- The Drug Smugglers' Plane was brought down by a discharge, or a previous system failure, from The Swan.
- Judging from the map found on the Beechcraft in "Deus Ex Machina" the plane may have been headed towards Inedbirenne Airport in Algeria (24 17' 31" N, 9 27' 08" E).
- May have been crashed on purpose by the other's as a way of preventing Locke from finding The Pearl station. They could have feared for its discovery when Boone and Locke stumbled upon the area, and pushed the unstable plane off its perch to cover the entrance.
- The Drug smugglers' plane crashed before Locke came to The Island. It's illogical that the others would hide something from someone who the yet don't know exist.
- If Mr. Eko's brother Yemi died while the plane was airborne, his spirit/ghost could have caused the crash in an effort to help Mr. Eko after having learned of future events. We can assume Yemi's spirit/ghost has some knowledge of the future. In the episode "?", Charlotte Malkin tells Eko what Yemi told her while she was between places, including 'seeing him soon'.
- The reason for Locke seeing the plane crash in the dream in the first place was the island's way of helping him find The Pearl, not the beechcraft. But it failed in its attempt, this is why it had to rely on the help of Eko to find it.
- The Island did not want Locke to find The Pearl when he discovered with the Beechcraft with Boone, so it made his legs useless thus preventing him from climbing the cliff and seeing the ?.
- Or it prevented him from dying. The island may have wanted Locke to find the Pearl, as stated above, even crashing the beechcraft over its exterior.
- It's interesting how the plane was able to crash a considerable time after it left Nigeria, and a considerable time after Eko landed on the Island. It's possible that time was somehow warped (not an uncommon theory in the show thus far). However, for the corpses to rot the way they did, the plane would had to have experience that missing time in its entirety.
- The plane did not crash after Eko arrived on the island. The scene in which it crashes is a hallucination brought on by (presumably) the island to guide Locke to the "?" hatch.
- They must have landed and refueled along the way to get to the supposed location of The Island. The Beechcraft 18 has a range of 850 miles/1400 kilometers and the distance from Nigeria to Fiji is 11,000 miles/18000 km.
- It would be more logical if the plane had crashed in The Indian Ocean or The Atlantic Ocean rather than The Pacific Ocean.
- The fact that Yemi's dead body is still aboard the plane makes it likely that the plane didn't make any stop overs before the crash.
- The three statements above imply that The Island is in fact not in the Pacific Ocean.
- Or the plane may have crashed on the island after being transported through one of the network of Bermuda triangle-like areas known as the Vile Vortices. Inside the plane was a map in which the word SAHARA was prominently featured. One of the Vortices is located over the Sahara. This could explain how/why the plane is seemingly so far from Nigeria without having stoped for fuel.
- The Drug Smugglers' Plane's destination was Australia, the plane was refueled in Saudi-Arabia, then in India, their last refuel was in Malaysia and on their flight over Indonesia the Drug Smugglers' Plane's navigation system was disturbed by the magnetic force of the island and it crashed the same way on the island like other vessels before, as the Black Rock, which also had navigation problems, or as the ballon of Henry Gale, or as the helicopter of Naomi, which crashed several miles near the island, so that Naomi had to parachute to reach the island, so the Drug Smuggler's Plane didn't crash for the same reason as Oceanic flight 815 did, the Oceanic flight 815 crashed on the island because there were an incident (system failure) after Desmond pushed the button in the Swan hatch too late
- When the plane took off from Nigeria, it flew to Tunisia, where it got sucked by a "wormhole" and got teleported to the Island (probably visiting a polar area before) similiar to the way Ben and, earlier, Dharma polar bear got teleported from the Island to Tunisia.
