Frank Lapidus confronts the mercenaries ("Something Nice Back Home")

The freighter mercenaries came to the Island aboard the freighter Kahana to apprehend Ben Linus. They were responsible for the deaths of at least six people on the Island. They are lead by Martin Keamy.

Activities on the freighter

Keamy skeet-shooting ("Meet Kevin Johnson")

The first sign that there were any mercenaries on the boat was when Michael, under the alias of Kevin Johnson, noticed Keamy, Omar, and two other mercenaries along with one of the freighter's crew skeet-shooting off the deck. When questioned by Kevin about his actions, Keamy snidely dismissed Michael. ("Meet Kevin Johnson")

Keamy was later seen telling Frank not to be late, apparently because Frank was taking several of the mercenaries to the Island. ("Ji Yeon")

A mercenary destroys Claire's house

While going to The Temple, Karl was fatally shot by the freighters. Alex and Danielle attempted to escape from the gunfire, but Danielle was fatally shot as well. Alex then surrendered, repeatedly shouting that she was Ben's daughter, because the freighter people were looking for Ben.

The mercenaries then took Alex along with them as a hostage to use as a bartering chip for Ben. Upon coming to the sonic fence, they forced Alex to type in the code, deactivating the fence. Unknown to them, however, this caused a telephone to ring and informed those in the barracks that the fence had been shut down. As Team Locke struggled to get to a safe place, the freighters arrived and immediately killed Doug, a blonde redshirt, and Jerome. As Sawyer ran towards Claire's house, the mercenaries fired many shots at him before one freighter fired a missile that destroyed Claire's house, throwing Sawyer back. The motives for this action were unknown, but Claire did survive. The shots then ceased as Sawyer rescued Claire and made it to safety.

The monster drags a mercenary into the jungle

The mercenaries then released Miles from his imprisonment in the boat house, giving him a walkie and sending him to Ben's house. Keamy used the walkie to negotiate with Ben, ordering him to come out and give himself up to the custody of the mercenaries. After Ben's refusal, a mercenary brought Ben's daughter Alex to Keamy, and he held her at gunpoint, threatening to kill her if Ben did not give himself up. When Ben again refused to comply, Keamy shot Alex in the head.

Ben promptly summoned the Monster, and it indiscriminately attacked the mercenaries. While Keamy screamed orders for the mercenaries to fall back, one unfortunate mercenary was dragged back into the jungle by a tendril of the Monster. ("The Shape of Things to Come")

Mayhew was thrown 50 feet into the air, causing him internal injuries, leaving him bloodied and unable to walk unassisted. He later died of his wounds on the helicopter flight back to the Kahana. ("Something Nice Back Home") ("Cabin Fever")

After stopping for a brief respite back on the Kahana (allowing Omar time to strap a device to Keamy's arm and for Keamy to read the secondary protocol), the five remaining mercenaries returned to the island after the shooting of Captain Gault. ("Cabin Fever")

Upon arriving on the island five clicks from where The Orchid was located, the mercenaries handcuffed Frank to the helicopter and set off to The Orchid to wait for Ben to arrive. Ben eventually did arrive, surrendering as a diversion so that Locke could sneak into the station. Keamy then knocked Ben out with the butt of his pistol. ("There's No Place Like Home, Part 1")

Members and numbers

The group is lead by Keamy. Omar appears to be his confidant and probably acts as second-in-command.
