- The song may contain clues about the true nature of the island. Maisons rouillées (rusty houses) may refer to the different hatches, and oiseaux blancs (white birds) to Station 3, The Swan. This may point at Rousseau knowing about the DHARMA Initiative's plans. Des reflets changeants (changing reflections) could also describe Eko's encounter with the Monster - Rousseau may have had a similar encounter.
- The English version could easily refer to Desmond's girlfriend Penny waiting and searching for him to return.
- The final line in the English version ('Not go sailing again') may refer to Penny arriving on the Island and not leaving.
- The use of the song, and the word "Shepardess" may have been a clue that one of the women on the Island (Claire) was related to Jack (Shephard).
