Sarah Shephard's lover is the person for whom Sarah Shephard left her former husband, Jack. In "The Hunting Party", Sarah tells Jack she is leaving him and says, “I've been seeing someone -- someone else.” In "A Tale of Two Cities" Jack has become obsessed with learning “the name of the man that is with my wife”. During that episode Sarah is seen with two different men, one at what seems to be an elementary school and another accompanying her when she bails Jack out of jail. As yet it is unknown whether either of these men is Sarah’s lover; they could be platonic friends. Some fans have speculated that when she sees the man at the elementary school, she calls him by a one-syllable name such as Ben or Tom. Sarah only stated that "it doesn't matter who he is, it just matters who you're not," when speaking with Jack "A Tale of Two Cities".

The relationship between Sarah and her lover presumably resulted in a pregnancy ("Through the Looking Glass")
