  • Ben used a television to prove to Jack that the Others are in contact with the outside world. This may only show that an antenna on the island is in receipt of a television signal. It doesn't prove 2-way communication. Given that we can't be sure where (or even when) the island is, the TV signals could have been received from a great distance, even another planet.
