the lyrical compositions mentioned in this article. --SilvaStorm

I'd remove the "List of". maybe do a redirect from Songs featured in LOST. -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  04:41, 14 October 2006 (PDT)
Yeah, that sounds more like it. --SilvaStorm
The renaming nomination tag is still up, but I believe it's been renamed?? --Brother 15:00, 21 October 2006 (PDT)

Songs in "The Lost Experience"

Should we add the music that was featured during the DJ Dan podcasts, or is everyone comfortable leaving it in the individual transcripts?--MightyRearranger 06:42, 25 November 2006 (PST)

For now, why don't you create a separate article: [[Songs featured in The Lost Experience]], and add this article to the See Also section, and vice versa.-- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T00:31, 6 December 2006 (PST)

My Conversation

Is the song My Conversation by Slim Smith or The Uniques? This article says Slim Smith. The Everybody Hates Hugo article lists The Uniques in the Trivia section. Slim Smith was a singer in The Uniques. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T00:31, 6 December 2006 (PST)

On the Season 2 DVD under "Subtitles for the Hearing Impaired" it comes up with only "Slim Smith - My Conversion". I guess the subtitlers would have been furnished an official playlist, so Slim Smith should be the primary credit. --Kivipat

Symbolism column

Okay, I've added a "symbolism" column for this article as per talk on the AOTW nomination page. However, I am a bit uncomfortable adding this in, as it smacks of theory, which belongs on a subpage. This might be marginally ok for an analytical article, but this article is not. In other words the rest of the table in the article is fact, whereas the symbolism is essentially speculation by the editors. For example what is the symbolism of Make Your Own Kind of Music? Is it that 1) Desmond lives alone by his own rules, or 2) The Island makes your thoughts come true a la Crichton's Sphere (Psychic Projection (theory)), or 3) it just dates the equipment to the 70s? Your thoughts? -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 02:37, 20 January 2007 (PST)

OK, so maybe you're right. I suppose this should belong on the theory page, as it is not fact, and, as you say, is speculation. So basically, I'm agreeing with you. --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  02:53, 20 January 2007 (PST)
Yep, its a good idea, but as it is speculation should be on theory page. Perhaps another table of sorts? -- Kivipat
I think through your excellent effort of adopting our tedious suggestion, and physically adding a symbolism column, you have indeed helped us see how our suggestion maybe entirely inapplicable without stepping inside the speculation zone. I strongly believe now that this article is better left as is, and with the guidance of the info already available for each song, people can still deduce the purpose the songs serve. Good work though in resolving this issue, Santa -- 15:43, 20 January 2007 (PST)

3x07

What is the music used in Karl's brainwashing room? -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 04:07, 8 February 2007 (PST)

Apparently it was a song composed by Michael Giacchino specifically for the show. As Gregg Nations comments here maybe it'll be on the third season soundtrack...Kivipat
Cool, thanks Kiwi. I was wondering about that. --PandoraX 21:22, 14 February 2007 (PST)

Expose

I really would like to know what song was played in the strip club when Nikki is dancing. Thanks. --Adril-22 13:31, 25 May 2007 (PDT)

As shown in the article this song is "Wreckx-N-Effect" with the band "Rump Shaker"

The Right Girl For Me

  • "S.O.S." (s02e19) - Music played on violins at the restaurant when Bernard propose to Rose. (time in episode 0:12:10)

The song played on the violins are the song "The Right Girl For Me"; Music by Roger Edens and lyrics by Adolph Green & Betty Comden. The song appears in the film "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and was interpreted by Frank Sinatra. I will add this song to the list later, but do I list the "artist" as "Roger Edens" or "Frank Sinatra (or maybe something else)? Can only find a recording of the Sinatra-version. Can't find the film and it's possible that it's Sinatra that sings the song in the film since he is starring in it. Any suggestions anyone? / Dreamingtree72 16:02, 24 September 2007 (PDT)

If we don't actually hear a recording of a song in the show, I think credit should go to the composer, if it is different from the performer most associated with the song. I suppose we could add a note "popularized by Frank Sinatra", or something like that. I haven't studied all the songs in the list, but I suspect that at least some of the recordings heard on the show are cover versions. Perhaps in those cases credit should additionally be given to the composer. -- Graft   talk   contributions  20:39, 24 September 2007 (PDT)
I have thought about it some more now, and I think the best thing would be to list the performer in the article. And if the composer is different than the performer we could add that to the article for that specific song. / Dreamingtree72 11:49, 25 September 2007 (PDT)
Added this song to the list / Dreamingtree72 06:10, 26 September 2007 (PDT)

Song No.32

Other sites are listing it as "I Feel Like Going Home" either by Muddy Waters or the Whitely Brothers. Anyone know for sure? --Kivipat19:02, 26 October 2006 (PDT)

From what I've seen and drawing from my average knowledge of blues history,I'm almost certain that the original song was Sykes' "Feel Like Blowin' My Horn" (recorded in 1970), but it was changed around over the years and Muddy Waters recorded it as "Feel Like Going Home" in 1997. Not too sure which version the episode featured though....--MightyRearranger 12:23, 30 October 2006 (PST)
Someone else has added the title as "I Feel Like Going Home" on Further Instructions#Cultural References. I have no idea which is right, I'm just pointing out the inconsistency between Songs featured in Lost and Further Instructions. --Dagg 12:39, 1 November 2006 (PST)
It's definitively "I feel like going home"... question remains if it is the original recording by Muddy Waters or the cover by Corey Harris. See the new headline ==I Feel Like Going Home== for further discussion about that! / Dreamingtree72 16:24, 27 September 2007 (PDT)

Audio Samples

Should we put links in the Music article to 30 second samples? We could upload them at WikiMedia. Heres an example: Shambala by Three Dog Night in "Tricia Tanaka Is Dead." Played on the DHARMA van's radio and also on young Hurley's radio at the beginning of the episode. Sample (Note, the link is not the website it would go to) -- Iron Man  Send a message  View contributions  11:06, 14 April 2007 (PDT)

That's a really good idea. I work as a sound designer so can certainly help with capturing and editing clips. However we'd potentially get into a massive copyright quagmire which I don't really see a way around. If this problem is solvable though, and there is a place to upload the files and a nice way to embed the clips, then it should certainly be done.--TechNic|talk|conts 17:27, 8 May 2007 (PDT)
Added this to the article task list. / Dreamingtree72 15:17, 6 October 2007 (PDT)
