Talk:Hanso Foundation
From Lostpedia
Bad Salzdetfurth??
On http://www.thehansofoundation.org/ at Section "Active Projects" there will be a Project called "Electromagnetic Research Initiative" - which would be of interest regarding the last episode of season 2. There is a picture at the bottom right corner which looks like a sound-free room undertitled with "Undergoing electromagnetic compatibility test. (Bad Salzdetfurth, Lower Saxony)" - this is in Germany, actually I live in Lower Saxony. Is there anything more related to Germany? As far as I know thats the only hint where the projects are located. --GULLI.ver 16:47, 30 May 2006 (PDT)
Website online with new look and more hidden things
Newsletter (sign up), strange things happen after entering a username; who is persphone, what is the password, and whay add the strange stuff? Russell 15:11, 2 May 2006 (PDT)
The password is "breaking strain". Boom
Am I seeing things thats not there, but in the picture on the mission statement page looks like a man face in the cloud.--Techiedavid 09:18, 5 May 2006 (PDT)
Clean up
Someone should volunteer in cleaning up this page from all the junk. Possibly make it more about the actual Hanso foundation instead of data from various websites. --skks 22:45, 2 May 2006 (PDT)
- Seconded. The information is being better collected in regards to the ARG. This page should focus solely on the corporation itself and leave clues related to the game to the ARG pages.--Arcon 10:10, 3 May 2006 (PDT)
- I'd typed up those letters on this page, but someone went and deleted half of them. *sigh* I guess I'll have to put them on again. --Quigley 09:19, 4 May 2006 (PDT)
SSH into thehansofoundation.org
If you SSH into thehansofoundation.org, you are presented with a user name and login prompt. Unknown if this will actually lead somewhere. -- Anonymous
- It's highly likely that this is just the method of access for the site designers, and attempts to login to the site via SSH shouldn't really be attempted as it would be considered as a form of net abuse. As a web site designer myself, I have a number of servers that only support SSH/SCP/SFTP access and all would present username/login prompts should an SSH request be made by anyone (they are shared hosts so they cannot use IP blocking). Doesn't mean you should be logging into them and modifying my filesystems remotely :) -- Radharc Fri, 5 May 2006, 22:26 BST
- That might not be true in letyourcompassguideyou; there are a few clues in the discussion (that I posted) that could mean otherwise. --Defkon 14:39, 20 May 2006 (PDT)
VIK Institute Comments
Anyone figured out what to enter in the "tell us more about yourself" box under VIK Institute?--Isotope23 05:42, 4 May 2006 (PDT)
Persephone text
After giving Persephone the password you see the following:

Hidden Memo
Once you go onto joops page on the Hanso Foundation websitr and type a message and click send an image does appear with circles on it...if you click the cicles and link them up a red circle will appear and once you click on that you get access to a secret memo from the Global Welfare Consortium to all the directors at the Hanso organisation...interesting reading.. ( I just typed the password Breaking Strain on the text to send Joop a message)

- This has already been covered in depth in both Hanso Correspondence and Thehansofoundation.org --Radharc 14:31, 7 May 2006 (PDT)
5-19 Podcast- Hanso is "real"
On the new podcast, Damon and Carlton are claiming that the Hanso Foundation is real. Obviously, its not, but they are pretending it is... like how the company behind Myst pretends the story of Myst actually took place.
Should this be noted on the page? --Piscez 04:45, 20 May 2006 (PDT)
Someone should go to the address and take a picture and be like "See? Nothing here." --Defkon 14:27, 20 May 2006 (PDT)
The Strangest Thing
After waching one of the wierd Hanso Foundation commercials, it said to go to www.letyourcompassguideyou.com. Though after going to the site I learned that a compass is there and you have to move it until a thing comes up, then you click. For those of you who do not have the needed thing that you need to use the compass or for those of you who are just plain lazy, just go to www.letyourcompassguideyou.com/usr. It's a quik way to skip the compass part and get strait to the wierdness. Sincerely--Jigsaw 15:11, 31 May 2006 (PDT)
The Hanso Logo
I've been very interested in the Hanso logo since the new site was launched - it's a brilliantly designed piece. When I first looked at it, I noticed a leaf image. My boyfriend, on the other hand, first saw a yin and yang. When I was looking at The Speaker's Save Joop site, I noticed that there is also a flame element to the logo (the left half of the yin yang is almost like a flame engulfing the "O"). The way I see it, these multiple images represent the multiple interests of Hanso:
- The Leaf represents an interest in the natural world. This mainly appears to be an interest in altering the natural state of things (ie. Life Extension, DHARMA zoology experiments).
- The yin yang represents an interest in the spirital and supernatural. Also, clearly, it represents a balance between good and evil. Could this be an indicator of a struggle within the Hanso organization? Alvar vs. the executives? Persephone vs. Hanso? DHARMA vs. Hanso? Or even just Hanso vs. The World (where they try to appear good, or light, but are indeed not).
- The Flame is one of the five Chinese elements. Hindus believe it to be one of five sacred elements that compose living things. Christianity associates fire with Hell. I think that, within the context of the show, it more likely represents Hanso's past as an arms dealer. There may also be a connection between this logo and The Flame station. Maybe this indicates that Alvar Hanso or someone else from Hanso is at The Flame, or simply that The Flame is still controlled by the Hanso Foundation.
As a side note, I immediately recognized the flaming "O" as being similar to a Canadian WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) logo, as I am a scientist and am familiar with these logos. This particular logo identifies Class C substances (oxidizing materials), which, in lay terms, provide oxygen to allow fires to burn. This can lead to spontaneous combustion, etc.. When I checked on Wiki, I found that the symbol is the same in Europe and the States, too. Oxygen, the most common oxidizing substance, is number 8 on the periodic table.--Cleast 11:14, 1 June 2006 (PDT)
latest addition to theories
Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have asserted in the official podcast that the Hanso Foundation was a real entity before Lost came to be and that they incorporated its reality to make the show more real.
i think they were adopting their usual taking-the-piss tone in the podcast. i'm not sure if this theory deserves a mention in the article unless someone comes up with some form of evidence, but i'd like to open it up to discussion before i remove it. --kaini. 20:10, 5 August 2006 (PDT)
The website
So much for Hanso being really powerful and real, huh? They can't even reclaim their domain name and make a new site in what? 2 months? Most real companies would be have tracked down the hackers (via the ethical hackers on their webteam) and be suing their asses off now.
I just dont get this stuff!
I have watched all of lost and I have never seen most of the stuff that is mentioned on the site like "joop".
There is also the picture called: "The only known image of Alvar Hanso"
When was this in lost? Did the creators of lost create the site for the hanso foundation and for savejoop etc? This is the sort of info I would like to see added to this site.
- It is called the The Lost Experience, sign your posts on talk pages. PS: The picture of Alvar Hanso was in the show.--CaptainInsano
Hanso IP Address
I guess this is an obvious thing to do for the general Lost Experience gamer, but for those who may not know how to keep tabs on new websites, the link below shows up a list of all known websites under the IP address for The Hanso Foundation:
http://whois.webhosting.info/64.207.133.244 (please note, this site may not want so many clicks to flood their servers, so please click once in a while, not each minute of each day!)
When a new site is referred to in any clue, before it gets a mention, it must be registered, even if only minutes before it's announced. Therefore, if a new site is added, then it should appear in this site up around 48hrs before it's referenced. Why 48hrs? Because those behind the people behind the Hanso Foundation and this game must make sure all DNS servers are up to date, which is usually within 48hrs. So, if they cut it any finer than that, they must be either willing for clues to be delayed or have a deal going on... Maybe the Hanso group gave the server hosts some money for rigging it up so quick ;-)
Anyway, as we're getting coded messages, a new site won't be set up quite yet, but soon a new set of clues should be unleashed, and this is after Apollo Candy bars are found (this is opinion and theory only at time of writing).
Namaste

Hanso Air (formerly Oceanic)
I was poking around the net and stumbled on this site while looking for anything new on Oceanic Airlines...Seems as though Hanso purchased Oceanic. --Kensol 14:24, 1 March 2007 (PST)
- Site is a hoax. --Marik7772003 14:31, 1 March 2007 (PST)
- Perhaps, but I find the notion intriguing... --Kensol 09:42, 7 March 2007 (PST)
Hanso Group vs. Hanso Foundation
These are two related but different entities. The real-world example would be the difference between the Ford Foundation and the Ford Motor Company. The for-profit business operations such as Apollo Candy and the shipping company are part of the Hanso Group. The various initiatives for research/etc are the Hanso Foundation. The foundation should not be called a company in the article. It might be worth creating a seperate article on the Hanso Group but I have not done it so far. Dharmatel4 22:59, 10 January 2008 (PST)
Easter Egg
I found this on Darkufo.Blogspot.com and it seems cool. Do you guys think this deserves to be on an article somewhere?
