Ledger vs. Journal

I hate to harp on this (or appear to harp), but journals and ledgers are not the same thing. Journals track events roughly as they happen, while ledgers track final transactions. For example, the journal of a first-mate on a slave ship might read "Today, we took on another 7 slaves. I have immense sympathy for their plight." The ledger, on the other hand, would read "RECEIVED: 7 slaves, Papua New Guinea. Healthy, obedient." Can we agree on a vocabulary for this document? I feel that it's a significant difference.TheBookPolice 12:21, 29 February 2008 (PST)

I agree with your comment and when setting up the article I wavered on what to call it at first (see the history for diary where I changed the name back and forth). It's described as a journal by the auctioneer but it clearly says "LEDGER" on the side. It may be that the Black Rock first mate simply appropriated a ledger book's use for his journal. When we know more about the book, we can retitle the article appropriately. Robert K S 15:25, 29 February 2008 (PST)
I like your theory that it may be a journal written in a ledger book - it nicely settles argument. I think the article title is fine at the moment as you say, it can be changed if needed at a later time after all. --Nickb123 (Talk) 15:28, 29 February 2008 (PST)

Article accuracy

Can someone check the episode audio when they discuss the ledger in the auction room? The article says about the ship being lost in 1845 - I don't remember hearing this when I saw the episode - as if I had I'm sure I would have thought "wtf" as the Black Rock was lost in 1881. Potential goof alert! Also the Kingdom of Siam thing is new information - I'm surprised that didn't catch my attention also when I watched. --Nickb123 (Talk) 15:26, 29 February 2008 (PST)

I entered the text while watching the episode "The Constant" and looking at the closed captioning stream. I guarantee it's all accurate. Yes, there is a discrepancy between the show info and the The Lost Experience info. Show trumps ARG in canonicity, but yes, it may amount to a simple neglect on the part of the writers to follow an already-established timeline. Robert K S 15:37, 29 February 2008 (PST)
Ah okay, my bad. A disappointing goof then it would appear. --Nickb123 (Talk) 15:40, 29 February 2008 (PST)
