Portrayed by Cynthia Watros
Elizabeth, more commonly known as "Libby", was one of the tail-section survivors of Flight 815. She claimed to be a clinical psychologist before the crash and developed a romantic interest in Hurley on the Island. She was first seen in the Season 2 episode "Adrift" and was later killed by Michael; he shot her ("Two for the Road") and she later died of her wounds. ("?")
A competent woman, she seemed reserved about her own life and gave out little information. Since the only flashback she played a large part in was on the island ("The Other 48 Days"), little is known about her back-story. Adding to the mystery is that her surname has not yet been revealed and that she featured in flashbacks of other main characters.

Before the Island
Little is known about Libby's life, as no flashback was specifically about her. Barely anything is known about her childhood, all the way to Flight 815.
Libby trained as a young medical student before dropping out in her first year, and eventually undertaking practice to become a clinical psychologist instead. ("The Other 48 Days")
Libby talked to Ana Lucia of breaking her leg while skiing in Vermont: "I was on this run—going pretty fast—I was racing this cute ski patrol guy. I went off this mogul, lost my edge and, bam! Snapped my left leg." ("The Other 48 Days")
She may have also had three different husbands (though this information comes from a deleted scene and thus may not be canon). The only husband Libby mentioned explicitly was David, who died of an unknown illness, leaving Libby a widow. ("Live Together, Die Alone")
Around 2001, Libby met Desmond Hume with little UK money and no US currency, placing an order at an American coffee shop. She offered to pay for his cup of coffee and the two sat down together. When she questioned why he needed £42,000, he told her about his plans to sail around the world, but his lack of a boat. She informed him of the sailboat her late husband David had bought for a trip through the Mediterranean, but that he had died just a month ago. Believing that her husband would have wanted Desmond to have it, Libby gave him the sailboat, which David had christened the Elizabeth, after Libby. ("Live Together, Die Alone")
Some time later, a dark-haired Libby was admitted to Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute. It is not known what caused her to be institutionalized, but she was at Santa Rosa at the same time as Hurley. ("Dave")
Just before boarding Oceanic Flight 815, Libby intervened briefly during a heated conversation between Eko and Charlotte Malkin in Sydney Airport, asking if everything was all right. After being reassured, it is thought she left to board Oceanic Flight 815. ("?")
On the Island
Season One (Day 1-44)
After the crash of the tail section of Oceanic Flight 815 off the coast of the Island, Libby dragged herself out the water and used her medical skills to tend to the injured, quickly emerging as the doctor figure. She tended to Donald through his injury while also asking Ana Lucia about her life and profession. Donald passed away, making him the fourth. She tearfully told Hurley she buried a lot of people who died as a result of the crash. ("The Other 48 Days") ("Dave")
On the first night, Libby was present when three tail-end survivors were taken by the Others. Following this, Ana Lucia emerged as the leader of the Tailies, and grew close to Libby. After the first attack, Libby comforted Mr. Eko, trying to ease his guilt brought on by killing two Others who tried to kidnap him. A few nights later a second kidnapping took place, in which many of the Tailies, including the children, were taken. After this event, the group moved further inland. Libby informed Ana Lucia first of her belief that one of them hadn't been on the plane after the second Other attack. She was one of the people who encouraged Ana to throw the suspected Nathan in the tiger pit. After Nathan's disappearance, the group moved across the Island once again, discovering the Arrow station and set camp there.
Season Two (Day 44-65)
She was with Cindy when she saw Jin wash up on the shore. They took him to Ana Lucia and Eko, who assumed he was an Other. After discovering Michael and Sawyer as well, the Tailies put them in the tiger pit until Ana-Lucia entered the pit and ascertained they were also survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. ("The Other 48 Days") ("Orientation")
Libby was first introduced in "Everybody Hates Hugo" after the captured raft survivors began trekking across the Island with the Tailies to reunite them with the middle section survivors. She told Michael that the tail-end survivors numbered 23 initially, but when they arrived at the Arrow station, Michael realized that there were now only five Tailies left (Ana Lucia, Eko, Libby, Cindy and Bernard). ("Everybody Hates Hugo")
After the Tailies decided to go to Michael, Sawyer and Jin's camp, Ana ordered Michael and Libby to gather some fruit. While searching for fruit with Michael, she joked the Ana Lucia had trust issues, but when Michael suggested they go further in to look for fruit, Libby stopped them, telling him "That's where they" come from. She returned without Michael, and warned the group that he had run away in search of Walt. ("...And Found")
When Sawyer's bullet wound from his encounter with the Others became deadly, Libby used her knowledge of psychology to persuade him it wasn't as bad as he thought, much as she had done with Donald. Unlike Ana, she was willing to help construct a stretcher to transport Sawyer alive. However, when lifting this stretcher up a steep cliff, Cindy disappeared without a sound. Libby expressed great fear when they heard the Whispers right before Ana Lucia shot Shannon as the two groups of survivors paths' collided. ("Abandoned")
Her loyalty to Ana Lucia was tested after Ana accidentally shot Shannon. She, along with Michael, protested dealing with a vengeful Sayid wasn't the right option as Sawyer's life hung in the balance. It wasn't until her friend put her at gunpoint that she complied and tied up Sayid. She, along with Bernard, left Ana Lucia alone with Sayid, not agreeing with her actions, to be united with the middle section survivors. ("Collision")
Libby attended Shannon's funeral. ("What Kate Did")
After integrating herself with the middle section survivors, Libby took a liking to Hurley, who helped her build shelter. ("The 23rd Psalm") Hurley revealed his attraction to Libby in the Swan station when he discussed his chances with her with Charlie. ("The Hunting Party")
Hurley's crush on Libby was addressed further when he asked Sawyer about the tail end survivors, in particular Libby. Sawyer asked if Hurley liked her, but Hurley said no and left, embarrassed. Libby began to bond with Hurley while playfully flirting while building shelter and while doing laundry together, prompting Hurley to remember that she looked familiar. She seemed somewhat evasive when she replied with a story about how he stood on her foot after boarding the plane. ("Fire + Water")
After having flashes of the week in which she was abducted by the Others, Claire came to Libby for help recovering her memories. Claire and Kate informed Libby on Ethan and Claire's situation. To help Claire, Libby used her skills as a psychologist to help Claire remember what happened through a form of meditation. The two sat meditating for some time until Claire began to scream, having visions of Ethan and the Staff station. Libby tried to calm Claire down, but was unable to, when Kate ran to Claire's aid, thinking Libby had done something to hurt her. Claire asked Libby to help her uncover more memories, leading Libby to refuse, due to the reaction she had the previous time. This led Claire on her journey with Kate to the Staff. ("Maternity Leave")
Libby told Jack that a sea urchin stung her hand. When she asked for help from him, he told her she should use some Neosporin. She replied that the going rate was too high—Sawyer had horded all the medicines and made people pay for them in favors. Jack determined to win supplies from Sawyer in a poker game, and along with Hurley and Kate, Libby amusedly watched the card game between Jack and Sawyer from a distance. ("Lockdown")
Libby and Hurley started to exercise across the beach and whilst exercising, he confessed to having an eating disorder. Hurley showed her his private stash of food in the jungle and they both destroyed it. However they learnt of the food drop from Sun and Jin. Upon arriving many questions were asked about where it came from and eventually led to arguing over the food, Libby suggested that everyone should just manage to take what they need. She saw Hurley run into the jungle and questioned why he ran off when she found him, but he was evasive and didn't want to talk about it.
Later that day, Libby heard of Sawyer and Hurley's fight and went to his tent. She found him packing his bag full of food and he told her he was leaving for the caves. They had a minor arguement where she tried to talk him out of it, but he left nonetheless. Libby eventually followed Hurley all the way to a cliff top, when she approached him he was dangerously close to the edge of the cliff. He expressed that he was imaganing the current moment and everything that happened was not real, furthermore he made her up. Libby was deeply saddened by this so she used real life expeireances of her own to counter him. She tearfully claimed to have buried alot of people, including numerous tail-section survivours and was insulted by what he had said. Hurley began to realise that he wasn't talking sense and she explained everything she felt for him was real. They kissed and headed back to the camp on a high. ("Dave")
Libby was present at Bernard's S.O.S speech. ("S.O.S.")
Libby approached Ana Lucia about the cut on her forehead, Ana tried to lie and say she cut herself shaving, though Libby did'nt fully believe her, so Ana confessed that the prisoner in the hatch attacked her. Libby knew of Ana Lucia's aggresive nature and warned her not to do anything stupid. Hurley decided to take Libby for a nice picnic (to the same location Sayid had taken Shannon the night before she died) on an official date. However, he ended up leading her around in circles. Libby eventually proposed that they stay on a secluded part of their beach and that she would go and get the blankets from the Swan. Upon entering the Swan, she witnessed Michael (whom she didn't know had returned from his time with the Others) murder Ana Lucia. Surprised by her sudden appearance, Michael shot her twice in the abdomen, through the blankets she had collected. ("Two for the Road")
Jack, Kate, Eko, Locke and Sawyer returned to the Swan after being told by Michael the imprisoned Other had shot and killed by Ana and Libby and shot him in the arm—a lie used to cover for himself. It was discovered that Libby was alive and in deep shock. Jack battled to save her life, with Hurley at her side as he apologized for forgetting the blankets. She succumbed to her injuries and died uttering "Michael" to warn the survivors who shot her, but this was misinterpreted as asking if Michael had survived. ("?")
Post-Death
She was buried in the graveyard along with Ana Lucia, but their funeral was interrupted by the return of Desmond on the Elizabeth. ("Three Minutes")
When Michael later confessed the murders to Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley, he pleaded that killing Libby was an accident. Hurley pointed out that had Michael even had time to contemplate his action, he still would have killed Libby to protect his secret. Later that day, Michael left the island with Walt. However, he would later confess to Walt about the murder, putting a stop to their relationship. ("Live Together, Die Alone")Shortly after her death, Hurley visited Libby's grave to confess his fears and troubles. He laid a dead flower down for her. ("Tricia Tanaka Is Dead")
Off the island, Michael still felt guilt for Ana Lucia and Libby's deaths and he began to see visions of Libby. After a suicide attempt, Michael ended up in the hospital and just as he was regaining consciousness, Libby walked into the room dressed as a nurse, bringing him extra blankets (holding the blankets against her stomach as she had been when she was shot). She told him how he ended up there, and when Michael recognized her voice, he panicked and started to scream, whispers were also heard just as she dissapeared. After she vanished, Michael realized it was a dream.
She appeared once again when Michael was on the freighter. Just as he was about to press execute on the bomb supplied by The Others, he began to hear music. When the music faded, whispers were heard and Libby appeared for a brief moment and told him not to push the button, and she disappeared immediately like before. Despite her warning, Michael pushed execute anyway. ("Meet Kevin Johnson")
