Brandon or Brennan ?

I'm from France and got the DVD box set from Season 1. So, I had the opportunity to listen to Rousseau's message in French (in France, her message was dubbed in German to let us understand she's not speaking the same language the survivors are... anyway...), so I decided a few days ago to update the contents on her distress message. The point is I definitely hear "Brennan", and not "Brandon" as mentioned everywhere on this wiki. Could it be worthy to change the name of this character, or add a text somewhere about this?

Also, if anyone here is from France, could you confirm what I heard? -- SGC.Alex 08:46, 26 June 2006 (PDT)

I'm not from France, but I'll chime in anyway, as your country doesn't have a monopoly on our common language. You're absolutely right about the fact that it is definitely NOT Brandon. (The middle sound is not "an" but "en". And it does not end with "on", but with either "an" or "a".) However, although it's possible to tell what it is not, it's more difficult to tell what it actually is. I think it could possibly be Brennan or Brenna (or perhaps Brendan or Brenda, if we imagine the "d" being kind of skipped). You say you hear Brennan, which is reasonable, and I think it is fine, if only for the reasons that at least it is certainly more accurate than Brandon, and also because it is said that the writers/producers have confirmed that they meant it to be Brennan (or Brennen), although I'd like to see the direct source of that information, which I have only seen repeated on fan forums. [Nevermind--I thought we could see it on subtitles, but all it says is "Speaking French"] --PandoraX 07:23, 27 August 2006 (PDT)
  • Actually from the way she pronounces it, it would be "Brennin" (with french pronounciation), not "Brennan" - but you're right it's definitly not Brandon -- FabC

Rename

I didn't nominate it for rename, but for the record, I say keep it like it is --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:50, 11 August 2006 (PDT)

I'm the one who put the rename banner (by the way, I hope I'm not overpassing the "rights" I could have on this wiki), but I think we could also create a "Brennan" page which would redirect to Brandon -- until we learn something more -- SGC.Alex 13:47, 11 August 2006 (PDT)

Of course you're not overpassing your "rights" lol, anyone's free to nominate something for something, as long as you don't just take the decision to do it cause you think it. Its perfectly valid to nominate it for rename, but I just think it is definitely Brandon personally. I would happily make Brennan redirect, except it does conflict with Tom Brennan really, so I dunno --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:49, 11 August 2006 (PDT)
Keep it--CaptainInsano
We should probably try to verify if the writers/producers have in fact confirmed what they actually meant it to be, and use that, whatever it is. If they say it's Brennan, then so be it. As long as they don't start telling us that we were supposed to hear "Radzinski", which would be stretching it a bit too far. Cheers 08:32, 25 August 2006 (PDT)
Okay let me call J.J.--CaptainInsano 09:05, 26 August 2006 (PDT)
You do that. I already found it, though. It appears that it was confirmed by Gregg Nations, the script coordinator for Lost, on March 21, 2006, posting through his account at the Fuselage, in answer to a question.[1] Here are the question and answer:
Q: In Danielle's radio transmission she says Brandon has the keys. Is there as much importance to this as to Danielle as I think. Plus this radio transmission, Danielle is speaking as though she is in a hurry but why does she try to go back to the black rock?
Craig Nations: Unfortunately, I did not work on the show during the production of the pilot, so I'm not sure what was the intent of Rousseau's message. Also, I have not been told since I've started working on the show. However, I did have to clear names for people who were part of Rousseau's crew, and Brennan (not Brandon) is one that cleared. That's all I can really help with.
So, it is Brennan, not Brandon. That being confirmed from an official source, I agree with the rename. Cheers 19:26, 26 August 2006 (PDT)

I think it should be renamed, as that is what French people believe she says as well as the creators. --Blue eagle islander 01:43, 15 September 2006 (PDT)

assumptions about him being French or part of the French crew

There were previously assumptions made that he was a member of the French team on the island. While this may turn out to be true, as of now there is nothing to base that conclusion on. All thats literally known is whats in the distress signal. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dharmatel4 (talkcontribs), 04:47, 18 March 2007 (UTC).

Official clarifications from TPTB are generally considered canonical. The fact that he was in Rousseau's team implies no assumption about his nationality. -- Cheers (talk) 02:56, 22 March 2007 (PDT)

Brandon from the freighter?

Ok this is really out there but here goes. They are implying that the sickness that afflicted Danielle's crew is the same time travel related dementia that Desmond, Minkowski and Brandon suffered from. So is it possible that Brandon's time shifts led him 16 years into the past on the island? Walt, Christian and various other people appear on the island when they shouldn't be able to. Assuming the monster isn't to blame for every single instance (or is somehow part of the same deal) then could a deranged time travelling Brandon have encountered Danielle's crew in the past?

Brennan from Kate's Born To Run?

Wasn't Kate's childhood sweetheart's last name Brennan? Could be a relative.
