Pleiades in Tattoo?

While watching White Rabbit on DVD I noticed that when John rescues Jack from his fall over the cliff and he and John are laying on the ground together looking a bit like the Gemini twins. In the same episode there was also a discussion between Kate and Claire about astrology where Claire asked Kate if she was a Gemini. When I saw the tattoo on Jack's left forearm I dropped the Gemini conjecture and I came here to look up any possible information on the forearm tattoo.

I found the much better image of the tattoo and noticed that there were six stars visible in the tattoo, but after blowing up the image I saw what looks to be a seventh star just peeking out of his sleeve. Could these stars represent the Pleiades, a constellation of significance in ancient Egyptian mythology, especially given the pyramid shaped island in the background? I haven't had time to do much research on them but apparently they are highly significant to the ancient Egyptians. They present one of the trials the soul must pass to enter paradise and may also be associated with birth and midwives. I talked to a friend about my discovery and she said the the Pleiades were also used as a test of vision in ancient times, people with good vision can see more stars in the constellation. She also said that the Pleiades were significant in Greek legends as well as other ancient cultures.

I haven't gone any deeper into their possible significance and am not 100% sure the stars in the tattoo are the Pleiades, but the symbolism seems too good to be nothing more than just another coincidence. I'm still quite unsure about the rest of tattoo but I think it might be time to move some of the information on this discussion page into the article itself to help generate more interest and have more eyeballs looking at it.--OolonColluphid 16:22, 17 July 2007 (PDT)

Jack's Tattoo
Jack's Tattoo

Today, while watching Man of Science, Man of Faith, during Jack's speech in the caves, he lifted up his arm and I saw different tattoo. Should it be included in the article? Obi-Dan Kenobi 18:40, 21 September 2006 (PDT)

Was it the same arm or in the same spot?--Tricksterson 10:58, 23 September 2006 (PDT)

  • No he has one under his arm as well as on his shoulder area.--CaptainInsano 10:59, 23 September 2006 (PDT)
These tattoos also appear in two scenes during A Tale of Two Cities. Cbodine 14:23, 21 October 2006 (PDT)
  • Are we putting these in the main article? I think we should, in a subsection. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 20:22, 13 March 2007 (PDT)
  • In "Par avion" the tattoo can be seen when he is playing ball with Tom, someone could post an image or explanation on it... Leshnah--Leshnah 16:46, 15 March 2007 (PDT)
  • In "One of Us" this tatoo is also visible (really) in the end when Jack gives the stuff to Juliet at the beach.

Here's a link to a photo from "Men's Journal" magazine. Cbodine 11:13, 12 May 2007 (PDT)

Translation in Stranger in a Strange Land

In the episode Stranger in a Strange Land, Isabelle gives the translation as something to the effect of "he walks among us but he is not one of us". Have they changed the characters on his arm, or is this a purposeful mistranslation? --Bantab 20:40, 21 February 2007 (PST)

Tattoo timeline

Did anyone catch at the end whether it was Jack's current tattoo or just part of it? And was it implied in "Count to Five" that the 5 on his tattoo is a result of the story he told? --Jackdavinci 11:17, 22 February 2007 (PST)

Jack's red tattoo

I've just started to watch all the episodes over again...

In episode 3x13, a lot of us Lost-fans noticed a "red-ish" tattoo just above Jack's elbow. Yesterday when I watched ep 1x01 I saw something really great.

After Jack has helped all the people from the crash and he goes to a remote area, he takes of his shirt to treat his own wound. Jack raises is left arm over his head and *bang*, you get a pretty good shot of his tattoo. Time mark: 09:34 on a R2 DVD. So far, this is (probably) the best shot yet of this "red-ish" tattoo... --Kinetix

...

The tattoo is in Chinese and not Thai because lots and lots of Chinese have lived in Thailand. As such, a significant part of the Thai population is at least partly of Chinese origin.

And in ep 1x20, the tattoo is visible again. As Jack starts is bloodtransfusion, there's a shot of the tattoo where it is semi visible. --Kinetix 10:19, 28 March 2007 (PDT)

I'm really surprised it stayed so well unknown for such a long period of time. Thanks for catching the old ones, as I was wondering if it was something he received post-otherville.   Hooper   talk    contribs    email   10:21, 28 March 2007 (PDT)

Article Clean-up, Reformat

Hey guys. So I did a little article clean-up - took out the bad photo of Jack's forearm tat as it's unnecessary in conjunction with the great detailed shot we have. Also reformatted so it's a bit more concise.--Overworkedirish 00:38, 23 March 2008 (PDT)

Rename

I was wondering how people would feel about changing the article's name to "Jack's Tattoos". After all, there are more than one. We could easily redirect "Jack's Tattoo" so people can still refer to the individual tats in articles and they can link right up.--Overworkedirish 00:38, 23 March 2008 (PDT)

Screencap Needed

We were shown some new changes - but just briefly - in episode 04x09 "The Shape of Things To Come" - of the tattoo on Jack's inner left forearm. Does anyone have a good screencap for that tattoo that we could post to this article? -- Saukkomies 06:28, 26 April 2008 (EST)

  • I'm confused - you're saying his tattoo has changed?? We have a great screencap of the inner left forearm tattoo. To be honest, what we REALLY need is a nice head on screencap of the completed left SHOULDER tattoo.--Overworkedirish 07:22, 26 April 2008 (PDT)

No they're right.....he definately has a new tattoo not on the forearm but above that one....right under his armpit....you can see it vary briefly at the beginning of the episode....but yes we also need a screencap of the one on his back shoulder....anyone have this yet? Jay1331 15:20, 2 May 2008 (PDT)

I agree he definately has a new tattoo on his left arm near his armpit. It's very brief shot of it as well as the one on his left shoulder blade...Any images yet of this either tattoo???Mojizzle 15:19, 2 May 2008 (PDT)

Tell me what scene and what shot we can see it in, and I'll get the screenshot. Robert K S (talk) 07:44, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
Robert: when Kate is going to sew Jack's wound, in the first episode of season 1, he raises his left arm briefly to pour some alcohol on his wound, and you can see there his inner tattoos. There are several and they look like stars.--Salvora 07:48, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
I don't have Season 1 episodes on my computer to get screenshots from. (Man, I wish I had been recording them in HD from the beginning...) But anyway, I thought the point was that there were new tattoos we hadn't seen before. Is that, in fact, not the case? Robert K S (talk) 09:31, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
Yeah, very sorry, I wasn't paying attention. But now I am! Anyway, Episode 1 x 01, minute 10, show the tatoo in the inner side of his left arm. Episode 4 x 09, minute 1:30, when Jack is looking for drugs inside a suitcase, you can see a tatoo in the inner side of his left arm, showing from under the t-shirt leave. But, quite honestly, I can't tell whether it's the same tatoo as in Episode 1 x 01, or a new tatoo. --Salvora 09:41, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
And I can't find any more evidence... Episode 4 x 09 minutes 9:22-9:24 (when they find the body of the freighter's doctor in the beach) show a bit more of his tatoos in the inner side of his left arm, but quite honestly, with the T-shirt on, there is just no way to tell whether it's the same as seen in Episode 1 x 01 or a new one, especially if the new one is supposed to be right next to his armpit! --Salvora 09:48, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
OK, FOUND IT! The new tatoo can be seen in Episode 4 x 10, minute 1:55, when Jack is in the future, lying in bed and woken up by the phone. This tatoo is definitely new compared to the tatoos seen in Episode 1 x 01 minute 10.--Salvora 10:11, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
Another good screenshot is Episode 4 x 10, minute 2:41.--Salvora 10:12, 8 May 2008 (PDT) And 3:24. Plenty to choose from.--Salvora 10:16, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
