  • The ship in the book looks a lot like the Black Rock and might suggest that Magnus Hanso was perhaps travelling as skipper across the Pacific secretly (after slave abolition) with slave cargo before the ship ran aground and crashed on the island. A big leap, but it could be that this is how the Hanso Foundation discovered the island, as Magnus would later tell his son about what happened, or that his son would one day find his father who had been missing for years (which is more in keeping with the blast door map which wrote of the 'deathplace of Magnus Hanso'.
