• Marvin Candle could have been initially part of Rousseau's team. François Chau, who plays Candle, does speak fluent French, and his character supposedly lost an arm (as did Montand). Furthermore, the Orientation videos were copyright 1980, which is about 2 years after Rousseau arrived on the island.
  • However, 2004 (the year these events are taking place) minus 16 years would place their arrival in 1988, not 1978. Thus, Candle/Wickman was probably not part of the expedition.
    • That would fit though, as they they did not make the videos on the island. Therefore, he could be Montand. 8 years later, after making the video, there may have been a malfunction, which led the team to the island to fix it.
• The team was a group of DHARMA Initiative researchers.
• The team did not exist at all, and is just a story made by Rousseau or something created by her possible insanity.
  • Rousseau may have been an other and the science team story was created by her or the others at the time of her exile due to insanity. Because she was the mother of Alex, she was exiled instead of killed or imprisoned.
• Rousseau is an other and the Science expedition is a hoax created by her and the others.
  • When she showed Ben to Sayid, it was part of a plan for Ben to inflitrate the Losties.
  • She voluntarily gave Alex to the Others so that Alex could be looked after and protected.
  • No genuine science expedition would willingly take along a woman who is 7 months pregnant.
• Danielle was 7 months pregant when she landed, therefore when the events leading to her teams demise occurred 2 months later. She would just have or been ready to give birth. The Others caused these events to capture Alex.
• In The Lost Experience, Alvar Hanso states that the signal (original signal broadcasting the numbers) was encrypted with a code known only by DHARMA; although a military signals intelligence vessel discovering the signal is plausible, it is unlikely that a regular 'science expedition' would have unless this 'science expedition' was something else entirely.(Sri Lanka Video)
• The science expedition is a front for the same group that sent Naomi, hence the need for guns and the ability to built an advanced military shelter.
• They were a group of DHARMA workers who came to take back the island from the Hostiles after the Purge.
• Benjamin Linus infiltrated this expedition, and is the person referred to as Brennan.
