The Quarry is a work-site on Hydra Island where the Others have been clearing rocks. According to Juliet, the purpose of the work is to construct an aircraft runway. She states that she does not know the purpose of the runway. ("Through the Looking Glass") The label "quarry" is not used in the dialog of Lost and is Lostpedia's unofficial fan designation for this location.

Facts

The Quarry appears for the first time in the episode "The Glass Ballerina". A group of Others bring Sawyer and Kate out of their cages to work a day-shift there.

Sawyer and Kate are abruptly taken from their cages by a set of others, including Danny Pickett and Tom. They are assigned different tasks by Danny, who appears to be their supervisor. Kate is forced to break apart the rocks at the site, and Sawyer is told to wheel the rocks to an unseen location. There appear to be a number of other people working at similar jobs. ("The Glass Ballerina")

Danny also seems to employ a very strict system of rules and punishments at the quarry as is shown when Kate and Sawyer arrive. He uses a taser previously employed by Juliet to help keep Sawyer and Kate in check and quiet. Juliet also appears to hold equal if not greater power than Danny when she offers Sawyer a drink from her canteen without objection from Danny. ("The Glass Ballerina")

Later on, Alexandra Rousseau makes a hidden appearance at the site in order to ask Kate about Karl. ("The Glass Ballerina")

Alex breaks into the quarry again, attempting to free Kate and Sawyer. She sets off an alarm and is quickly captured by Danny, while telling Kate not to believe "a word they say. They'll kill your boyfriend just like they did mine." Toward the middle of the episode, Kate is brought in to Jack in an attempt to convince him to perform a surgery on Ben. During this meeting, Jack asks her what they are doing at the worksite. Kate responds that she does not know, "but it's something big". ("I Do")

After a deal was made that allowed Sawyer and Kate to escape Hydra Island, the Others seem to have at least temporarily evacuated the island and ceased the work at the Quarry.
