Talk:Boston Red Sox

From Lostpedia

Jump to: navigation, search

I'm not particularly good at working out what happens on which day, but can we actually determine that Jack says that to Sawyer while the World Series is being played, or is that simply speculation/wishful thinking? -Paulbee

OK - I clarified the timeline. Outlaws takes place 1 day before the WS started. --Jajasoon 11:36, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

Have we been told why Jack is a Sox fan? Did he grow up in the Boston area? --Redsoxsonoma 17:59, 11 August 2008 (PDT)

Nomination for Deletion

Delete: I know there are a lot of Red Sox and general sport fans out there, so I'm probably going to get smacked for this, but is this article really appropriate for Lostpedia? I'd think a note on the articles for the two episodes where the Red Sox were referenced would be more than enough. --Doc 11:39, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

  • Keep: there have been multiple references to it on the show.--CaptainInsano 11:42, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

Strong Keep: Not just as a Sox fan, but if we have pages for every book that appears in the show, every song that appears in the show, and every movie that gets referenced, we need a page for the Red Sox, who appear in the show more than many of those other references. Plus this is a useful page for non-US viewers who don't know squat about baseball - the Sox are thematically relevant to Lost, and thus need explaining. --Jajasoon 11:43, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

  • Keep - The team's name is mentioned much more explicit in the show than some of the book titles. --Jambalaya 12:36, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

Strong Keep: I too am a Sox fan, but my reasoning behind the keep of the page is based on the fact that to build a true "Lost-pedia" we need to make sure we don't skimp or ignore any references made in the show. The Sox have not only been referenced multiple times in the show, but they also serve as an anterior metaphor for the struglles of the Losties. If it was irrelevant, then yes it would make sense to delete the page, but as of right now, the Red Sox seem to be extremely important to Jack and the viewers. Freebert248 13:19, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

Strong Keep I personally am not a Red Sox OR baseball fan for that matter, don't like it, don't follow it. But it is very clearly a metaphor they repeatedly use on the show, and it is something very likely people will lookup as a keyword, out of curiosity about the multiple references and significance. I think there is a danger of getting carried away with deletions, also. --PandoraX 20:37, 13 October 2006 (PDT)

  • Keep - now clearly part of Lost mythology. It needs its own page as there are noww multiple references as well as significance to the storyline (red sox is why sawyer knew he had spoken to jack's dad). -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T20:43, 13 October 2006 (PDT)
  • Keep (if another is needed) If all the songs/books have a page, this should have one -- Paladine<c.t> 20:45, 13 October 2006 (PDT)
  • Keep. --SilvaStorm
  • Keep -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  04:57, 14 October 2006 (PDT)
  • Keep for reasons stated above. --Gateboy42 05:43, 14 October 2006 (PDT)

Consensus is clearly for keeping. Sorry Doc, but I'm removing the delete tag... --Jajasoon 06:21, 14 October 2006 (PDT)

Some issues with article

Admins open up the first part of the article for edit please. A glaring issue is the last sentence that says the term the "Curse of the Bambino" was brought about by the 1986 World Series loss is completely incorrect as it was the trading away of Babe Ruth and the subsequent championships that he won with the New York Yankees that bestowd the Sox with the phrase "Curse of the Bambino". please fix this, it is uninformed.

While the "Curse" is attributed to the sale of Ruth to the Yankees after the 1919 season (he was not traded, rather sold for $125,000), the phrase "Curse of the Bambino" was not widely used until after the 1986 World Series. --Redsoxsonoma 17:57, 11 August 2008 (PDT)redsoxsonoma
