The Others leaving the Barracks

  • The Others may have left via a subterranean passage as marked on Sayid's map. This would explain why no trace of their passage was found.

Conclusions from the Encounter with "The Monster"

General

  • The Barracks is the only place on the main island that is safe from the Monster. The Hydra is also safe because it is on the other island.
  • The Monster was created by DHARMA (is not a natural occurrence on the Island) and the Others weren't part of DHARMA; thus, they don't know what it is.
    • The Monster was created by DHARMA to fend off the hostiles/others.
    • The notations on the blast door about the Cerberus system and its catastrophic malfunction seem to somewhat support the idea that DHARMA created it but that it's beyond the control of anyone now.
  • The Monster was never "created" by anyone, which is why no one knows exactly what it is.
  • Juliet inadvertently spared Kate's life by handcuffing them together. The Monster scanned Juliet as 'good' or 'special', and could not harm Kate as long as they were bound together without harming Juliet.

Flashing lights

  • The flashes of light that Juliet saw may have been the same ones that Locke saw (when he said to Eko he saw a bright light).
    • If true, this may provide insight on why Locke was not "left behind." Perhaps the light flashes signify the individual as a "good person".
    • This might also indicate that either Kate or Juliet are also "good", particularly Juliet, as the Others seem to only recruit "good people".
  • The flashing was similar to when the Monster first met Eko - it found out who Juliet was, then left to do some homework for DHARMA.
    • It will be back in the same manner to kill Juliet later on, just as it later killed Eko after he faced it off.
    • It seems strange that the Monster would have to go somewhere to "do homework", unless it is collecting information on behalf of someone and then carrying out that person's orders.
  • The Monster approached Kate and Juliet and probed them with the bright white flashing light. Perhaps this shadows more on what Mikhail said regarding Kate being "flawed" - Perhaps Juliet is, too, and The Island's powers have no effect on these people. Thus they are no threat to the Monster.
    • This would imply that the pilot who was killed and Eko were not "flawed."
  • The Monster attacked in order to help Kate - it forced Juliet to reveal her lies.
  • Since The Monster is said to be a security system for the island, the flashes may have been it taking pictures of Kate and Juliet.
  • The Monster is under Ben's control and he's using it to help Juliet in gaining Kate's trust and infiltrate in the survivors camp.

The Fence

  • Right before the Monster touched the sonic barrier, it looks like Cerberus with 3 "heads" and a tail. It can mean that the word "Cerberus" appearing on the blast door map was referring to the Monster.
    • The fence was specifically designed as a protection against the Monster, and has been tested for "monster safety" by the people who built it. The reason why the fence works and why the Monster cannot go over it must therefore be inherent in the fence's design.
