Hassan?

I cannot find a reference for Hassan being the first name of Sayid's father or Sayid's middle name. Where is this information from? --Phil (talk) 08:13, 16 March 2008 (PDT)

  • Also, in most of the books I've ever read on Arab culture, the name is spelled Hasan. Aobozu 09:35, 16 March 2008 (PDT)
  • It says that he's mentioned in One of Them, yet nothing is mentioned besides "your father". I even searched for Hassan in the transcript. Guess what--there's no Hassan. I nominated the article for deletion. Expecting votes below.--     c      blacxthornE      t     09:38, 16 March 2008 (PDT)
  • Okay I checked Sayid's page. It seems that Sayid's father has been presumed Hassan for quite a while, goes beyond May 29, 2007 (which was the earliest revision I checked--I couldn't search further) and I saw that the trivia section says that Hassan is his father based on Oceanic-air.com. So since that site is considered deuterocanon, I'm adding that template as well. We'll see what happens from there. --     c      blacxthornE      t     09:48, 16 March 2008 (PDT)

Rename

Votes, anyone?

  • Delete. Unless there's been some divine revelation, I say toss it. --     c      blacxthornE      t     09:38, 16 March 2008 (PDT)
    • Rename. Changed my vote to rename since there seems to be no "Sayid's father" page (except for the redirect). --     c      blacxthornE      t     09:56, 16 March 2008 (PDT)
  • Rename to Sayid's father. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  09:43, 16 March 2008 (PDT)
  • Rename: Unless there's a custom among Arabs to take their father's name a as middle name, I say rename into Sayid's father. No need to get rid of it, there are many similar articles on Lostpedia. --Hunter61 09:47, 16 March 2008 (PDT)
    • Actually in Iraq there is no "Last name". People are customarily called with their first names, then their father's and grandfather's (although usually just first name and father's name). If Sayid's father is Hassan, then in fact he would be called Sayid Hassan. Saddam Hussein's father was Hussein 'Abid al-Majid for example. They also use some nicknames (usually derived from places of origins or occupations) which I presume is why his "last name" is Jarrah (which means surgeon). --     c      blacxthornE      t     09:56, 16 March 2008 (PDT)
  • Rename to Sayid's father, as he is mentioned in the storyline--Phil (talk) 13:54, 16 March 2008 (PDT)
  • I've changed it to a rename banner on the main article. -- Graft   talk   contributions  21:08, 18 March 2008 (PDT)
  • Unsure: playing devil's advocate here: oceanic-air.com is run by ABC and is not necessarily non-canon, but largely considered semi-canon or "deuterocanon". So if we don't have a direct reference from the show, perhaps we can go to the "next in line" for the name. -- Graft   talk   contributions  21:08, 18 March 2008 (PDT)
  • Rename to Sayid's father. --CTS 19:28, 4 June 2008 (PDT)
