Removing unsupported theories
I've removed the theories that the Captain is Kelvin or Michael, since neither of them offers any reason why this might be the case. Kelvin worked for DHARMA...why would he now be working for Widmore? Especially considering he's rather dead. And the only reason to think it might be Michael is because we know that the character is returning. The Big Shocking Moment
The fact that we spent a whole episode on the freighter with the captain being mentioned more than once, but never shown, leads me to believe that his identity is supposed to be really shocking. That implies that he's a familiar face.
