Because the Oceanic website is run by ABC and not the writers, it is uncertain whether a character named Jake is among the survivors on the show.
It remains unknown how Sally, Robert, BJ, and Jake were able to hack into the Oceanic website and post their messages. However, their messages could be from the message bottle in Exodus.
- However, the bottle that contains the messages was washed up onto the beach and came to be in the possession of Sun.
Jake Smith is JACOB, and keeps a front with the outside world by mantaining a wife, but had to come to the island with the people he wanted only one way possible, a plane crash. However, since someone staged that it was really at the bottom of the ocean, he had to write home to tell his wife that he wasn't among those at the bottom of the ocean.
