Talk:Kelvin's Dam (theory)

I would suggest some changes to the theory:

  • The "leak" was a leak into the containment system from the outside. The magnetic anamoly could somehow build up a net magnetic "charge". The containment system was designed to regulate the build-up of the charge but it failed.
  • As the magnetic charge built up, the magnetic field associated with the anonomy also grew. The charge and the field are always building. At 108 minutes, the magnetic field will have grown large enough to begin to damage the station.
  • The discharge procedure and failsafe procedure were developed after the original incident. The numbers are parameters given to the computer to carry out the discharge. If an automated procedure is used (machines), the bad luck associated with the numbers will cause the machines to immediately fail.
  • The failsafe procedure was not a sure thing. It was unknown what would actually happen if it were triggered. The manual discharge procedure was considered the safest approach to handling the problem until a more permanient solution could be found.
  • During the original incident, something on the island was communicating to the scientists stationed at the Swan through the computer. These communications contributed to the incident.
