Post-Island Sun
- The child might be conspicuously non-Korean. This would support the theory that the island can manipulate or interfere with the conception process, which could also explain why the mothers' bodies had previously rejected the fetuses.
- Ben causes Sun's child to die. Juliet is only telling half the truth when she says women die after a couple of months due to pregnancy - Ben is doing everything he can to make sure that no child is born on the island and return to our time.
- Sun is living under a different name. At the end of the episode Ji Yeon, she takes a ring out of a hospital bag labeled with the name 권성혜 (Kwon Sung Hieh), which is not Sun's name (백선화). She is living under a different name and people from her past life do not know that she is still alive. This is why Hurley asked if anyone else was coming she said no.
- The two nurses who bring Sun into the hospital to give birth, both recognise her as a member of the Oceanic 6. If two random strangers recognise her, surely anyone from her past would also know she is still alive.
- The producers on the podcast commented that the name difference was a mistake; they simply didn't understand how Korean names work.
- When Sun says that there was another man responsible for Jin's death, she was referring to Charles Widmore. She is now going to use the resources of Paik Heavy Industries to battle Widmore and his own company, in his search for the Island.
- The person could be Ben as he was indirectly resposible for Jin's death when he killed Keamy.
- The person could be Jack, as he tells Ben that Sun blames him for Jin's death.
- Jack doesn't say what Sun blames him for, so it could be Jin's death or it could be something else.
- Sun will do something unforgivable, because she thinks Jin is dead. When in reality he may still be alive on the Island.
- When Sun was talking to Widmore in the flashforward, she said they had "common interests." Perhaps she learned from 'Jeremy Bentham' that Ben was the one who blew up the freighter. She wanted to team up with Widmore to go kill Ben for revenge for blowing up Jin.
- Sun said, "were not the only ones to leave the island". This would suggest she was talking abotu someone who left the island who is not one of the Oceanic Six. ie, Ben, Desmond, Frank or Walt.
- Sun is conning Widmore. We know that she blames her father for Jin's death, and she seems to know a lot about Charles Widmore, including that it was he who sent the boat. Maybe Jack assumes that she blames him for Jin's death, but after coming to her senses sun comes to blame Charles and her father instead. Now she is going to Con Widmore to find the island to see if Jin is alive or for some other unknown purpose.
- Sun's common interests with Widmore are finding the island again.
- Sun suspects that Jin is still alive on the island and wants to rescue him, but does not want Widmore to know this.
- The resources of Paik Industries will be used with those of Widmore's company in order to find the island again.
- Widmore thinks that Sun is helping him because she wants revenge on Ben.
- Sun blames Jack for the death of Jin, and she is going to work with Widmore as a traitor against Jack and those that follow him. She will help Widmore find the island.
- Sun's future meeting with Charles Widmore is to discuss taking her revenge on Ben for his role in the death of Jin. This results in the death of Jeremy Bentham / Locke She knows of Ben's role because of Bentham's visiting her.
Date Of Conception
- Typically, a woman may suspect she is pregnant after her first missed period. That would mean she had her period on Day 30, October 21, and she was impregnated about 14 days later on Day 44, November 4. That is the same day Jin left on the raft, and a very likely time for physical encounters.
- Stress & shock can often cause a missed period. This kind of reaction could most certainly be caused by being passenger in a plane crash, so previous missed periods might have been previously just seen as a symptom of physical shock, rather than pregnancy.
- Based on Sun's morning sickness symptoms, Jin is the father, and the date of conception is November 4, 2004. Morning sickness usually starts in the first few weeks of pregnancy. It usually peaks between the 5th and 7th week, and some women experience symptoms as late as 16 weeks.
- Juliet states that the day of conception was 53 days before day 90, give or take a day. This puts the date of conception between day 36 and 38 and, assuming Juliet was telling the truth (which she probably was since she confirmed much of what she said by repeating it into the Dictaphone for Ben) this invalidates all other theories for the conception date and fatherhood, since there is no evidence other than unfounded speculation that she had an affair while on the Island).
- Speculation about affair on the island is no longer "unfounded" given mobisodes.
- That doesn't look like Michael's baby.
- Speculation about affair on the island is no longer "unfounded" given mobisodes.
- Calculating from date of last menstrual period is more reliable than ultrasound. Ultrasound is used to confirm dates but has a +/- 7 day margin for error when a pregnancy is less than 12 weeks old. That expands the window for conception to days 30 to 45 using ultrasound alone.
- Juliet never even asked her when she missed her last period.
- Sun was estranged from Jin on October 24th (Day 33) when she revealed she spoke English. They do not reconcile until November 4th (Day 44) as he is about to board the raft, so it is unlikely the baby could have been conceived that evening. Jin and Sun reunite on November 8th (Day 48, the day Shannon died and the survivors of both sections were reunited), and are shown obviously post-coital the following morning (in the opening minutes of "What Kate Did" and Hurley even gives them a thumbs up); this seems the likeliest conception date and is the first time we have actually been shown for sure that Jin and Sun had sex, not to mention the connection to the "Numbers".
- Since Sun confirms to Juliet that Jin is the father, meaning she didn't sleep with anyone else on the Island, and the dates don't match up to what Juliet established, the "days 30 to 45" conception theory is the most likely, though it would have had to occur between days 30 and 33, when Jin left Sun.
- If Sun did not get pregnant between days 30 and 33, and Juliet's conception date is correct, perhaps she was supernaturally impregnated. If the impregnator is "good", she could be mother to a Jesus-like child; if it is "bad", she could be carrying a monster, similar to how the women in the "Village of the Damned" films were impregnated or Susannah Dean in Stephen King's Dark Tower books.
- Home pregnancy tests are not usually reliable until 14 days after conception. Since Sun took the test on day 58, the 30 to 45 day window also fits this timeframe.
- If Sun had no clue who the baby's father was, then it is seems reasonable to conclude that she had not had a period while on the Island. If she had had one, she would know that only Jin could be the father. Logically, she did not have a period in the first 30 days, either due to pregnancy or stress, and therefore the true father and date of conception may still not be known.
- Juliet may not have told Sun and Ben the truth.
- The D.O.C. suggests the time when she and Jin were not speaking. The father is Michael.
- Again, that's not Michael's baby.
- Agreed. It's definitely not Michael's baby. I am assuming that Sun got pregnant right before or right after her fight with Jin. (IOW, she got pregnant right before Jin discovered she could speak English, or right before the raft left.) The reason why Juliet's DOC is incorrect is because a-she was using old machinary in an abandoned station, b-ultrasound machines aren't exactly a science, or c-time on the island is screwy.
- Not only is the baby 100% Korean, but Sun had no desire to talk to Michael privately on the freighter. If there even was a chance he was the father, Michael would've reacted differently.
- Again, that's not Michael's baby.
The Others and Sun
- Have not already kidnapped Sun because they do not know she is pregnant.
- Were attempting to kidnap Sun in "The Glass Ballerina" but their plan backfired when Colleen was shot.
- Will eventually attempt to kidnap Sun and/or steal her baby.
- The Others attempted to kidnap all pregnant women in "Through the Looking Glass", including Sun, but were all killed. Due to certain events, including the fact that Juliet is now working with the Losties, the Others are no longer interested in kidnapping Sun.
Connection to Juliet's Research
- Juliet's method of curing infertility is parthenogenetic, meaning that a woman can concieve without fertilization. Sun's baby does not have a father.
- This is the reason why the body treats the womb as a foreign invader; it wasn't concieved normally and therefore chemically unbalancing the body.
