Talk:Fire + Water

In the 7th official podcast when talking about this episode they mention that we see the skyline of London and that a famous building that music lovers will recognise and we should note the signage on that building; and should be noted as something that might be useful in the future, in an Easter egg kinda way.

All i could spot was the Brixton Subway station, Its hardly skyline!, and its has the typical red-circle UK subway signage on it.

Oh! and now i spotted a very brief shot of Battersea Powerstation which has been decommissioned for many years and was subject of a massive bid system to come up with a new use for it and the land its on.

Musically it is of course famous for being the cover of a Pink Floyd album cover [1977] "Animals". It features the building and a flying pig.

About all we can say about that is its a decommissioned power station... could that be what the swan is all about? Hardly original now but maybe a stronger pointer. --user:MRNasher

How quickly John forgets that he saw a plane in a dream, which led to the real one, which led to Boone's death. But he beats up poor Charlie similar circumstances. LOSTonthisdarnisland 07:18, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

I think that was the point. Even as early as this ep, Locke was doubting what happened in season 1 and whether he really shoulda been so blind in following his visions and letting Boone die. --Tarhun 11:02, 11 July 2006 (PDT)

Rename

Here is a way to use an actual + symbol with spaces, Fire + Water. So how about renaming to this?-- Dan  talk  contribs  email  16:49, 31 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Rename-- Dan  talk  contribs  email  16:51, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
  • Rename - If there's a way to change it so that the + can actually be used, then definitely change it to that. random2502 11:07, 3 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Rename - Closer to the real title than ±. --Nogard 03:05, 10 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Delete and Make New Apparently, rename isn't Working, so delete this page and make a new one at Fire + Water --Sauronsmatrix 05:47, 11 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Undecided - Mediawiki doesn't allow + to be used for articles, and as far as I know, making it bold won't solve it.--Baker1000 08:26, 11 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Unfortunately guys it is not possible. No matter what code you use Mediawiki does not allow the "+" sign to be used in an article. We cannot create an article using the link/code you suggested from this article (not possible to move to that article name), cannot link to that page without the proper code and once I created the page you suggested with a single word on it (see Recent Changes List) the article disappeared. As much as we'd like to do this, it is at this moment in time technically impossible. -Mr.Leaf 10:47, 11 September 2007 (PDT)
  • It's ashame that it worked only partly. The link worked before the article was created but not after.-- Dan  talk  contribs  email  10:55, 11 September 2007 (PDT)

Alternate Rename Solutions

Would Renaming it to any of the following work: Fire † Water Fire ┼ Water Fire ╬ Water

-- SauronsMatrix  talk  contribs  email  18:01, 11 September 2007 (PDT)

I believe all 3 would work. I am fine with the current naming although I would pick the first option of the above if their was a user consensus to change it. -Mr.Leaf 18:47, 11 September 2007 (PDT)
I don't have any problems with the current name, but I don't see why it can't be called "Fire and Water"--Baker1000 08:11, 12 September 2007 (PDT)
I think that I would choose the first option too.-- Dan  talk  contribs  email  09:38, 12 September 2007 (PDT)

Why not name it Fire and Water and then use a template to cover the title? I've seen it done on other wikis, for instance, here. --Nogard 02:27, 15 September 2007 (PDT)

"Fire and Water" seems to be a good idea.--Phil (talk) 05:15, 15 September 2007 (PDT)

Because that is not the name of the episode. It is "Fire plus Water" not "Fire and water" If anything we should use "Fire plus water". But when this article was created the symbol was used because it was the closest possible to the official title we could create. IMO renaming it to any of the above suggested symbols is pointless. All it would do is force us to change a lot of redirects and really 99.9% of the people who visit this page would not care if it the current symbol, a new symbol or a word. I think it works the way it is but thats only my opinion. -Mr.Leaf 07:37, 15 September 2007 (PDT)

Okay, how's that? --Nogard 10:21, 15 September 2007 (PDT)

looks good, thanks for doing that. I think leaving it the way it is the current real article title as all the redirects work and no one will no the difference. -Mr.Leaf 10:24, 15 September 2007 (PDT)
It's great! Well Done Nogard, it's a great solution, I'm glad that we finally could use the actual + symbol, and thanks Mr.Leaf and everyone else for your support.-- Dan  talk  contribs  email  12:07, 15 September 2007 (PDT)
  • The plus sign now works in page titles with the MediaWiki software; I've moved the page and everything seems to be working just fine. Actually, it has apparently worked since version 1.8.3, which was released in January 2007. -- Graft   talk   contributions  02:40, 25 March 2008 (PDT)
