Room 23
Main Discussion
Theories may be removed if ...
  1. Stated as questions or possibilities (avoid question marks, "Maybe", "I think", etc).
  2. More appropriate for another article.
  3. Illogical or previously disproven.
  4. Proven by canon source, and moved to main article.
  5. Speculative and lacking any evidence to support arguments.
  6. Responding to another theory (use discussion page instead).
  • This does not include responses that can stand alone as its own theory.
  • Usage of an indented bullet does not imply the statement is a response.

See the Lostpedia theory policy for more details.

  • "Jacob" is both a reference to the biblical Jacob and Jacob.
  • The types of images selected may be a homage to the opening credits of the original Tomorrow People series.
  • Karl, because he is possibly born on the island, does not know the outside world and is ought to be prepared for it through this movie which shows mainly things that do not occur on the island.
  • The film was made by the Others and is a orientation film for them, and the images of Hanso and DeGroot are showing their enemies.
  • The facility of pipes and tubes is the same facility as The Looking Glass station.
  • Ben tells Alex 'I didn't want him to get you pregnant' in "Through the Looking Glass" when she mentions Karl's 'brainwashing'. This suggests that the film could have an effect on the viewer's sex drive and could possibly be shown to Others to prevent them getting someone pregnant on the island.
    • The film does appear to be some sort of brainwashing device, although it is more likely used to indoctrinate the viewer into The Other's community. Cindy may have gone through the same process.
      • The brainwashing could be done to indoctrinate someone out of the community, as would be the case of Ben to get Karl away from Alex. The same kind of brainwashing could have been used in the past to indoctrinate Annie out of the community to roam the island as a brainwashed Dannielle.
  • At the end of the Room 23 film, you can see a piano, or a organ of some sort. This could be connected to the musician.
  • There's a modern laptop keyboard at the beginning
  • The full-length film mentions being the "awakened one," as thought it were a goal that can be obtained. Although this could be a figurative statement, as in philosophical awakening, it may be literal; DHARMA may have been aware that certain people can be "the one" as it comes to the Island, and Locke may have "awakened."
  • The film alters the viewer's mind in order to prepare him/her to find a constant in their life in case they must leave the Island. It somehow alters the subconsciousness of the viewer in a way that ensures they will be able to find such a constant in their life and latch onto it in two separate timelines, in case, upon leaving the Island, they find themselves "unstuck in time." This would make sense of the film's commands such as that to "think about your life;" the viewer must be able to find that one person or thing in their ENTIRE LIFE which they can latch onto as their "constant," and thus must be able to think about their life. In line with this theory, perhaps rather than killing him, Ben had planned to EXILE Karl to the outside world away from the Island, and for unknown reasons, Jacob had told Ben that Karl must survive his journey. Thus, Karl was prepared in Room 23 to be able to survive any possible time-shifts upon leaving the Island.
  • The "Easter Egg" that supposedly refers to Adam and Eve from the caves is related to the Doll's Eye image; in the reflection of the eye there appears to be a newspaper article (at the bottom of the reflection) and what looks like a small single-engine aircraft, like a fighter plane.
  • The amount of birds found outside room 23 is the same amount as one of the numbers.
  • Sawyer seemed to be entranced at the video. My theory is that of time travel. When the Island moves it'll move through time. everyone will move through the past and be in the dharma or other group. my theory is that sawyer has seen this video but cant remeber it because he will go back in time and see it.
  • Jacob (from the bible) has been time travelled to this time.
