• Who is Montand?
  • He is Marvin Candle, his real name is Montand.
    • Danielle Rousseau was a member of DHARMA. She lied about the French science expedition.
  • He is Ray Mullen, considering they both lost their arm.
  • It is neither Candle nor Mullen, losing an arm doesn't provide enough basis for a theory.
    • But losing limbs is a consistent theory, and may have some significance beyond coincidence.

• How Montand lost his arm.
  • A polar bear ripped off Montand's arm.
  • He was attacked by The Monster.
  • Lost his arm at the theorized incident that Ray Mullen and Marvin Candle lost theirs at, so he had known the Others.
  • Montand didn't really lose his arm it was sarcasm from Danielle referring to the main character in the movie "Le salaire de la peur" aka "Wages of Fear". She jokingly insuated they might possibly be blown up while carrying the dynamite back from The Black Rock.
    • Rousseau didn't appear to be joking - almost never jokes in fact. She would be unlikely to joke about an era in which almost all of her companions died at her own hand.
