New Lost Schedule

TV Guide is reporting that Lost will now follow Grey's Anatomy for 6 episodes, starting in late April. Here's the reference if somebody wants to post: Lost Finds Post-Grey's Berth!

Tubesurfer 10:25, 13 February 2008 (PST)

The Freighter

At the main page and the bottom of the page, should you put a section for the Freighter people, so visitors can see the Island Survivors, Background Survivors, The Others and The Freighers as they are now the main groups of this season? And they are increasing.

Yeah, can we please have a freighter section, im checking every day for it to be updated, but still after 3 weeks nothing.

The Freighters are becoming much more prominant in the upcoming ep "The Constant" as the sneak peak shows, its pretty important that a freighter page is put up very very merry jelly soon.

next on lost - mobisodes

currently, it says 'missing pieces episode 6 available tomorrow on verizon', but that should be 'next week'. --DJVok 12:40, 3 December 2007 (PST)

I was in the process of updating all the templates. It is correct now. -Mr.Leaf 12:41, 3 December 2007 (PST)

Missing Pieces Episode 10 is entitled "Jack Meet Ethan" and runs 2:42. :) -- WanderingMathematician  talk  contribs  email  08:41, 7 January 2008 (PST)

theme

Wouldn't it be nice if we make some Chritmas/snowy theme for Lostpedia? --EXCALIBUR

Erm.. I "think" we have one, but it's only up over the Christmas period (i "think"). --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 15:04, 7 December 2007 (PST)
Santa comes around the island on Christmas eve and day. And we have one for new years eve as well. They will change as the dates approach. -Mr.Leaf 17:28, 7 December 2007 (PST)

Advertisements in text

Just the other day I started getting random words underlined and highlighted in green, the words are advertisements. I don't know why this is happening but it makes pages hard to view because I can't move the mouse without moving over one of the highlighted words and getting an ad. Is something up with the site or is just my computer, and if it is, why hasn't this happened before? ShadowUltra 12:11, 9 December 2007 (PST)

The same thing's happening to me, and it really is a pain -random2502 12:24, 9 December 2007 (PST)
Yep I noticed that, although it doesn't seem to be a problem if you use Lostbook theme. --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 12:41, 9 December 2007 (PST)
Its called contentlink. Its another popup related way for sites to make money. Its nothing to do with your computer. Some places control it so that it only affects people who don't have accounts or log in, but it seems to be comprehensive here. Dharmatel4 13:21, 9 December 2007 (PST)
Nope its not affecting me, It affects me when I use Monobook, but when using lostbook its fine for moi, hate pop up ads, get out of the way! --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 13:48, 9 December 2007 (PST)
Yes, another reason to switch to Lostbook. The green links don't appear. -Mr.Leaf 13:56, 9 December 2007 (PST)
Can we please try to get rid of this? What kind of money would it take to get Lostpedia commercial-free? There seems to be more and more annoying adds.--Mc peko 09:51, 10 December 2007 (PST)
I doubt you would be willing to pay the amount of money required to run LP. We have on numerous occasions had to update servers (thousands of dollars) due to high traffic (with our record at almost 2 million page views in a day on forum, wiki, blog). Unfortunately add revenue is the only way to pay for this, and with many people blocking adds with firewalls, etc, and not a lot of people on to support the equiptment during the hiatus, these links are likely necesary. Contact Admin (I suggest via email) about them if you want as he is who is in control and in charge of them. -Mr.Leaf 12:53, 10 December 2007 (PST)
As was aleady said, if you switch to lostbook mode, the contentlink stuff goes away. Thats a very reasonable workaround. Dharmatel4 10:01, 10 December 2007 (PST)
Another reason to make Lostbook default. --Blueeagleislander 18:07, 10 December 2007 (PST)
Alternatively, for Firefox users, I recommend the Adblock Plus extension, which gets rid of those and many more banners and ads. -- Graft   talk   contributions  18:37, 10 December 2007 (PST)

I think that having the Contentlink ads on Lostpedia is a great idea. It'll annoy visitors to the site and drive them away. That'll reduce traffic on the site and thereby cut our bandwith requirements. We could even make it more effective if we configured it in bright-colored, flashing text on a high contrast background - and maybe add a loud, repeating sound clip to play on all of the pages. --Doc 10:20, 13 December 2007 (PST)

Yeah. That almost beats deleting the entire site.--Mc peko 10:44, 13 December 2007 (PST)

Ads like these make LP lose its credabilty as a Wiki. I understand that operating this site is very exspensive, but "there are alternatives to fighting.
-- Iron Man  Send a message  View contributions  19:49, 21 December 2007 (PST)

I suppose we could do a donation drive like Wikipedia. The ads mostly catch the non-registered users. Regulars shouldn't find it difficult to disable them through custom css or something like adblock. It is very expensive to run a site like this. The same people that complain about the ads will probably complain that the site is slow on show-night. It's hard to please everyone. Who would be willing to pay a subscription or donate to the cause?    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 07:38, 28 December 2007 (PST)

How about adding a PayPal account button?--Mc peko 09:07, 28 December 2007 (PST)

Donations may be an option however in the mean time admin has said he will try and find alternatives to the content links before the season starts. As Jabr said Lostpedia is expensive to run and we can't always please everyone. New ways to support the site (ads, donations, etc) may be appearing in the next few weeks so bear with us and let us know what you think of them. We are trying to find a good option before the season starts. -Mr.Leaf 10:55, 28 December 2007 (PST)

I have to say, the green text/ads are completely annoying. I stay logged on on my computer at home, but check Lostpedia occasionally from school (where I actually am right now). If I were a new user, it would completely turn me off of Lostpedia. I understand that we need money and that ads generate money, but hopefully we'll find an alternative soon, especially with Season 4 a month and two days away. Almost anything would be better than the green text that pops up about one word for every 50-75. David 10:04, 29 December 2007 (PST)

You can make your firewall/adblocker/whatever block the ad server's address: kontera.com. That fixes it nicely. --Elijahg 15:12, 11 January 2008 (PST)

  • Point remains that most visitors are unlikely to do that. Generally speaking, people don't sign up for Wikipedia to read an article real quick or post a *gulp*... theory. -- Iron Man  Send a message  View contributions  13:12, 22 February 2008 (PST)

Ireland's air dates are Monday 10pm on RTE 2, a day behind UK each week!

Wondering why Canada is listed as showing 'The Constant' a week early?

Poll Typos

The new PollDaddy poll is FULL of typing errors. Please can somebody fix it? --The Smiley-Faced Balloon 13:13, 27 December 2007 (PST)

Oceanic News Blurb

The news blurb for the Oceanic Airlines website is full of issues. "It's" should be "its" in both sentences where it appears, the whole blurb is way too long, and there are a few runon sentences and lack of commas. It should be cleaned up a bit. ShadowUltra 13:21, 28 December 2007 (PST)

Australian Season 4 airdate

Channel 7 is running a promo indicating the return of lost in February 2008 for Australian viewers. Could someone who can edit the section on the main page, add the month to the Australian airdate? - Inspirator 23:03, 29 December 2007 (PST)

Thank you for taking the time to contact us at Sky.

May I take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

That was from another forum user. It agrees with what we had always thought, as it airs on the Sunday following the US release. You can update the Main Page with this. :) --The Smiley-Faced Balloon 04:23, 1 January 2008 (PST)

Lost Returns

Shouldn't it say Season 4 STARTS in X days, not Season 4 RETURNS in X days? --Gluphokquen Gunih 23:07, 2 January 2008 (PST)

That makes more sense. Season 4 in not returning from anything, it is begining. -- #1LostFan  talk  contribs  Lost Wiki  23:27, 2 January 2008 (PST)

Glitches

The UK return date says 33 days to go, 5/6 more days than the US one, which is not true, it returns February 3rd. 3 days after airing in the US/Canada. --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 04:21, 4 January 2008 (PST)

It's been fixed. -Mr.Leaf 17:55, 4 January 2008 (PST)

valig=top

Could we use top vertical alignment around the site, like in templates, etc.? I think this would look a lot better.--Mc peko 11:55, 4 January 2008 (PST)

Please give a better example of what you mean. Most HTML code cannot be used in the wiki.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 13:03, 4 January 2008 (PST)

In tables, I'd like the content to be aligned to the top, instead of to the default center.--Mc peko 13:59, 4 January 2008 (PST)

the word whet is misspelled on the front page in the box about Find 815.

Isn't "wet" the correct spelling? --   Dee4leeds  talk  contribs  all  13:33, 4 January 2008 (PST)
Only if you mean "dampened". Whet means "sharpen" or "hone". --Doc 13:41, 4 January 2008 (PST)
But surely the context its being used means its "wet" then. Becuase it's wetting your appitite not sharpening your appitite. --   Dee4leeds  talk  contribs  all  13:45, 4 January 2008 (PST)
No, it's definitely "whet". See this. Kayube 14:41, 4 January 2008 (PST)
"Whet" is the correct spelling for this usage.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 18:10, 4 January 2008 (PST)

Mobisodes not worldwide

Why does the main page claim the Mobisides are available "worldwide"? They're only available to US residents.--Nevermore 08:00, 8 January 2008 (PST)

  • The "everywhere" thing is when they're available on abc.com, which is worldwide.
I'm in the UK and I can't ever seem to get the Mobisodes to play on abc.com, but the rest of the videos play fine. It's like this for a few people I have asked.--Baker1000 15:12, 9 January 2008 (PST)
Worldwide means their is no IP restriction on the video on abc.com. Unlike the episodes which have IP restriction to allow only US visitors to watch them. I've talked to some people who can watch and some who can't from around the world. I have been able to watch a few (I'm Canadian) but some i haven't. It may just be you getting unlikely and trying during a time of greater load or something with your browser/ISP. I don't know but theoretically anyone anywhere with a fast enough internet connection should be able to watch them via abc.com.-Mr.Leaf 16:27, 9 January 2008 (PST)
Same problem for me --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 16:27, 9 January 2008 (PST)
Leaf - Ive tried on both IE7 and Firefox 2.0 and they do not work, i have a very fast computer and internet connection, so hell knows what it is for me, all other vids on abc work fine. But anyway its not like we can do anything about it! lol --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 16:29, 9 January 2008 (PST)
It is strange, as i sometimes can and sometimes cannot. However, I am likely correct in assuming the "This video in loading" message never changes. However when a video is IP restricted you'll get a message before the video even begins to load so while theoretically i believe you should be able to watch for some reason you can't.-Mr.Leaf 19:35, 10 January 2008 (PST)

Not sure where to mention this, so here seems like a good place. Episodes on ABC.com are not viewable by Canadians. I assume it is like this for the rest of the world other than the USA. Should this be moved from the world section to the US section? -- The_numbers 14:09, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Episodes are not but mobisodes should be. I have watched numerous mobisodes on the ABC media player (I am Canadian). The template is correct as it is for mobisodes.-Mr.Leaf 19:56, 1 February 2008 (PST)

The news section error

The section of news dedicated to Lost: Via Domus is labeled as "Studios, Writers plan to meet" or something like that. It's a bit confusing. --Sam McPherson 12:16, 23 January 2008 (PST)

Isn't that the standard formatting of American news headlines? "Bush, Cheney talk politics", "Obama, Clinton in talks" etc.?--Nevermore 12:19, 23 January 2008 (PST)
No, he means why does the Via Domus article have that headline.--Baker1000 15:25, 23 January 2008 (PST)

We need a way to distinguish between characters in flashbacks and flashforwards. Any suggestions?

Now that I think of it, nobody is credited for any other templates or pages on this wiki, are they? While I imagine this took quite a bit of hard work, why should this be any different?--Sloths 21:58, 5 February 2008 (PST)

This is because Admin asked that we should be credited for all of the work that was done. It took many hours, and he decided we should take credit for the work that we had done. INDEX UPDATES

A similar string started down below so I'm moving my own comment --Jeff 17:19, 13 February 2008 (PST)

Writers' strike headline.

"Deal Has Been Reached to End Writers' Strike: Eisner". Shouldn't it read "Eisner: Deal Has Been Reached to End Writers' Strike"?--Sloths 14:19, 8 February 2008 (PST)

  • I'm a newspaper editor by trade. The fact of the matter is that different media outlets do their headlines different ways, I've seen such a headline both ways, with the name in front and in the back. All that matters in the editor writing the headline's eyes is that with that kind of headline, there is a name to attribute the statement to. --Jeff 16:46, 8 February 2008 (PST)
  • Most of our news is based on outside news agencies. We use their titles to credit their work. If it as LP written news item (usually from out blog) it was specify the Sysop who wrote it. The title appears as it does on the news article. -Mr.Leaf 17:12, 8 February 2008 (PST)
I see it two different ways. "Kennedy: We're going to the moon" and "We're going to the moon: Russia". The former says that JFK is announcing the intention of the United States to make a lunar landing, whilst the latter is Russia commenting on the topic. --Sloths 19:02, 8 February 2008 (PST)

Didn't really know where else to put this, but what's happened to the episode reviews that we all loved on the Lostpedia Blog? (MOVED FROM SIMILAR STRING ABOVE)Can we add Daniel, Miles and Charlotte to the main characters portion of the index and Lapidus to the guest stars portion yet? Also, can the Main Character list in the index be rearranged to either alphabetical order or so that the dead/missing characters -- Boone, Walt, Shannon, Ana-Lucia, Libby, Mr. Eko, Nikki, Paulo and Charlie -- are not before Desmond, Juliet and Ben, who are still alive?--Jeff 12:58, 8 February 2008 (PST)

To comment on my own post: Also, Juliet and Ben's names in the main character index should be changed to the same style as the other names, IE the other characters are only listed by the name they are best known as, not their full names.--Jeff 17:19, 13 February 2008 (PST)

Airdates box - US & Canada

Is it just me, or is there something a bit confusing about the "Next Time on Lost" box? It appears from the way it's laid out that the next episode in the US is Confirmed Dead, and the next episode in Canada is The Economist.

I suspect the intention is to group US and Canada together, and show that the two episodes are on tonight, but this isn't obvious at all.

Also, why bother listing that Confirmed Dead is on at 8pm anyway - it's just a repeat, surely? Spook 05:09, 14 February 2008 (PST)

SPOILERS in the "recent changes" page!

I just looked at this page and I read something about characters dying in Season 4 and some other character becoming a regular (that was between parentheses). Is it normal that informations like that appear on this page?--Oliverdevor 08:54, 17 February 2008 (PST)

  • It's not a 'spoiler' if it has occurred in an episode aired in the US (the episode shown in the Spoiler Warning on the main page) -random2502 03:51, 19 February 2008 (PST)
    • I don't know about you, but I stay away from the Recent Changes until I've seen the episode. It's a given that there are going to be spoilers for non-US viewers.--Baker1000 03:53, 19 February 2008 (PST)
    • I'm not a US viewer but I watch the episodes only a few hours after you guys. I'm of course talking about information relative to episodes that have NOT aired in the US. I don't wanna divulge those informations to avoid spoiling other people, but it was about important characters dying later in season 4 and Rousseau becoming a regular. The information was between parentheses and followed an arrow, I assume it was the title of an entry or paragraph. I think it was on an User Page (where spoilers are strictly forbidden!!). That said, maybe it was just a theory, but I doubt it.--Oliverdevor 09:40, 21 February 2008 (PST)

Ok, not sure if this goes here, but this was the best place I could find.

ABC is airing special "enhanced" versions of episodes before the new one airs - see Enhanced episodes. I'll wikify "enhanced" on the main page so people can follow the link to see what it means. -- Graft   talk   contributions  09:12, 26 February 2008 (PST)

New Zealand Airdate

Can someone update the NZ airdate template on the main page to read Wed 8.30pm The Economist? --Kivipat09:19, 24 February 2008 (PST)

Next Time on Lost--Missing Pieces?

Is it time yet to take the Missing Pieces bit out of the "Next Time" section on the main page? They've been over and done with for enough time now. Robert K S 14:14, 28 February 2008 (PST)

I agree. Unless there are arrangements to make a second "season" of Missing pieces, I would take it out of the "Next Time on Lost" section. Even if you decide to keep it, is there a purpose why they would remain on the main page?-- Sam  T  C  12:53, 1 March 2008 (PST)
Yeah I also agree completely with this. --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 04:01, 6 March 2008 (PST)

Next time on Lost--ahead a day

Why is NTOL ahead a day? It's Thursday the 28th, at 6:30 pm central, yet NTOL is talking about what is airing NEXT Thursday (as in the 6th), and not tonight's episodes. I understood that my cache wasn't being cleared when NTOL appeared to be behind, but since I can't time travel, this doesn't apply here. David 16:34, 28 February 2008 (PST)

I didn't see that happening for me, but if you do ever time travel... check out the new front page slogan ;) -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  19:26, 29 February 2008 (PST)

"we'll be your constant" LOVE IT! hahahaha keep that there forever sysops! -- SauronsMatrix  talk  contribs  email  12:50, 1 March 2008 (PST)

That's fantastic! I love it! The slogan should change every week to match a theme from the episode. -- Sam  T  C  12:56, 1 March 2008 (PST)
